I dunno. I wouldn’t have gambled. We can’t know if we hadn’t taken Mannion that someone else wouldn’t have.
We know others didn’t take Petty or Hundley, but we don’t know about others interest in Mannion.
And Mannion is a dang good QB.

May 1, 2015 at 12:57 am in reply to: Reportedly Titans turned down big trade offer for #2 pick #23515MackeyserModeratorThey’re crazy. No way Mariota was worth all that…
Eagles crazy for offering, Titans crazy for saying no. Maybe they didn’t want to take advantage of someone drunk…

MackeyserModeratorRams would be thrilled if it played out this way and the Giants went Parker. I seriously doubt it happens that way, though…

MackeyserModeratorcooper is one of those he’s most likely out of our reach, but if he gets to #8, do you consider trading up for him?
Absolutely, no doubt. He’s that good.

MackeyserModeratorVery dicey with Gregory and Ray free falling.
There could be a run on OL and Scherff, Peat, Flowers could all be gone before 14 and there’s no guarantee that La’el Collins will be cleared of wrongdoing by Thursday so what team would draft him only to find out he may be the next Hernandez?
I dunno, I like the idea of 2 2nds to get OG and QB or ILB, but being at 14 scares me because we could miss on the OT we need.

April 30, 2015 at 12:47 am in reply to: your relation to this season is…? same as usual? losing interest? etc? #23382MackeyserModeratorI’m very optimistic. We’ve been saying “this team is built to win in 2015” for awhile and now it’s here.
I really don’t care if they play in outer space.
Home is where the heart is and my football heart is with the Rams.
If we take care of our OL, and there are several paths to doing that, then we should not only make the playoffs, but be that team in the playoffs that no one wants to face.
Am I excited? Hell yeah!

MackeyserModeratorActually, I just tested it out, and I think maybe iOS 8.3 may have fixed the issue.
I just tabbed out and checked another site and tabbed back in and I didn’t get kicked to the login screen like before.
Which is very cool. Cuz I really am on my iPhone 6+ most of the time. Yay!

MackeyserModeratorNope. When I use the phone entrance, I have to come in naked as the day I was born (by the way, why you gotta keep it so chilly in here?)
I gotta come in like Kyle Reese, man!
But when I’m on my comp, I’ll hook up some cake.

MackeyserModeratorThanks! It’s been so crazy, I haven’t played WoW in 2 months! I wake up, try to get things accomplished and flop down in bed. I do a few things on my phone, but that’s the extent of it.
Thankfully, while the crazy never ends in my existence, it’s abating enough that I can sit at my computer. You’d think I went on a world tour with how much mail I have to go through…lol, but that I can manage.
I mean just since Jan 1, my mom’s moved to Fl, my Dad’s moved here and my mother-in-law came for an extended visit…
This draft couldn’t come sooner.
By the way, what kind of craziness is it to trade away Brockers? I hope it’s the same kind of rumor craziness that had us taking Manziel last year…

February 24, 2015 at 10:00 pm in reply to: NFL teams are most reluctant to take advantage of analytics #19012MackeyserModeratorI think some teams do a LOT more on analytics than they let on and prefer to keep it secret because they feel it gives them a competitive advantage.
Sports analytics is still in its infancy especially due to the fact that while the data is universal, the context of the data is not, therefore there is as much art as science to Sports Analytics at this point.
But as the field develops and matures, more teams will be forthcoming and eventually we’ll see Meta Channels on our HD screens with overlays showing which plays a team’s run in the past that have the best chance at success against the opposing team’s defense, etc.
That’s probably 10 years away, but I could totally see that and it will take a LOT of work to incorporate all of that information into a broadcast… You think guys have to work hard now.
I know we give broadcasters a hard time for not offering much in the way of the game. And I agree that far too often, all they do is say what’s in front of them and rarely do they tell us ABOUT the game. Well, the advent of analytics could be either the best thing or worst thing to happen to sports broadcasting since instant replay…

MackeyserModeratorI’ve watched a couple of vids on this guy and DAMN do I have a serious man crush on him.
I dunno if it’s possible to have more fun watching a guy block than I did. He’s just FUN to watch. I think he’s EXACTLY what the Rams need next to GRob.
Now, presuming both White and Cooper are gone at #10, Scherff should be a slam dunk. Don’t trade down, don’t get clever… just grab the guy and know that the left side of our OL just became an alley for Tre Mason to… RUN FREEEEE.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorIf they move them and call them the LA Earthquakes or LA Tremors or any damn thing to do with the ground moving… or the ocean moving… LA Waves… LA Riptide… LA Sewage Spills (although that has a special NFL ring to it)
…then I’m just done with them.
I’ll switch to rooting for Tampa. I mean… I’ve been a Rams fan since the mid ’70s… at worst, it’s losing football with incompetent coaching and incredulously bad front office management. As a Rams Fan, I’m not just used to that, I’m frankly surprised when I don’t GET that…
So, no dilemma let alone nightmare for me. Pretty simple.
But one thing at a time.
I still have to see if I can survive the migraine that will come from the announcement that IS COMING that Jake Long will be coming back at reduced salary to man the RT position after Barksdale signs somewhere else…
Because Jake Long hasn’t gotten Bradford injured enough…

MackeyserModeratorWell, we know principle and rules won’t be at play here… What I heard Roger Goodell say is that he just wanted the owners to vote.
Now, if they all vote NO and an owner moves anyway, then… nothing. Are they really going to hold no Super Bowls in Los Angeles?
Really? Maybe not for a while, but eventually, they’ll cave.
And if St. Louis builds the NFL stadium, the NFL will put a team there. Probably Jacksonville, although who knows at this point?

MackeyserModeratorI think the answer for C will be among Barrett Jones, Turner or Demetrius Rhaney.
I think it’s actually more likely to be Jones. I think they like him and see him as being snake bit a lil, but he’s by far the smartest C we’ve had and he graded out well when he played. If he’s healthy, I think we may have an OL that looks like this…
LT – Greg Robinson
LG – Likely FA, but maybe high Draft pick
C – Barrett Jones, but maybe Turner
RG – Roger Saffold
RT – Joseph BarksdaleIf the Snisher does THAT, this OL has the potential to turn around in a hurry without major upheaval.
That’s the way I’d go… make it a competition between the three Centers we already have who’ve played well and between Turner and Jones actually graded out well in snaps.
That leaves only LG to upgrade and that’s VERY doable. Plus… if allows us to stretch maybe a little to resign Barksdale AND we don’t have to mess with the DL and lose Langford, which would be a HUGE mistake. He’s stout and while we don’t get penetration when he subs for Donald, he was subbing for Brockers and the Brockers/Langford platoon was working like a CHARM. Now, he may need to rework his contract a bit, but if that’s the case, do THAT. But don’t just dump him. Dump Carrington and find another 3 technique for rotation if that’s the case….
Anyway, didn’t mean to get off on the DL, but that’s my take on the OL. The key is properly resolving the LG position, staying in house on the C position and signing Barksdale….imho.

MackeyserModeratorA LOT will depend on that Wilson contract, its structure and the contracts of guys like Russell Okung next year.
Their contract situation is a mine field. If they don’t keep drafting at a really high level, that franchise will be really hard pressed to maintain their level of play.
Seriously, if we can get our QB and OL situations worked out, this is our time.

February 4, 2015 at 10:31 pm in reply to: Sapp Arrested For Soliciting Prostitute [Update: Fired by NFL Network] #17933MackeyserModeratorSomething doesn’t smell right.
Prostitution is a harder game than football.
So, the prostitutes throw a john with money to the po-po and take the citations for a few bumps? I’m not trying to weigh any of the morality of any of this.
Just seems like there’s a part of this story that isn’t being told.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorWell… and I can’t believe I’m defending Mrs. Frontiere on this…, but the Rams moving AWAY from LA wasn’t exactly a money grab.
Part of the problem was the Coliseum Commission. They wanted to be part of ANY new stadium, but they didn’t want anything to do with the owner of the Rams. What was she supposed to do?
When the Rams were renting from Gene Autry and playing at the Big A in Anaheim, they just plain were getting a really shitty deal, financially. It was freaking HORRIBLE. Autry didn’t really want the Rams there at all, but with the deal he was able to get them to sign, he made out like a bandit, so why not?
Now, if Mrs. Frontiere didn’t have to live off of the profits from the Rams, then perhaps she could have been more deliberative…or something.
And if she could have found a way become part of the “Hollywood” crowd including the financial movers and shakers, then more could have been done. But, she wanted RESPECT as if she’d EARNED the Rams and EARNED the money which was patently offensive to the other owners who actually built things, built their franchises.
So, she’s partly to blame as well. She essentially poisoned the well expecting the entertainment center of the planet to lavish praise and respect on her as if she were Frank Sinatra or Johnny Carson. Well, that just wasn’t going to happen and not ONLY didn’t she get that, but she got the opposite.
The Rams when they were owned by Carol Rosenbloom were loved by Hollywood and there’s no doubt in my mind that the Rams would have gotten a new stadium somewhere in LA and the Rams would STILL be in LA.
But, with how it all played out, leaving was the only sane thing to do. It’s a shame that she was ever an NFL owner not because women can’t be EXCELLENT owners, but because Mrs. Frontiere just was NOT. I don’t know what her capacity was for..well, anything, but she was just a terrible owner and the City of Los Angeles wanted the Rams, but did NOT want HER and it was very, very, very PERSONAL…right down to the fan level.
I think if the Rams went back LA to a glitzy new stadium and they went back to the Blue/Whites and evoked the return to the Fearsome Foursome (we have the D for that) and the truly glamour days… the city would really and truly embrace the club in a way that we haven’t seen since the Rosenbloom days.
Who knows what will happen? The NFL wants a stadium deal done, but it can’t because of the logic loop. Every stadium group wants partial ownership of a team and no owner wanting to move is willing to give up part of his team to move.
“Look kids… Parliament! Big Ben!”
Kroenke has an ideal situation in Inglewood to actually move a team in that he’s got an IDEAL FLAGSHIP location suitable for a two team/NFL West coast HQ. It was good BEFORE they built the 105 FWY…
Does the good work on the stadium deal of late in St. Louis complicate things? Maybe. Or maybe it simplifies it.
There could be an ownership swap, still. Kroenke could conceivably swap teams with the Davis family in a deal with the NFL for a permanent waiver with respect to his Denver holdings. Then he could move the Raiders to the super Glitzy LA digs and the Davis family would be walking into a MUCH more reasonable situation with a stadium deal basically handed to them…something which can NOT be underestimated in value.
As one of the guys working on the stadium deal in St. Louis said…”it’s only January”. Well, now it’s barely February, but it’s still very early in this process.
If I sound a little off, I am. Trying to pass a stone… still… ugh.

MackeyserModeratorI’d stay away from Carpenter. Seattle is letting him go because he’s a liability in pass coverage. They are looking to upgrade. The last thing we need is a guy who’s a decent Run blocker who can’t pass block when we desperately need our QB to stay upright.
Whomever that turns out to be.
I have this DREAD that the Snisher thinks Wells who graded out pretty well in 2013 just sees 2014 as a “tough it out” year which explains why he stunk on ice and they keep him as their starter.
Thus, it sets up only a competition for LG and backups.
Which…would be devastating.

February 4, 2015 at 12:20 am in reply to: PFF on the superbowl … including a long breakdown of The Playcall #17905MackeyserModeratorI disagree with the basic premise of the analysis.
Pete Carroll/Darrell Bevell got too cute by half. Take the TO if you have to and go heavy and run it in, but do NOT throw it into traffic.
On the other play at the end of the half, Wilson threw it where either it would have been caught, tipped out of bounds or incomplete. There were 3 Pats around that ball and only 1 Seahawk.
Even going heavy, the Pats had struggled to stop the Seahawks in the 2nd half. Was dumb not to call the TO and reset.
