November 19, 2016 at 7:28 pm in reply to: with Goff starting could things loosen up for Gurley? #59013sanbaggerParticipant
I don’t think it’s gonna loosen anything up tomorrow. I think Miami is gonna bring pressure at Goff the whole game, even if he beats it.
It’s gonna take several games, maybe not enough left in this year, to get D’s to realize they aren’t confusing him…then they’ll back off.
So…in the long run, yes…in the short term for the rest of this year, I don’t think so.
sanbaggerParticipantAre you kidding me? Still under the influence on the way to practice?
sanbaggerParticipantWell, basically a redshirt year for Spruce it seems.
sanbaggerParticipantBad news. I don’t trust Rhaney.
Can’t be worse than Barnes.
I am not a Barnes lover and have been calling for the Rams to draft a Center for 3 years now…that said, according to PFF Barnes had a solid game last week.
Not sure if it was just an anomaly or he was getting it together.
sanbaggerParticipantWell the defense is not a top defense without Quinn.
So, if he’s not healthy, then Goff is going to have to Elevate
the entire team.w
vOh…I’m not so sure about that. The most important cog to the D-line is now Donald, but having both Simms and Quinn down means we’ll see some of the young guys. Not a bad thing IMO…but they are better with Quinn.
I’m not a big believer in this QB elevates or even levitates the O. They drafted a QB not the great Goffdini.
After watching Goff this pre-season I don’t expect him to come in and put the team on his back and become Warner2…what I do hope he does is minimize his mistakes, throws a few balls away, and take a few shots. I’m hoping for >50% completion percentage, 200+ yds, and 1 turnover and I’ll consider that a good start.
sanbaggerParticipantGood read…thanks for posting
sanbaggerParticipantCan’t remember if I saw Bulgers first game or not and, maybe it’s a coincidence maybe not, Bulger was my least favorite of the group.
Never really felt the love for Bulger for some reason, but I never questioned his heart like I did Everett.
I did see Everett go after Jim Rome for calling him Chris 1 too many times.
November 18, 2016 at 3:09 pm in reply to: qb coach Chris Weinke: Goff's skill set is 'off the charts' #58885sanbaggerParticipantO found it very interesting that Weinke said it was the processing the info that kept him out…I was kind of thinking that because athletically it’s not even close between him and Keenum.
I don’t think he had to do too much work with the 5 step drops…I don’t recall CK taking very many 5 step drops from center, usually if he lined up behind Barnes it was either a handoff or a quick 3 step drop and pass. Throw an extra back in the backfield and it’s a handoff 100% of the time, at least I can’t recall 1 time they had 2 backs in the backfield and passed.
November 16, 2016 at 8:25 am in reply to: informal poll #2 … what do you expect of Goff this game? (Miami) #58544sanbaggerParticipantI’m thinking he has a pretty rough first half then settles down and starts to make some plays.
I’m thinking a line something like 17-30-189 with 1 TD and 1 INT
sanbaggerParticipantAs I recall every time we have seen Fisher make a qb change, he said just after the benched qb’s last game “we’re not changing qbs.”
Yeah, on the radio today a couple of guys were talking and said that Fisher said Keenum was the guy still on Monday, but on Tuesday morning, he sudden tells Keenum and Goff that it’s Goff, so Stan or Les must’ve got to him, or job pressure, or something.
Noooo.
Fisher says whatever he has to say to the press, and runs his business indoors. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn later that this date was targeted during the bye week. But you don’t say anything to Keenum, and you don’t say anything to Goff, and you certainly don’t say anything to the press until you’ve told both Keenum and Goff. That’s just basic. And you don’t tell Keenum and Goff until the beginning of the work week. Any other course would be foolish, imo.
Agree…Fisher was even kind of hinting around to that following the bye weeks by saying things like “It could be next week, it could be the week after” when before the bye he was saying things like “He’ll play when he’s ready”.
I also don’t buy in to the conspiracy theories. I think Fisher has too much clout to be bullied and pretty much the only guy that could try and bully him in to moves would be Stan K. and I don’t see him as that kind of an owner.
sanbaggerParticipantOK…looks like we’re gonna find out. Doesn’t matter to me anyway cause I’m more interested to see if he can help the team.
Don’t argue with me, you Tavon sniffer.
HAHA thanks for the laugh because I was just sittin here thinkin…The wife is givin me grief for talkin on the computer and the guy I’m talkin to is givin me grief for talkin to him on the computer.
Can’t make this stuff up
sanbaggerParticipantI have read this several places, and I don’t agree.
Well…I don’t agree with the concept either…but to disagree that it’s gonna happen is just a little naive.
I read too many threads daily that no matter what they do it’s wrong…so, I already see the blood in the water.
Doesn’t bother me one bit because I firmly believe Goff wasn’t ready to start the season and even if he has a bit of a rough go of it, it won’t convince me he’s a bust…hell I don’t think GRob;s a bust even if he doesn’t work out at LT and I haven’t written that off yet.
I am not saying it won’t happen (i.e. if Goff does well, people will complain that Fisher didn’t start him earlier). I am only saying that criticism will soon be dropped because people will get excited by the Rams winning, and will soon forget to blame the coach for the fact they had to wait.
OK…looks like we’re gonna find out. Doesn’t matter to me anyway cause I’m more interested to see if he can help the team.
I’ve been thinking the main reason for holding him back was time to get rid of the ball. For all of CK’s shortcomings getting rid of the ball quickly wasn’t one of them.
The O-line is credited this year for all of a sudden being able to pass block but not run block…a complete 180 from last year….I tend to believe that was all CK and the O-line pass blocking is, to quote the Talking Heads, the same as it always was.
That’s what I’ll be watching for and expect a couple of shots downfield but mostly short stuff, quick reads and throwaways galore. Just keep the turnovers to minimum Jared.

sanbaggerParticipantFisher can’t win here. If Goff sucks, fans will be jumping off the top of the stadium. If he’s great, they will want Fisher’s head for waiting so long to start him.
That’s a fact…it’s a lose-lose for Fisher.
I will say, it’s probably a good idea he is starting Goff because I think the fans in Cali would be brutal to CK from the first possession and they MTL will be a little more forgiving to Goff…for a while at least.
sanbaggerParticipantWell, yay.
Something had to give. I mean, whats the worst thing that could happen, the Rams dont score any touchdowns, and only manage a few field goals for 60 minutes??? God forbid we sink to a despairingly low level like that.
Well…he could throw 4 INT’s and have a couple of fumbles while holding on to it too long.
CK didn’t set the world on fire his last game but he did manage the game and kept away from the turnovers.
Hopefully he looks a lot different than he did in the pre-season.
sanbaggerParticipantI wish him the best. I would expect they will want to do a lot of tests before he’s cleared to do anything. When my son was around 12 years old he had a seizure. Scariest thing I ever saw. He only had that one. But, you want to talk about panic? I didn’t know anything about seizures, got on the phone with 911 and tried to breathe and calm myself until the ambulance got there. I know now about putting things in their mouths but at the time I didn’t. I put my finger in his mouth and he almost bit it off. They decided it was a type of childhood seizure problem that would probably go away. It seems that’s what happened.
But it was terrifying.
I hope Robert Quinn is okay. No football game is more important than his life.
In my business I do a lot of travelling and one of the guys I worked with suffered from seizures….had one on the plane once and had to make an emergency landing…anyway, he was grounded and not allowed to travel.
Then he made some behind the scenes arrangements and worked out a trip to Hawaii, had a seizure in his Hotel room while nobody was around, and passed away.
This is serious business and I really hope the guy gets any and all tests to ensure the constant head knocking is not causing him to have them.
sanbaggerParticipantI wonder if it is time for Pharaoh Cooper to take over return duties from Tavon Austin. I mean let Tavon be just a WR, while the kid learns as the return guy. What do you think?
I noticed Cooper replaced Austin for NY’s last punt…..
Tavon once again signaled fair catch inside the 10 yesterday…. I’ve had it with him.
Tavon Austin has been very disappointing, he’s no where close to Ron Brown, Henry Ellard, or Az on special teams… Frankly he sucks.
I forgot one… Tony Horne….
I was getting frustrated with TA fair catching at the 10 also…then I noticed a couple of other teams doing the same. I started thinking maybe that’s a new school way of thinking because the way the punters now can impart backspin to kill the ball.
I’m not sure if I’m on the right track or not but that’s what I’m mulling over right now.
Now I also saw him fair catch it at the 5…grrrr no excuse for that one IMO.
Still, I’m with X on this one I would rather have TA returning punts and Cooper learning his routes and helping from time to time rather than adding the extra duties.
I kinda think this Cooper love I’ve been reading about is like the love for the back-up QB…I don’t get it. I don’t think Cooper is as dynamic as TA and at the end of their careers TA is gonna have the better of it….and all that is just my opinion and I’m a known TA lover..so
sanbaggerParticipantYikes
In my mind the most important thing is to determine if the hits he’s taking from football is aggravating the existing condition.
I would want medical advice before he’s allowed to continue with his career.
sanbaggerParticipantIn some respects, this was a nightmare scenario for Rams. Case Keenum was not so bad as to encourage a quarterback change from the team, but nowhere near good enough that it would change opinions on him. Keenum played as safe a game as you’re likely to see from him, working largely on the short stuff with just three deep shots (20+ yards in the air). That was in part due to the Jets being blitz-heavy (18 of 35 dropbacks), and with just two sacks taken on those blitz packages, Keenum did a good enough job of making quick decisions and avoid costly turnovers.
The defensive line of Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson, and Leonard Williams were likely licking their lips at their matchup before this game, but they didn’t have the kind of impact or game-changing plays this team needed.
I think all of this is spot on.
That’s the league’s 4th best rushing defense and the Rams got 125 yards on them on the ground.
It wasn’t easy to do and it didn’t look pretty.
…
I also tend to think the blitz heavy defenses the good guys are facing, and CK’s ability to quickly recognize and get rid of the ball is what is keeping him in the game and Goff a spectator.
sanbaggerParticipantI have talked with a few SD guys and the feeling is they are gonna revisit the Mission Valley Stadium project.
Everybody knew they weren’t gonna get the 2/3 vote required for a downtown stadium but the number they were hoping for was 50%…they received 43% and that was a let down for sure.
I also have read that Spanos wants out of Mission Valley at all costs and they still owe 50 mil from past renovations.
My gut says it isn’t a done deal yet…they just might get something worked out to remain in MV if they can fix the flooding issue.
I’ve been to that stadium twice and I didn’t think it was a dump. I would rather go the games at MV then downtown just because of traffic. When they have a baseball game traffic is a nightmare I couldn’t imagine if the held a football game there.
sanbaggerParticipantNot sure why, I know we won, but it does not feel like it. Anyone else have that feeling.
Yep…I was happy with the win last night…feeling a little empty today.
sanbaggerParticipantSo that’s what passes as highlights for the Los Angeles Rams these days.
Here’s a few more:
Tavon catches a 5 yd out
Gurley doesn’t get hit in the backfield
Rams get positive yardage on screen pass
Robinson doesn’t hold on off tackle run
Did they actually run off tackle? Been so long since I’ve seen them run outside I need to look at that hi-lite so I can remember what that looks like.
Does a jet sweep count? Oh that’s right, we seemed to have lost that page of the playbook this year.
I missed the game, so I’m just goin off what I’ve read but I can say I’m glad they came away with a W but why do I feel as though it was another loss? Not much to be excited about after that hollow victory.
I saw a hi-lite on ESPN where they showed Fisher giving out game balls in the locker room after the game and I just looked at that and shook my head.
sanbaggerParticipantNothing is written in stone that he has to start in front of the home crowd…in fact, because I don’t think the ineffectiveness is all on CK, it might be good idea to start him away from the coliseum.
CK will continue to start as long as the Rams have a chance to grab a piece of that pie….did somebody say pie?
—————-
I guess he did enough to please Fisher. When Case doesnt throw pick6’s they tend to win.
w
vThat’s the key for CK…manage the game…watch some games by Phil Simms and just do enough not to hurt the team.
I like CK but the Rams just don’t have the firepower to overcome 4 picks from him…hey, at least he isn’t fumbling it to boot.
sanbaggerParticipantThanks for the stats man…I love looking at those.
Hekker with a 78 yard punt???? That guy is gold.

sanbaggerParticipantI missed the game, was in a golf tourny today, and the Jets are sanbaggerettes team soooooo….kinda glad they pulled off a W even if it was a field goal victory cause that…Whatever, I received from her was pretty sweet.
Gotta catch up on what happened but right now I’m wallowing in the W

sanbaggerParticipantI’m more interested in Thomas than I am Cooper. For some reason I think he ends up the better player.
Of course I like Spruce but that guy has just not been able to get healthy.
November 11, 2016 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Quarterback controversy in L.A. is nothing new for the Rams #57793sanbaggerParticipantCool story..thanks.
Man did that bring back some memories….Ferragamo and Haden. I was so tired of Haden then Ferragamo comes in and throws it downfield…ahh was that sweet. Then he goes to the CFL..grrrr.
I don’t think we are anywhere near a controversy…it’s just a matter when not if for when Goff takes over. Then, as always, it reverts back to if he will succeed and be what we hope. We all want a Tom Brady but will take a Phil Simms at this point.
sanbaggerParticipantAhh…playing against Fitz this week…I always liked that guy.
Thing is, Fitz is banged up pretty good but the word I’m hearing is he’s gonna play on that gimpy knee. I don’t think the Rams are gonna have to worry about him running too much.
The D-line is feeling it’s groove and Fitz may be in for a long day. Hopefully he called Cam to see what he did on Monday to recover after the bruising he took.
Rams 18 – 12
sanbaggerParticipantIt’s not like Air Coryell or any of the revisions like Martz’s.
Yeah it’s a multi-tinkered with variation but its roots are Coryell.
They also brought in Groh to tinker with the passing game and he gets his roots from Adam Gase who got his roots from Bill Walsh….definitely a variation of a West Coast offense.
I agree it is a multi-tinkered system. As it gets passed down the system changes.
I actually like the changes I’ve seen and have attributed them directly to Groh.
