I never take McVay’s offense for granted. Its such a well-executed, well-orchestrated scheme. (Especially when Kupp is healthy). I mean the high level of execution AND the beauty of the scheme.
The execution delights me. They dont drop balls. They dont fumble. They dont throw INTs. They go where they are supposed to go. I swear. I remember back when Montana and Walsh were carving up ram defenses. And i would just shake my head at the damn perfect execution of Montana, Rice, Craig, Rathman, etc. This offense reminds me more of the old 49er offense than the GSOT.
i think this offense is less vulnerable than the gsot.
maybe i’m wrong. but it’s definitely more balanced. maybe partially because of the new rules. but goff is less prone to getting bulgerized in an offense as balanced as this rams offense.
and i still don’t think we’ve seen the best. gurley, woods, and cooks have a lot of tread left on the tires. hopefully, kupp comes back next year healthy. but goff is just now starting to scratch the surface of how good he can become. i honestly don’t think he’s there yet. like i said. there’s only one other qb i’d take over goff right now. that’s mahomes. that guy is on another level. he reminds me of aaron rodgers. he’s that good. but it won’t be any knock on goff if he can have a career similar to that of brees.
quarterbacks typically don’t peak until around their age 29 season. goff is in his age 24 season. he’s got four more seasons after this one before he hits his age 29 season. what will he look like then? or even what will he look like in 2021 – his age 27 season? gurley will be 27 and hopefully in the prime of his career. cooks will be in his age 28 season and still under contract. robert woods will be 29 and should still be under contract. kupp’s contract ends in 2020. so i don’t know what happens there.
the gsot in 2000 when they were arguably at their greatest before warner went down with an injury. faulk was 27. isaac was 28. torry was 24. kurt was 29.
one problem i see though is replacing whitworth. he won’t be around by then. so how do they replace him? is noteboom the answer? i hope so. he can’t ask for a better situation learning under whitworth and being coached by kromer. he’ll be in the last year of his rookie contract in 2021.
hopefully, the rams can stay relatively healthy. and if noteboom can provide continuity at left tackle, the next 3-4 years could be fun.
of course. the rams also have to re-sign goff for all this to work. hehe.
i’m not saying it all came down to this, but it was huge.
rams got a turnover in saints territory. came away with no points.
saints got a turnover in rams territory and get a touchdown.
that’s a 14 point swing right there. and maybe hekker got the first down but i don’t like the fact that it got to fourth down anyway. and sean should have gone for the fg.
as far as it being too easy to score with the new rules? i agree. they gotta give pass defenders more leeway in terms of contact with the receivers before they get the ball. and maybe not let olinemen get away with holding so much. and hopefully you get better defense without all the concussions. that’s my 2 cents anyway.
And Goff’s off day, he had a 112 rating. Didn’t he? Is that an off day?

he did have a poor first half. but yeah. he did pretty well overall.
actually, i take it more as just an indication of how high the expectations have become for goff. and that’s a good thing.
