PA RamParticipant
So he’s appealing to the pro wrestling fans?
I can see that. It’s a natural constituency for him. I know some wrestling fans and they acknowledge it’s fake–but they still watch–they still enjoy the “soap opera” of it all.
They still buy the special events to watch.
I can see some of that with Trump supporters. They don’t dig very deep on why they like him or what he will accomplish or actually how he will accomplish it.
Mexico will build the wall? Okay–good enough.
They LIKE him–they like his colorful personality–his willingness to act like a jerk to the other candidates–to not play the establishment game.
They don’t care about details. The voters he’s attracting don’t care about long policy speeches or charts or anything like that. They’re angry people who want to lash out at something–who will support someone who speaks for THEM–who screams at these other politicians or who may express somewhat openly, any racist feelings they have.
It’s a “feel good” vote for them.
Don’t bother them with details or the consequences of putting such a man in office.
It is fueled by emotion.
Trying to figure out something like that, to label it or to find some sort of logic behind it will inevitably fail. Emotion is distant from logic.
The establishment can’t figure out Bernie or Trump.
But more than anything else both candidates give certain segments of the population a voice–and that’s very appealing. Most of the time the establishment doesn’t listen to those voices(in the case of Trump–I find that a good thing) but there are real people behind the voices who have been screaming into the woods for years.
The establishment didn’t hear them.
Now they do.

PA RamParticipantTwo of the biggest egomaniacs ever to run for the Presidency.
I know that these candidates do it for themselves more than anyone–but does anyone believe that there has ever been bigger “Me! Me! Me! Look how great I am!” candidates in the history of this country?
It’s not about the country or a belief–they’ll toss that away with the wind if they get to have the title: President of the United States.
Their only core belief is in “Trump” and “Hillary” and that’s where it ends.
After that everything is open for negotiation.

PA RamParticipantFisher has the built-in excuse this year with the move so this year probably wasn’t going to be used to evaluate him anyway. They extend and evaluate over that time. As long as no other “excuses” pop up–he’ll have to do well.

PA RamParticipantI want to see The Revenant.
I haven’t seen many DiCaprio movies. But the only thing I saw that I thought he was really good in was Gilbert Grape. I didn’t see The Aviator or Blood Whatever. I heard he was good in those.
But. I think I have, on average, one student a year who is as good or better. And none of them are rich enough to drive a Prius like he does.
I thought his best performance was probably “Gangs of New York”. He was also pretty good in “The Departed”. I think he’s a pretty good actor. He’s no Danial Day-Lewis but who is?

PA RamParticipantJoe Namath, Bert Jones, Dan Pastorini…Peyton Manning.
I see him–at best–a mentor for Mannion. If that’s the plan it’s going to cost too much for a mentor.
Manning probably sees a great defense–thinks he can repeat the Denver thing and get a lot of money.
The Rams may see the same thing.
I’m not so sure.

PA RamParticipantI know that critics loved it–audiences loved it–but I just never got it.
I liked it, a lot, myself.
Oh there’s no doubt that a lot of people loved the movie. I’m just sorry you had to be wrong about it too. Just kidding. 🙂

PA RamParticipantYeah, Nittany. It’s a scary thought.
I mean–even looking at the big picture and looking at ourselves as a sort of biological machine that has somehow developed this thing called consciousness–as a whole, it seems that people look after whatever their selfish interests are first and foremost(certainly not everyone). Is this a product of consciousness in general? This thing called greed, or emotions like hate and anger–especially in regard to “the other”–is that just something that goes along with the package?
If another civilization were to spring up in a distant galaxy and developed a consciousness—would that civilization be limited to the same flaws? If a machine developed it, would the machine be subject to the same thing? Consciousness is incredibly complex and not understood particularly well–and maybe it never will be.
But when it develops in a particular vessel(and of course I mean at a high level)would these negative traits always develop as well?
I get the theory of Dawkins’, “The Selfish Gene” but in another life form or in a machine that didn’t share this DNA—what would happen?
I’m rambling but anyway–yeah–it was a good film.
And what you said is a chilling thought.

PA RamParticipantI’m late–but I have a perfectly good excuse for that. I was abducted by aliens and they had no internet. Okay–it’s a crazy story, I know. Of course aliens would have the internet. But they did have wi-fi problems so….
Anyway–HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY,ZN!!!!!
Here–for no apparent reason–is Merv Griffen singing, “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts”.

PA RamParticipantYeah the whole thing is keeping blockers off of him. If that happens I think he’ll be fine.
If not–they have problems.
They obviously love Barron so someone had to move.

PA RamParticipantThe whole conspiracy stuff is just silly tinfoil hat stuff. His own son has said there’s nothing to it–this was natural. Of course that won’t matter to the tinfoil hat crowd.
But why on earth would the left have killed him in an election year?
They had to know the Republicans would never approve anyone and it would provide them with a political tool to scare their already frightened base to getting to the polls. Ted Cruz is all over this.
Still—conspiracy prophets will make some money from this.

PA RamParticipantI really think this may have been one of my least favorite Coen films.
I found it long and dull. I think I laughed a couple of times(the film editor scene and the dancing sailors). The scenes with Clooney just never took off for me. The characters had no real connections to each other. Nothing felt like one plot thread. It felt more like different “skits” and it didn’t work for me. The twin gossip reporters–felt like an inside joke I just didn’t get. In fact, much of it felt like inside jokes.
The acting was fine but the story itself and the lagging direction just fell apart for me.

February 3, 2016 at 2:27 pm in reply to: Rams & qbs in free agency (from RG3 to possibly Fitzpatrick) #38556PA RamParticipantI don’t see Peyton having any interest in this.
From the Rams standpoint–it only really makes sense as a mentor for Mannion. How much do you pay for a mentor?
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantYeah–in what is the silliest thing in the world–they have a “Pro Bowl Draft”. This year–they are both on different teams. So Donald in fact may have to tackle him.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI agree. Just give them the honor and a trip to Hawaii. Skip the game. No one really cares about it anyway.

PA RamParticipantIt just seems like a complicated set-up. Should we also bring in a 2nd down specialist? A first down specialist? A 4th down specialist?
Is this what the NFL has become?
Remember the days when you had one OC and he was in charge of everything?
Just seems weird to me–with a lot of moving parts to get jammed up.
I hope it works.

PA RamParticipantI will be score watching more than anything else.
I have 1 for the Panthers in the work pool and 0 for Denver. So if it ends up 21-10 I win 350 bucks.
Come on 21-10 Panthers!!!!

January 25, 2016 at 7:19 am in reply to: Rams source: “Likely” Rob Boras becomes permanent offensive coordinator #38022PA RamParticipantIt really feels like Fisher’s only choice is “in-house” hirings for this position.
Did they talk to Shurmer? Did he turn them down? It feels like the last time when they went with Cignetti. I mean–if he really loved Boras why not just come out from the start and say: “We have out guy–we’re happy with Rob.” Why a drawn out search with names being tossed about only to go back to square one anyway?
I just think either these guys don’t want to be under Fisher’s thumb or they don’t like the way he handles assistants(they take the fall)or they don’t like the situation but for whatever reason–he doesn’t seem able to bring a guy in.
So just embrace the guy you have and know are going to be stuck with and move on.
It’s probably better for his confidence.

PA RamParticipantThis city is buried.
No plow on my street. People dug out their cars but are going nowhere. Really no where to go with the snow. And to top things off I got my car uncovered–smartly parking where I knew they’d plow. Only it won’t start. Ugh.
Now my cell phone has taken a crap to boot. Add that to the kidney stone incident I had last week, the bronchitis since December–and it’s shaping up to be a GREAT year.
Fortunately I’m a Rams fan. I’m used to crushing disappointment.

PA RamParticipantWell–it’s here–and they weren’t lying.
Let the dog out today and she bravely(with a tap on the butt)went out into the snow and promptly turned around and looked at me and said with her dog face: “Are you fucking nuts?”
And came back inside.
I must shovel her a path.

PA RamParticipantIf I don’t lose power I’ll watch it. Doesn’t Steven Jackson still play for New England? They didn’t cut him, did they?
But Carolina/Arizona is the game I’m more interested in watching.

PA RamParticipantSNOWPOCALYPSE!!!!!
They keep upping our totals. We currently are anywhere from a foot to 2 feet. I drove home tonight from work and it was sticking pretty good.
Apparently the NAM model is giving us over 3 feet. The local guy said they were “Nervously ignoring that one”. The damn NAM!
I’m hoping to wake up to find this thing fizzled out.

PA RamParticipantFrankly, I’m concerned because I understand that Nittany uses a private server in his basement for emails and if the “Top Secret” Huddle posts I’ve made over the years(of course I’m speaking to the ones specifically that talk about me needing to be loved by my cats) ever gets out…well…let’s just say there are some other Rams boards that would LOVE to have that little piece of information.

PA RamParticipantI offer my sincere condolences, Ozone.
It’s a horrible disease and I feel for anyone who has been touched by it.
I also feel for anyone taken in my these quack cures. People are in a vulnerable state and reaching out for anything and these con artists take advantage of that. There are some truly miserable human beings out there.

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantMaybe when you can get to the level of cellular repair with some sort of nanotechnology–maybe then you can talk about a “cure” but we seem far away from any of that. If we ever get there.
The book, “The Emperor of all Maladies” goes in to great detail on the history of cancer and where it has gone. And yes–if you live long enough–you will likely get cancer. It will happen. You may have a fantastic heart–great lungs–a lot of other positives—but cancer will get you if you outlive all that other stuff.
It’s very very complex and like the article says–not one thing.
I admire the effort and certainly more money for research is not a bad thing–connecting researchers together is a very good thing. But this will not be solved in any of our lifetimes–if ever. Still–it can get better. And there is nothing wrong with that.

PA RamParticipantI guess this is the LA radio station
where we can listen to ram stuff.
(i hate the fact it has Jim Rome in the heading.
Gawd, is that piece-of-shit still on the air)Are there others?
w
vI can’t stand Jim Rome–at all. I don’t get his popularity. He’s like a “Bros” host. He’s annoying. I used to get ESPN radio locally but then they switched to CBS radio and they broadcast Rome. A complete waste of airspace. And he THINKS he’s the best there is. I don’t understand why people listen to him–what they hear that they like.
Speaking of CBS radio and the waste that it is–another guy I throw in there with Rome is Scott Farrell. He may be harder to listen to than Rome.
