PA RamParticipant
First, I’d tell politicians and their shills, you work for us. You don’t get to say you invited the Press in. The American people are temporarily renting OUR house to you. It’s not yours. And here, in our studios, you can’t even say you have a temporary lease. We invited you here, and if you won’t answer our questions, you won’t ever, ever be back. We don’t need you. But you need us. We could find tens of thousands of people who’d love to fill your spot, most of whom wouldn’t lie to everyone, gaslight the country, and do this endlessly without shame.
Yes but the press today is all about ratings. Trump and his thugs get ratings. No one cares about some policy wonk who will try to explain why block grants for medicaid are a terrible idea. America doesn’t care. Keep it simple–put it in a meme and say how great America will be. Otherwise–they can watch “Pawn Stars” or some such thing. Ratings “Trump” all. So t some point the press may have to lick their boots.
Trump knows this. They are going to do things HIS way. The press will have to come along in time. There’s always a Fox News ready. NBC not interested? Yawn. Head over to Fox. People will watch.
The press will not set any rules in the long run. Trump is patient. He’ll wait.
He knows we’re in an Idiocracy. He gets it. And he’s the king.

PA RamParticipantTrump supporters no longer care that he did not “drain the swamp”. They accept the swamp now. They will say that he sort of had to say that during the campaign but in reality he kind of had to pick these people. It’s okay. They understand.
Trump filling the swamp? Okay, it’s fine.
Obama? Horrible. How can he do this?
These people twist their thinking to support their preconceived notions. Reality literally means nothing anymore. They create their own reality and when they get backed into a corner then you’re beating on Trump without giving him a chance. That’s not fair. Obama had a chance. Everyone gave him a chance. Women did not fill the streets. They will ignore you if you keep talking about Trump and they have no answer.
Trump is THEIR guy. They know that THEY are responsible. To question Trump is to question THEM. It’s personal. They will not accept that. They can’t accept that.
I know all this from Facebook interactions.
I see how it is. I see how it is going to be.
Even IF they have buyer’s remorse at any point in the next four years they will either just ignore you and keep quiet about “politics” because they hate “politics” on their Facebook or in their face or whatever—OR they will keep getting defensive. They will flip everything in the other direction and blame someone else.
THIS is the reality of America today. Rush Limbaugh and Fox News will comfort them.
They don’t need YOUR truth. They have their own.
And you’re just being an annoying asshole.

PA RamParticipantIs this the worst post-season ever?
The majority of these games have been uncontested.
Yes. The only game I enjoyed was the Packers/Cowboys.
I don’t know what happened to the Steelers offense in the playoffs but it never showed up.
Even the Pats won a sloppily played game against the quarterback starved Texans.
Horrible football.
I’m waiting for the Falcons to collapse in the Superbowl now.

PA RamParticipantPost-Truth America.
People will create their own reality.
This may be the most dangerous thing of all about these times.
Truth doesn’t really matter anymore. Team matters.
This was started years ago with Limbaugh and Fox News and Ann Coulter and others. Now it’s in the Oval Office. People will believe the “truth” that suits them.
R.I.P. Truth.
P.S. Yes there have always been lies and propaganda. But it has never been to this bold level about something so insignificant and easily checked. There is no point to the press even showing up for Spicer’s briefings.

PA RamParticipantAbout 2018? I am not sanguine in the slightest. Actually, I think the GOP is likely to pick up seats in Congress, primarily due to the huge number of Dems defending in “red states” and the continued effects of gerrymandering the House.
Demographics favor the Dems. Systemic structures favor the Republicans. I think the latter win for now.
Unless the Democrats are able to correct the gerrymandering that the Republicans have built into the system to hold their majorities–I don’t see how 2018 hurts them.
This is going to be a disastrous 4 years. No one is going to save us.
We have to hope for the best and hope that someone can clean it up in 2020.

PA RamParticipantOnly ONE?
That’s one hell of a choice.
The question becomes: which one of these dolts will do the most damage?
There is also short term and long term damage.
I’m a big fan of the environment. And I’d like to see the EPA stick around. I think that could be a big fight with a lot of opposition, however. I’m hopeful that this clown’s damage can be minimized and hopefully the damage reversed.
Betsy Devos wants to bring back child labor and pretty much end public education. This. “dumbing down” of the public is all part of a greater plan as the powerful seek more and more control. That sort of terrifies me.
I have no clue what the heck sort of damage Jeff Sessions can do but it’s a case where I HOPE the laws in place prevent some of the worst things he can do. There will be a lot of damage with some of the things he doesn’t do, as well.
I’m hearing Puzder may be having second thoughts about taking the position but whoever replaced him would be equally horrible. This guy will have the power to appoint the heads of labor boards. Unions will be in big trouble. All workers will, really.
But I may have to agree with Tillerson. I would have felt much better with Romney–but Trump was just making a fool out of him. The next four years can completely change our relationship with other world powers and who knows what kind of trouble Trump will get into and will need a smart, qualified person as Secretary of State to bail him out.
It’s a disaster of epic proportions.
I can’t imagine what’s ahead. I don’t want to.

PA RamParticipantHe’s no London Fletcher. But I thought he was pretty good–picking up a lot of extra responsibility this year. The guy is an amazing athlete. Wade will get the most out of him.

PA RamParticipantMcVay and McDaniels are both of Scottish origin and Shanahan means Irish baby boy. I’m not worried about his age, sure he’ll have growing pains but his body of work is impressive. And I’m prepared for any ensuing board war with Claymore and a light axe.
In any case–big culture change.

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantNo–I don’t think he’s too old.
But I am a little surprised they didn’t try to wait to at least interview Shanahan. Maybe they had the impression that Shanahan was locked into the 49ers one way or the other–and maybe McDanials had that same impression and that’s why he backed out.
Any way you go–they would have hired an Irishman.

PA RamParticipantI’m going with the Steelers/Falcons.
#1) I hate the Patriots.
#2) I hate the Patriots
#3) I hate the Patriots
Other reasons are that the Pats didn’t look great against the Texans. Leveon Bell is incredible. Antonio Brown is incredible. Big Ben looked healthy enough.
As for the Falcons–they just look like the best team playing right now. Period.

PA RamParticipantI was hoping the 9ers wouldn’t hire Shanahan. But it’s pretty much set in stone now.

January 16, 2017 at 12:15 pm in reply to: McVay helped Desean Jackson and Pierre Garçon more than Cousins #63689PA RamParticipantBefore McVay became OC of the Redskins, they were 9th in dropped passes. His first year as OC they went to 26th in dropped passes. The 2nd year they went to 30th. They improved each year.
The Rams were worse in 2016(8th) than they were in 2015(17th). I’m hopeful he can really improve the receivers. That would be a great thing and really help Goff.
Still, I think the o-line is priority #1.

PA RamParticipantSteelers should be up a lot more than they are in this game. They look like the better team. but if they let the Chiefs hang around, it’s the kind of game they can blow in the 4th.
Bell already has 100 yards rushing. It’s really kind of interesting how he runs. They described it like playing the game “Frogger”. He patiently works his way up to the next level.
It sure works for him.

PA RamParticipant6 playoff games so far. 6 blowouts. Not good for the NFL.
One thing I see is that the Rams aren’t alone in having receivers who can’t seem to catch the ball. Other teams have this affliction as well.
Atlanta was very impressive. Their running game is fantastic. Freeman and Coleman are very good. Freeman does not go down with fingertip tackles(I’M LOOKING AT YOU TODD GURLEY!)and Coleman carried tacklers on his back. I wish the Rams had taken Jake Matthews instead of Robinson.
The Texans have to be sick that they gave Osweiler all that money. He’s young. He may improve. But…he may not.
Why is Julian Edleman allowed to push off with no flags? Oh–that’s right–he plays for the Patriots. I swear if a Rams receiver had sneezed at the defensive back he would have seen five flags.
I think Shanahan just won the 49ers job.
The bottom line so far?
Offense rules.

PA RamParticipantOkay, but if it’s getting bigger–and there’s nothing for it to expand INTO—HOW does it get bigger?
Space is an effect of the big bang. Space expands. It banged into existence out of nothing. So all that happens is that more space expands and the nothing is irrelevant.
To think it is “inside” something is a spatial way of looking at it. But you can’t do that since space–meaning, precisely, the 3 dimensions of existence–is itself a result of the big bang.
So the problem is conceptual.
To think of space as being inside something is to think of space as expanding…inside another space.
But there IS NO “other space.” The only space we get is the space created when the universe is created.
And there is only being INSIDE of the space of the universe. There’s no outside, just nothing.
It’s all a bit too “zen” for me to wrap my mind around. It’s just one of those things I’ll never really get. I accept the weirdness of it all. I certainly accept the science of it. But I’ll never have a comfortable understanding of it. My mental ability just isn’t expanding enough, and that’s too bad because I have plenty of space in my cranium.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantThe most important thing is for McVay to hire someone he trusts–someone who gets HIS offense and can be another set of eyes on the field and give him good feedback. My guess is it’s someone he either has had some association with in the past or someone he truly beleives fills that particular role. He doesn’t need any sort of established guy with his own system or even someone who has been an OC in the past. It’s more about a particular type of working chemistry that’s important here, IMO.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantIn that last vid — i liked this question — ‘the Universe is expanding into what?’
w
vIt doesn’t have to be expanding INTO something.
According to big bang theory, space and time are themselves effects of the bang. So an expanding universe just means space gets bigger, as opposed to there being absolutely nothing.
Okay, but if it’s getting bigger–and there’s nothing for it to expand INTO—HOW does it get bigger? If I put a balloon in a small box and pump air into it, it can only get so big before it bursts. If it’s not in the box–it can get bigger just fine because there is space to grow.
But if there is space in some sense or another to grow–then WHAT is that space?

PA RamParticipantI love it.
This makes me feel better about McVay’s youth. I am surprised he didn’t go to coach with his son but–hey–good for us.
I agree that the OC isn’t that concerning considering that McVay is an offensive guy. The DC was much more important. And that’s solved.

PA RamParticipantSo if you want to check out the fancy new stadium but the Rams stink, now you can go see a Chargers game instead.
I don’t see how two teams in a market is good for either team.
Yes–the Jets and Giants have made it. But that’s a more football friendly area.
If these two teams are struggling for fans 10 years from now I would not be shocked to see moving vans back up again. On the other hand–if the teams make money in spite of that, it won’t matter, I guess.
