I’ll leave this here for all you Pollyannas:

PA RamParticipantThat would be a good fit and opportunity for him.

PA RamParticipantMac, I love your optimism.
I hope you’re right.
Before Bradford went down I predicted 9 wins.
Now I think they can still win 9 games but I’m not as confident. I’m a little concerned about Hill being ready, about the injuries in the middle of the defense(although they are all expected to play(Langford, Brockers, Laurinaitis)and of course the situation at CB with Johnson out. I also think Joyner will take some time to get a feel for things.
In the first game, a team like Minnesota seems like a bad match-up. They have a good offense and if they’re smart they’ll run and throw quick passes which should control the Rams rush. On defense I’m sure their #1 priority will be the run. I’m hopeful the Rams will be able to run anyway but I have to believe that Zimmer will try to make Hill beat them. Either way–the Rams SHOULD score points but if they can’t force Cassel into playing catch-up and throwing more often it could be a long frustrating day.
But the X-factor is Greg Williams and what he does–especially if they can create turnovers. If that happens the Vikes will have the long day.

PA RamParticipantI am in a weekly pool where I have to pick each game(just winner/loser) and the game I just can’t pick is the Rams game. I’m too emotionally involved. I either underrate or overrate their chances. I try to be detached about it but I just can’t. I’m either over the top excited or I pick them apart–all their flaws. I can make them bigger than they are. Or..I can overlook others…think they’ll be okay.
I struggle making that pick every week. So I’ve at one time picked against them every week so that if they win at least I can feel good about the pool loss–or–just picked them every week and let the chips fall where they may–or go back and forth all season.
The worst team to have to evaluate is your own.

PA RamParticipantI see you share no such concerns.
Vikes: 20 Rams: 16
Don’t shoot the messenger. I hope I’m wrong.
I’m usually wrong–for the record.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantwv, I don’t get a good feeling about this game.
I hope I’m wrong but I see the Vikes being able to control the football, running, quick passes–not having to expose Cassell to the pass rush very much.
I’m not sure what the Rams will be able to do on offense. They SHOULD be able to score on this defense. But I can see some inconsistency with Hill having to get into the flow of things. They may get more FGs than T.D.s.
I am concerned.
Hopefully I’m wrong.

PA RamParticipantI don’t know much about him. Bill O’Brien is supposed to be one of these “QB gurus” and this is what he has to say about QBs:
O’Brien has been known for his work with quarterbacks, a hole the Texans seem to be in most desperate need of. As someone who some have called a QB guru, although O’Brien believes no coaches are experts or gurus, there are certain things he is looking for in the man who will run the offense of Reliant Stadium next year and for the years to come.
“Is he a winner. Is he a guy that is a leader on his team? Is he a good locker room guy? Is he going to be a great guy in the community? Is he a guy that’s going to study the game morning noon or night, be obsessed with the game. I think those are things that are very important for a quarterback.”I assume Keenum meets those qualities.
For me–I always valued awareness as the most important QB quality. Joe Montana never had a big arm but he knew where everyone was. If you have a good release and awareness you can go far in this league. A lot of “big armed” QBs were flops anyway. I’m looking at you Jeff George.
So I am going to remain cautiously optimistic on this move.
I guess this means they’ll pretty much be carrying the three QBs on the roster this year.
Austin Davis probably is a bit uncomfortable today. I would like to see Davis get some reps in a real game someday(hopefully not by injury but because the Rams have a huge lead)just to see how he handles it.
Hopefully we don’t have to see Keenum or Davis this year. Hopefully Hill plays well, stays healthy and leads the Rams to a winning record. Or even better–the playoffs.

PA RamParticipantLB Denicos Allen:
3 tackles in pre-season for the Panthers.
Got these little blurbs from a Panthers forum:

I never thought Denicos Allen had a shot at the team or the PS. Just did not look good throughout camp.iamhubby1
Hence why I was kinda hoping they would, you know, like create a position for him. Too small for LB, but good speed and smarts for Safety maybe.
I never truly thought he had a shot. But a guy can hope. Like you always hope the wife will turn out to be what you were hoping she would be. Not what her mother was. Hope…the only thing I have left that the wife lets me keep.

Allen played well in preseason but always late in the game so against third string.iamhubby1
So sad to see Allen go. Although I really never thought he had a realistic shot. Was hoping they would try to move him to safety to utilize his speed and smarts. Sniff sniff.Interesting. Some guys think he would make a better safety. I wonder if the Rams agree? For the record he’s 5’11” 225

2. I think NFL teams are seeing ghosts on Michael Sam, who, as of midnight Sunday, was still on the street looking for a practice squad to join. If a team plays a 3-4, as many do, he’s not a fit. But Sam is a 257-pound defensive end in a 4-3 system who has a chance to create a little havoc and a chance—a chance, I say, not a sure thing—to be a growth stock for teams. But I talked to three team architects over the weekend. They’re concerned about the circus coming to town with the first openly gay player trying to make an NFL roster. What circus, exactly? A little ESPN story about shower habits? That’s been the big controversy of the last four months with Sam. He’s had two press conferences, peaceful and uneventful ones, and met the press briefly after each of the St. Louis preseason games, as any player would be subject to doing. And that has created exactly zero problems for the Rams. Point is: If you scout Sam in the preseason and like what you see, don’t go looking for ghosts. Bring him in, subject your coach to six or eight questions about him, let Sam talk to the group, and then the big controversy will disappear. End of story.

PA RamParticipantThe conspiracy sided, cynical part of me wonders if Fisher didn’t take Sam more as a favor to the league than any real hope that he would make the team.
I suspect Sam played better than he ever imagined.
But when you sign a rookie FA for more money, you have to wonder if he wasn’t the guy they liked all along. Fisher is no dope. He knew the Rams probably had no room for Sam. But let him show his stuff, show he isn’t a distraction and maybe the kid gets a chance…and the league doesn’t have to answer a lot of uncomfortable questions of why the SEC Defensive player of the year can’t get on a team for even a tryout.
All along, the Rams were too crowded for Sam.
Yes–Westbrooks made it but, as I said, I think they liked him all along–and probably targeted him.
So the Rams, in a sense, did their part. Sam did his part.
But the rest of the league?
I checked some of the stats on some of the DEs signed to practice squads yesterday. Their stats don’t compare with Sam’s.
Some will still call it a “distraction” problem but that’s really up to the team as to whether it is a distraction or not. The one thing that none of these teams can say is that Michael Sam is not talented enough to play in the league.
I’ve read some boards of fans scratching their heads as to why their team HASN’T signed Michael Sam.
Look–it was great the Rams drafted him and gave him the chance to showcase his ability. I don’t know that if they hadn’t given him the chance anyone would have.
For all the analysts talk about Sam breaking barriers and things changing….I’m not sure the NFL is there yet.
There is no football reason why Michael Sam is not on SOME PS today.
I’m sure the Rams and Fisher believe they did their part and maybe they hoped that would be enough. And part of me holds out hope that he’ll still catch on with a team–somewhere. An injury this year? A desperate team? Some other players not working out? Who knows? I just don’t think he should be in a spot to wonder IF that chance will come. He earned it during the pre-season. And while I really do understand why the Rams do not sign him(it’s hard to argue they aren’t crowded at the position)I can’t see why a team like the Cowboys can’t use him.
I wish him the best.

PA RamParticipantThey must really love Barrett Jones. They must see something for a guy who has been injured and unable to get on the field or even be a serviceable back-up player.

August 31, 2014 at 8:42 am in reply to: So glad the team is set now and the season will begin in a week #5653PA RamParticipantIt’s early but I am regretting the Tre Mason pick a bit. At the time I wasn’t crazy about it but I knew that Stacy got dinged a bit last year and could use the relief. At the same time, with Cunningham and Watts, he has the relief. I didn’t know about Watts but at the time they also had Pead. Anyway, I would have liked to see more from Mason than we have. He averaged 2.9 yards a carry this preseason with poor pass protection. Hopefully he improves.

PA RamParticipantI don’t know how limited the PS will be because of the cap space so that may also work against Michael Sam, we’ll see. The fact of the matter is that for THIS Rams team, Sam is a luxury. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind having that luxury. I hope he can make it to the PS. But that is going into the decision making process. Some guys–a player like J.Cunningham perhaps could simply be placeholders for now–as the roster changes over the next few days. Fisher didn’t seem to want to do that to Sam. Cutting him now gives other teams a chance to grab him–teams he may have opportunities with that are greater than his opportunity in St. Louis.
If no one picks him up it doesn’t have anything to do with his football ability. That would be a shame.
And if that happens it will be equally interesting to see if the Rams DO put him on the PS. Maybe not.
But I will be surprised if no one grabs him.

PA RamParticipantHe would have to pass through waivers then, right? He looks like an NFL player but depth (inc. Westbrook) and lack of versatility hurt’m. He may choose to sign with someone else.
I would have to believe some team would claim Sam. Cowboys maybe.
From Sam’s point of view–he’d have a better opportunity to actually get on the field with another team. But if he clears I’m sure he’ll be on the PS.

PA RamParticipantThat’s it.
That’s all I got. But I do have a sore throat and this fatigue thing. That was all the effort I could put in this week.
Okay—Davis looked good but he still scares me. I just look at him as a hit or miss QB. Yeah–he looks much better but I can also see him being a turnover machine.
Or…maybe he’s the next Kurt Warner.
The Rams are vulnerable to screens. I think we’ll see a lot of that this year.
Mason was a wasted pick. With Stacy and Cunningham and Watts, I’m just not sure where he fits in to justify his third round selection.
The Rams will rue the day they let Sean Hooey go. It is a dark day in Rams nation for sure. Why are purple unicorns coaching the Dolphins?
Since when did Jeff Fisher get the ability to fly? Oh….wait–think I had a little too much cough syrup.
Anyway–back to Joyner. Yeah–he might get picked on.

PA RamParticipantThe sportsradio in Philly was lit up over the Sanchez thing for a couple of days. It ranged from anger from people who view Sanchez as untouchable, to ridiculous demands for his services. All the while I kept thinking about how far fetched it all was. I never thought the Rams were interested and listening to the negotiation that Philly fans were going through on the radio to obtain Sanchez was pretty amusing.
