Dumb penalties were the down fall of this team today.
That and a horrible special teams play with a blocked punt.
    Grits.

Don’t forget the fumble return at the 1 yard line that somehow Jake Long could not fall on.

I still can’t believe he could not just fall on the ball. He just sort of flopped aside of it and batted it back and forth.

That and Brockers effort on Foles scramble made me think their heads all weren’t ion the game. Those DTs sucked this game.

Fisher said next time Rams player gets a stupid penaltym such as Ray Ray Armstrong’s unnecessary roughness call, he’s sending them off field

Absolutely. There is NO reason for this kind of knuckleheaded crap. It’s time to make them pay for stupidity.

Yes–E.J. Gaines. That kid is fantastic. I’m sorry but he has, IMO, earned a starting corner spot.

I do. Believe it or not.

I see a good, unestablished team making incredible strings of errors.

We just look at this a little differently. I see a team with talent.

But good teams don’t make the same sort of mistakes over and over. Good teams win these games.

Talent is meaningless if the team isn’t using it the right way or it doesn’t show up when needed the most.

    To me–that’s a bad team–not an untalented team–but a bad team.

Here’s the worst part—he can’t even get there with blitzes.

    4 games–0 sacks.

    His blitzes don’t even work.

Something is very very wrong here. Today Quinn pretty much got handled by one guy–when I watched him anyway. William Hayes seemed more concerned with McCoy getting the edge than rushing the passer but I didn’t watch him that much.

The two DTs were awful–they aren’t credited with ONE tackle on NFL.Com. Not one.

I don’t know what it is–scheme, effort(Langford had an obvious whiff on a tackle attempt)or some combination of both but Fisher is no closer to fixing the problems this week than he was the game before the bye.

I had to pick up my wife during the last four minutes–missed the end.

But I am not feeling great about the game. Yeah–okay–they came back–to lose again. I’m sure Philly was playing a little soft too and that allowed the Rams to do somethings. Great. But that doesn’t erase the awful performance on special teams, the miserable offensive line performance, the bewildering inability of the defense to bring down a quarterback, or the penalties galore.

I just don’t care about close losses. They aren’t wins. They don’t mean much to me.

    My bright spots?

Austin Davis. Yeah–he had some shaky moments but he also made some good plays.

You know what? That might be it for this game. They really disappointed in every other aspect of the game.

The secondary had screw ups–the DTs were non-existent and for awhile Philly ran through the middle as they pleased. The DEs can’t figure out how to tackle a QB when they do get their hands on him. Stacy had a turnover.

    I don’t see a good football team.

The best I see for this year is inconsistent performances. They’ll lose some blowouts, lose some close ones, win some close ones.

Maybe they’ll get 5 or 6 wins tops.

I don’t know where they go from here. How do they get better? How do they become an elite team?

I have no answers. And I’m not sure that Fisher does either.

My biggest fear is Sproles on the screen.

They’d better look for that and be ready to stop it. I heard that the 9ers actually had a spy on Sproles looking for that.

Either way–you don’t want to see that guy get the screen pass.

This has a lot to do with the linebackers IMO.

Either they get caught out of position or can’t get off a block or miss tackles.

If the Rams clean that up things will change.

Not only do I expect the Rams to win…I backed it up by wearing my Rams t-shirt to work on Friday and smack talking the Eagles fans.

Oh, I said some things I’d live to regret come Monday–IF the Rams should lose.

But of course, that won’t happen.

I made sure that everyone knew how I felt about the game by going out of my way to casually “bump” into those I didn’t see right away.

“Oh…hi, Phil. Didn’t see you there. Did you know that the Rams are kicking the Eagles ASS this weekend? Did you know that? Oh–you weren’t aware of that? Well–write it down. And write down who said it so you remember on Monday. They are kicking their ass in THEIR house. And…uh, have a nice day.”

So it will not be pretty for me if the Eagles win on Sunday.

Hopefully my rant was fueled by cool analysis of the situation and not raw emotion.

I am pretty pumped up for the game.

    GO RAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully the Rams offense controls the ball and slows down the game. Kelly won’t be able to help himself. He likes fast break football. He won’t have patience for a slow game. Still, there is pressure locally for Kelly to run the ball more. But the Eagles are 2nd in the NFL in pass attempts, 21st in rushing attempts. Kelly WANTS to throw the ball.

Of course–looking at the Rams 30th ranked rush defense is as good an incentive as any–especially if he believes the big play run is there–which it has been with the Rams this year. But if the Rams stuff McCoy early I don’t see Chip having the patience to stay with it. He wants points–fast. He wants to wear down your team–fast pace.

We’ll see if the Rams are up to the challenge.

I think the Rams find a way this week.

I had the Chiefs pick in my weekly pool at work and that would have given me enough to win the weekly pool but it was a tie and came down to total points selected for the game. My co-worker had 48 points. I had 46.

This is why I hate the Pats. They ruin everything. Not only do they give up 41 points on their own. They score 14 garbage points.

I hope they lose every game 41-14 now. By the way—if you reverse the 1 and 4 in the Pats score(14) you get the 4 and 1 or (41) that the Chiefs scored.

Can any of you math majors tell me what that’s called? Surely there has to be some name for that, right? It’s not a palindrome because that would have to be 414 to 414. I have been up all night worried about this. Is there a name for this sort of thing or are we in some strange new world now? Can I name it a “PA Ram” sequence and have I discovered the link to the “Unified Theory of Everything”?

Or is it just a thing and I should try to lay off the caffeine before bed?

In any case the Pats are losers and that’s always a good thing.

I think the Rams have a great chance of winning next week—IF Greg Williams isn’t completely outsmarted by Chip Kelly(a thought that scares me).

The Eagles are very beatable–even at home.

And coming off a bye week with extra preparation time–no excuse. The Rams have to win that game.

The Saints have a terrible defense. For anyone who has ever accused the Rams of tackling poorly(I raise my own hand)just watch the Saints. It looks like they’re playing tag and the offensive player is IT and they’re trying to get out of the way. Just awful.

They’re offense wasn’t too great either. The mighty Saints have fallen.

Having said that–Murray is the best running back in the game right now. He’s elusive, fast and strong.

    Some thoughts on the games:

Bridgewater is going to be a very good quarterback–IF he can stay healthy. He looks just a bit fragile out there.

I don’t know if Harbaugh has lost the 9ers but that team looks dysfunctional to me.

The Falcons have an abysmal defense. And their roster may soon look like a M.A.S.H. unit casualty list. The tight end was playing right tackle. Seriously.

How the hell does Tampa Bay beat Pittsburgh? How?

Buffalo and offense–two things that do not go together.

    J.J. Watt–okay–he’s pretty great.

Panthers sure coulda used Steve Smith.

Who had the Bengals and Cardinals as the last two undefeated teams? Raise your hands. Uh-huh–thought so.

And despite that success–the 49ers still managed to look bad.

Delay of game penalties, Kaepernik looks slow and indecisive in the pocket. I wasn’t impressed with either team.

    The Rams can beat Philly.

They can, they will, they must.

I am taking the dog for a walk today—it’s overdue–I’ve been lazy—she was promised for several days and then had those promises broken. She has been giving me the silent treatment–and pooping in my shoes. I SHOULD get to the gym but let’s be honest–not happening today.

So…it’ll be a RedZone channel day. I have no interest in any particular game. I’ll let them decide what I watch.

Of course tonight at 10 PM it’s “The Strain” no matter what game is on. That show is gruesome, creepy, chilling, sometimes tough to watch…much like a Rams game.

However…I have solved this little riddle and the answer my friends…is that as of this very moment there have been 11 different posters responding to this thread.

    You see,

We can not count ZN’s original post as it is not a “response”. Very tricky of him. He does, however, respond to his own thread later.

    So…

    Posters responding in the thread:

    NE Ram

    Ram Rock

Since Zooey did not include me in his answer because I had not responded yet–I win and would like my pumpkin pie with some soft serve ice cream from Dairy Queen. I will be showing up wherever it is served looking very much like Mr. Monopoly as I’ll be wearing a monocle and top hat for full effect.

Stacy should get the lions share of the snaps. At least 60% plus. I really like Bennie and Watts, but Stacy is our beast in both running plays and he is a runaway truck on screens.

I would like to see this happen.

I understand that they don’t want to wear him down–but he’s the best running back on this team–he’s solid. 12 touches is just too few IMO. Give him the rock. He beats up defenses.

So I’m at work tonight and football comes up and this Dallas fan starts complaining about Brian Quick pushing off on his T.D. and not getting called for it. Really?

Of course I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

3-15 vs. 9-118. I kept saying that–and then talked about Langford’s tackle and it just got to be a useless shouting match.

Dallas Cowboys are entitled to every penalty call that goes there way and if anything is missed it’s a travesty.

But this is the problem. No one hears any sort of legitimate complaint over the noise. The propaganda of the league is that everyone gets good and bad calls and somewhere it evens out and of course never…NEVER really decides the outcome of a game. It took a lot of guts for Fisher to say anything because I’m sure that drops him down to the whiny crybaby class now. But I’m glad he did.

Despite the mistakes made by the Rams, I truly believe they win if that game is officiated fairly. Heck–I’ll give them the Jenkins trip if we can get the Langford hold.

But I’ve beaten this drum since Sunday and I’m moving on. It just boils my blood.

I get the whole “you have to play perfect football and you won’t have to worry about the penalties” argument–but that seems dismissive of the officials true responsibility and the integrity of the game itself. If one team plays with a different set of rules or standards that they are held to–it isn’t a legitimate contest, and yes–fans will notice.

I haven’t heard a lot about this by the national media because there is always shouting about poor officiating and the noise drowns out any legitimate complaints. The media tends to roll their eyes and say, “Sure–EVERYBODY complains. It’s just part of the game–you win some you lose some–happens to everyone.”

That does not help the game of football.

    Shine a light on it.

    Make it important.

    “Bad Boys” or not–.call a foul when it’s a foul–period–for both teams.

Essentially what happens is that the refs watch one team close and just sort of glance at the other one from time to time.

You miss 2 play clocks? 2? What are you watching?

You miss a guy being tackled on his way to the quarterback?

    What are you watching?

You are a quick draw on a roughing call that isn’t even debatable?

You’re watching one team too much–and missing everything else.

And yes–they should be called out for it.

I was thrilled Fisher did that and thank you Jim Thomas for asking the questions.

You won’t see it on ESPN. They’re too busy kissing Manning’s behind–or setting up their next game which they can claim now has the Dallas team with a winning record. Don’t tarnish that.

    It’s bullshit.

The league has a lot of problems to clean up. Poor officiating is one of them.

I like that Fisher called out the officials. He did not sugarcoat it. I honestly believe that if the game had been officiated fairly or competently, depending on your view, the Rams–despite the mistakes–would have won the game.
