InvaderRamModeratorthey need to hit on 4 picks this draft. they’ve got four in the first three rounds. those are not bad odds. maybe they even trade back from that first round pick. i get the sense that this draft class is stronger than last year’s.

InvaderRamModeratorThe media is gonna decorticate Lamar all week.
wasn’t lamar responsible for two of those turnovers?
i still think he’s a great qb, but he screwed up.
InvaderRamModeratorravens db coach dennard wilson interviewing with rams.
InvaderRamModeratori’m not sure how i feel about this.
InvaderRamModeratorWithout Wms it honestly doesn’t matter who else you draft in rounds 1-3. That’s why I am so adamant about them hopefully getting a 1B back. They need a back they can win with even when Wms is out. And if Wms isn’t out, having 2 backs, a 1A and a 1B, is a good thing. After round 3 it is dicey on picking RBs. In fact, Wms aside, the last good, productive RB the Rams drafted after round 3 was …drumroll … nobody. Wms is the only RB picked after round 3 to make something of himself in the entire history of Rams drafting, from 1937 to 2023.
i just don’t think it’s worth it to draft an rb 1b in the first three rounds. but maybe the rams will think differently. strengthening in other areas can help the team if the rams are to lose williams for a short period of time. and it will have the added benefit of making the team better when he is in the team healthy as well.
InvaderRamModeratorIt has to be round 2 or 3.
i differ slightly. and although the rams were very close to beating the lions. and they were very close to beating the heavily favored ravens, they still need help on the offensive line, in the secondary and a pass rusher. i think a backup running back will have to be later if they don’t think it’s evans. although they do have an extra third rounder so maybe there. if williams misses four or five games due to injury the rams will have to adjust. if williams faces an injury worse than that. like season ending. then it almost doesn’t matter. i think kyren is that good.
or again. the rams can opt to trade back. which again i wouldn’t be against it.
InvaderRamModeratorI was pondering a week or so ago about what this offense would be like with Steven Jackson in his prime.
it woulda been something else.
InvaderRamModeratorIn my view they need another back of roughly his caliber.
that’s easier said than done. i think kyren is pretty special. but yes. i get the concern. i do still wonder about evans. i haven’t given up on him.
InvaderRamModeratorRams have requested an interview with Cowboys DL coach Aden Durde. Not a name that was on many people’s radar.
interesting. i trust they’ll find the right guy. i’d prefer continuity. but again. complete faith that mcvay will find the best guy.
InvaderRamModeratorI don’t see the Rams acting like this OL has to be fixed.
well i don’t see it as needing to be fixed either. this is just one of many possibilities. another possibility is drafting a corner at that spot and a center later. or if they trade back and get more picks that would be great too. draft that kid from oregon. jackson powers-johnson. sounds like a late first rounder at this point. then draft secondary later in the rounds.
they’ve got options which is great. i do think they need to draft a pass rusher at some point. and add another through free agency. even if it isn’t a marquee signing. and a tight end for depth. running back maybe. it depends on what they see in evans. depends on what they think of him. maybe it’s a matter of him getting the pass protection down. i don’t know, but as a runner he seems to have potential looking back at the scouting reports. a receiver might be necessary. in the later rounds for depth. and i’m a little worried about kupp’s health.
InvaderRamModeratorthis is a thought that was just running through my head. it all depends on if they would even consider avila at center.
re-sign dotson. avila at center. then draft a left tackle in the first round. re-sign jackson. let the draft pick and jackson duke it out for left tackle with the loser slotting in at left guard. then proceed to run it down opposing teams’ throats.
InvaderRamModeratori’m hoping they can draft a cb. i like cooper dejean. when i read his profile i immediately think jalen ramsey. probably doesn’t make it that far though.
InvaderRamModeratorSeems like Aubrey Pleasant has paid his dues and should be in line for a coordinator position.
i’m hoping he gets a promotion. great reputation. knows the system and knows the players so there’s continuity.
InvaderRamModeratorack. good for him though. i’d rather the rams promote from within if possible.

InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if this belongs here but right now i’m wondering about davis allen. i don’t know what the kid’s mental makeup is like, but he’s gotta realize the opportunity in front of him right now. higbee most likely is not ready for the start of the season. there aren’t really many viable candidates besides him. long maybe but he ended the season with an injury. he really seemed to step it up a little bit at the end of the season. my guess is he’s gotta get the blocking down because he looks like a vacuum catching the ball. not very fast or agile, but he can jump. he’s got good ball skills and he’s a huge target. he’s only 22 so he can get much much stronger. it’s all right there for him to make a kyren like leap from his rookie to sophomore seasons. maybe that’s going too far. he doesn’t need to be that good. but at least good enough to be an adequate replacement for higbee.
InvaderRamModeratorThe above changes, of course, if the Rams make miracles happen and sign Brian Burns. He gives them a top-flight edge, age 26 for the next season, so they can focus elsewhere.
i’m pretty sure he’s gonna get tagged. so then you’re looking at giving up significant draft capital.
InvaderRamModeratorTeams know, Alaric Jackson can’t stay healthy.
i’m not sure about that. 2021 was his rookie season. sophomore season he suffered injuries yes. for blood clots. not sure if that’s a chronic condition. he didn’t miss many games in college. he played most of this season. i don’t think durability is a huge issue.
InvaderRamModeratorIf you lowball Jackson you’re inviting the rest of the league to think about poaching him, and therefore getting a solid experienced veteran starting LOT at a very cheap price.
i agree. i was at one point wanting to draft a left tackle to replace jackson but at this point i’d rather they opt for continuity. bring back jackson. bring back dotson. they may have to draft a center. but i’d try to bring back as many starters as i could on the oline.
InvaderRamModeratorI may be mistaken in considering this site “official,” but it’s the one that lists him as 23.
that’s weird cuz when i click on the roster it lists his age at 22.
InvaderRamModeratorSpeaking of age: Nacua is listed as 23 on the official Rams site, but 22 elsewhere. Wiki has him with a 2001 DOB and 22. A few other sites do as well. Weird that they can’t get a consensus age for players.
he’s listed as 22 on the official website.
it might not be the worst idea to trade down. just add volume and see what sticks.
i would like to see them make one major fa signing outside bringing their own players back – preferably a pass rusher.
InvaderRamModeratorBut it doesn’t have to be a priority need in terms of which draft picks to use, or how much FA money to spend.
oh. no. i’m not saying they have to spend a high pick on the position or throw huge money at a free agent. but a trade or a mid round pick is necessary. a multi-functional tight end. i like allen, but he’s a largely untested rookie and i don’t trust long.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. this all of a sudden becomes the rams biggest need on offense.
InvaderRamModeratorit’s not necessarily true that the rams will just improve this off-season. henderson. possibly morris next. donald getting older. who knows what’s going on with kupp. now higbee gone for awhile.
InvaderRamModeratorYeah Hopkins is a UFA in 2024. But I doubt they pay him because the Rams have used Allen far more than Hopkins, which makes you wonder if they even want Hopkins. (Allen has 192 snaps to Hopkins 96. Heck Hunter Long saw 55 snaps and he was on IR for all but 4 games.)
yeah. doubt they bring back hopkins. i like what i’ve seen of allen but they can’t go into next season with just allen and long. maybe they draft one. or another trade.
InvaderRamModeratorAnother threat at wide receiver might be needed if Kupp has some sort of long term injury.
i think the bigger concern now is higbee. probably out until at least mid-season. they need another tight end. hopefully allen can step up. but they need someone else. hopkins. not sure if his contract is up.
InvaderRamModeratorAnalysts I’ve seen have shown that he still runs routes like a rookie and can improve in that area.
this. i remember seeing a video of him and kupp. they were doing these footwork drills. the difference between the two was so drastic. if puka can improve this skill, i gotta think his route running will improve make him so much more effective. not just getting open but having more space after the catch when he gets the ball. also maybe make him more effective in the red zone where there’s more traffic.
and i agree too that his hands can improve. he seemed to have occasional concentration lapses. kupp had this problem his rookie year and was able to improve dramatically.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah it was a bad call. but i think there were blown calls both ways.
i think red zone inefficiency was the culprit. also the first half defense could not stop the lions. the only drive they stopped the lions offense was on a blown call by the refs.
kyren williams injury didn’t help either.
and puka. wow. only target he failed to catch was on a missed pi call which he almost certainly would have caught by the looks of it.
InvaderRamModeratormatt lafleur has done an incredible job in green bay. he’s had to oversee a qb change – replacing arguably the greatest qb of his generation. all the wide receivers and tight ends are either rookies or sophomores. wow.
InvaderRamModeratorthe selfish part of me just wants him to stay here. but he’s gotta be itching to get another chance at a hc gig.
InvaderRamModeratorveteran starting caliber qb
but i wouldn’t even consider him a veteran starting caliber qb. by its strictest definition sure he was. in reality he was a sophomore qb on his second offensive coordinator in as many years. looking back on goff’s career you can say that but at the time he wasn’t. and i would also argue that exacerbating goff’s lack of experience at the time was the fact that mcvay himself wasn’t much older than goff. their combined age didn’t even equal vermeil or fisher when they first took a job with the rams which is insane to me when you think about it.
and it’s not a knock on fisher at all. in fact i credit him with providing a lot of the essential foundation work with which mcvay had to work with including goff. and at the time i thought fisher was given a raw deal by getting canned that year. obviously i feel different now, but fisher was the best coach the rams had since vermeil.
