ModeratorBlaine Grisak@bgrisakTST The difference drop off after the top-5 edge rushers to that next tier and the depth at DL is why the Rams have to prioritize EDGE over DL in round 1. Huge drop off between Chop Robinson, Latu, etc. and Trice, Kneeland compared to Murphy to Fiske, Orhorhoro, etc.
ya know. if they ended up getting latu in the first round and fiske or orhorhoro in the second i’d be over the moon.
i suspect though that latu will be gone by that point. maybe rams trade down and get robinson or verse? i don’t like either of those guys at 19.

ModeratorWe can of course go back and forth on this forever, but I really think that the 1st pick will be front 7. In fact, I bet you a lifetime’s supply of monopoly money.
well i wouldn’t take that bet – monopoly money or not. because i would also bet that they take front seven in the first round. i’m just saying they shouldn’t be tied to it. i don’t think turner will be there. of the remaining edge rushers i think i only take latu. i’ve been converted. i don’t think verse or chop robinson are worth the 19th pick. if they trade down that’s a different story.
the dark horse and who i hope they get at 19 is darius robinson. it’d fit a definite need and he’s got the physical and mental makeup worthy of a 19th pick.
but i also wouldn’t rule out corner. i also wouldn’t rule out trading down and getting a guy like cooper at the end of the first round.
i also wouldn’t rule out an offensive tackle. not just because jackson is on a one year deal but you got havenstein on the other side.
but yeah. if i had to bet? it’d be front seven.

Moderatorwell that’s kinda what i mean. certainly front seven needs to be addressed but not necessarily with the first pick. it could be corner. it could even be oline. front seven could come in the second and third rounds.
or it could be trade down.
the more i see of latu the more i like him. looks so fluid. so athletic. maybe doesn’t test as well as the other edge prospects but looks more natural more instinctive maybe… him or chop robinson maybe. verse looks a little stiff to me. turner won’t be there at 19.

Moderatorlahornsgear@Horns2016@Horns2016According to http://overthecap.com the Rams have 14.3 in cap space and after they pay their rookie class, they will 10.5 million in cap space.so does this mean another possible signing before training camp starts?
i still think a guy like calais campbell would be good on a one year deal. not even sure he’d be interested in coming here.

Moderatorrams should just draft best player available. trying to replace like with like seems like a mistake to me. and there should be plenty of talent available as long as they don’t tie themselves to one position.

Moderatorthis is from the following espn article.
https://africa.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39615406/ucla-lb-laiatu-latu-hearing-no-concerns-neck-history
“[Watkins] just looked at my scans and cleared me,” Latu said. “Because he’s had guys with the same, similar stuff, like Danielle Hunter and Peyton Manning, and he really just told me I would be able to play football.”
that does ease my concern. if there’s no issue with the neck draft him.
InvaderRam
ModeratorI’ve been doing more reading around on him. I am not so sure he checks out medically (?)
well reports are that he cleared medical exams at the combine. but who knows? he lost a year to the neck injury. they thought his career was over. he transferred to ucla and had two great years. otherwise he’s a surefire first rounder looks like.
it freaks me out a little bit but it also depends on what the doctors say. i could see him slipping. sounds like the most pro-ready edge rusher though.
InvaderRam
Moderatorwow. that makes me feel a little bit better about latu. i’m just worried about his neck injury he suffered, but if he checks out medically why not?
InvaderRam
Moderatori remember that play against ap. it’s funny because when i saw it i thought the same thing as donald. this kid could be special.
InvaderRam
ModeratorI wonder if he’s ready to go from day one? Will he be on a pitch count?
well that’s something that they must have discussed. cam akers had a new surgery – called the speedbridge surgery – which shortened the recovery time from 12 months to 5 months. i don’t know if white was a candidate for that type of surgery??? if that was the case, then i gotta think he’s had more than enough time.
but how good will be post surgery? who knows?
InvaderRam
Moderatoreven with the rams signing white, i might still draft defensive back in the first round if i were the rams. i could see cooper dejean fitting into this secondary. maybe at first as a safety and then moving to cornerback in a year when white is a free agent again?
InvaderRam
Moderatorcurious to see how he does on his pro day which will be in mid april sometime.

Moderatorapparently the rams’ team doctor is the one who did the achilles surgery on white. so the rams may have had some insight other teams did not.

Moderatorjust saw the rams signed tre’davious white? boom or bust signing.

Moderatori don’t know. at first glance i don’t like this rule. i don’t want players to get hurt, but what are defenses supposed to do now?
InvaderRam
Moderatorrandom thought. wonder if the rams have any interest in bringing calais campbell or if he’d even be interested in playing for the rams. he played at high level last year. and played all 17 games.
InvaderRam
Moderatori’m still in disbelief that the rams were able to sign a player the caliber of curl at the price they were able to sign him. i really haven’t ever seen him play but what i read sounds incredible. sounds like another under the radar signing the rams seem to be known for lately.
InvaderRam
ModeratorTurner is going to get a good deal more attention this season, and I expect his effectiveness to drop.
yeah this is the problem. to what degree did the players around donald benefit from his presence. didn’t he play like an ungodly percentage of defensive snaps?
jones, turner, young, others will get more attention now. offenses don’t have to account for donald anymore. i’m not optimistic. but maybe they have another draft like they did last year. plus with a first round pick. so anything is possible.

Moderatorthis is a real bummer. i think the rams are still in contention for making the playoffs but that’s it. superbowl i think is out the door. you’re not just trying to replace a hall of famer. you’re trying to replace a guy against whom all others at his position and likely even other positions will be compared. i do think it’s useless to try and debate best defensive player ever. there’s just too many variables and it’s too subjective an argument. but the fact that he’s even in that realm to have such a discussion.
how in the hell do you replace him? yeah with multiple players sure. but the odds of that in one year are nigh impossible. i’m happy for him. i certainly don’t want him walking away from the game physically and mentally a shell of himself. for that i am actually truly proud of him. it doesn’t surprise me either. i partially expected him to do something like this. he just strikes me as that type of guy. but it is a bummer from a selfish point of view.
InvaderRam
Moderatori don’t know if this has been posted but tre’davious white is visiting with the rams. when healthy he’s supposed to be a lockdown corner but the key word is healthy. he had a torn acl in 2021 and tore his achilles in 2023.
InvaderRam
Moderatori’ve said it before but i really like this signing. i don’t really know much about football, but he looks really aggressive on tape. and the things i’m reading about his versatility and intelligence. i don’t think he’ll be another ramsey. but he brings similar traits. and then if the rams drafted a guy like cooper dejean who also has similar traits. that’d be a helluva secondary.
InvaderRam
Moderatorwho’s the worst clunker in rams’ history under the les snead regime?
InvaderRam
ModeratorConspiracy theory on the net: AD will come back for the stretch drive like Eric Weddle. Me: Nah. That isn’t the way the man operates. He never took a shortcut in his life.
i do hope he changes his mind before the season starts. i won’t fully believe it until maybe 2 years post-retirement. haha. call it denial i guess.
InvaderRam
Moderatorthere’s certain guys who were just on a different level compared to their peers. lawrence taylor, jim brown, barry sanders… i always wondered what it would be like to have a guy like that on the rams who reached a kind of mythical status. there was marshall faulk, but half his career was spent with the colts. it never felt quite the same. i always would get a little envious when old rams heads would talk about deacon jones and merlin olsen. but that’s where i would place aaron donald. i got to witness one of the greatest nfl careers ever. at any position. and all of it was with the rams.
it went by way too fast.

ModeratorChristian Rozeboom will return to the Rams on a one year deal, according to a source. The Rams didn't want to put the $3M tender on him bc of amount, but incoming deal will include fully guaranteed money. Rozeboom had a choice to make between a couple teams but preferred to stay.

Moderatordarius robinson is my choice.
he’s no aaron donald. but that would be impossible to find anyway.
InvaderRam
Moderatorwell. defensive line all of a sudden shoots to the very tippy top of the list. and maybe even above that as well. all of a sudden i’m looking at darius robinson.
but i’m happy for donald. i guess. give me some time. i’m just numb right now.
