AgamemnonParticipantRodger Saffold is here at #Rams headquarters saying goodbye to everyone. He hasn't officially signed with a new team, but obviously, it looks like he's Rams career is over.

Rams tender restricted free agents, exclusive rights free agents
Myles Simmons
Rams linebacker Cory Littleton headlines the group of nine restricted and exclusive rights free agents that Los Angeles has tendered in advance of the new league year on Wednesday.
The club’s starting middle linebacker in 2018, Littleton is an upcoming restricted free agent and has been given a second-round tender. With that, Littleton is able to negotiate with other teams but should he reach a deal, that team would have to send L.A. a second round pick as compensation.
Safety Blake Countess, running back Malcolm Brown, and cornerback Troy Hill all received an original-round tender. Since both Brown and Hill entered the league as undrafted free agents, this gives the Rams only the right of first refusal to any deal the two should reach on the open market. But because Countess was a sixth-round draft pick, any other team that signs Countess would have to send L.A. a sixth round pick as compensation.
Los Angeles also tendered five of its six exclusive rights free agents: defensive end Morgan Fox, cornerback Kevin Peterson, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge, cornerback Dominique Hatfield, and return specialist JoJo Natson. Both Fox and Peterson suffered season-ending knee injuries before the season started, but they could also play significant roles on the 2019 squad if healthy. Natson, of course, took over as the Rams’ returner due to the injury to former returner Pharoh Cooper in 2018. Hodge and Hatfield played mostly on special teams during the 2018 season.
Additionally, outside linebacker Dante Fowler has signed his one-year deal to remain under contract in L.A. through the 2019 season.
Free agency will officially begin with the onset of the new league year on Wednesday at 1 p.m. PDT.
AgamemnonParticipantRams tendered all four of their RFAs — Littleton, CB Troy Hill, RB Malcolm Brown, and S Blake Countess. Also tendered five of six exclusive rights FAs. More inside ⬇️⬇️ https://t.co/fOTNF28Q95

AgamemnonParticipantRams GM Les Snead said if they go for a running back in free agency, the goal would be to bring back CJ Anderson. If Anderson's demand is out of their price range, they will turn to Malcolm Brown.

AgamemnonParticipantJust got a few nuggets from #LARams GM Les Snead. He said that at this point, based on figures that have been exchanged, LG Rodger Saffold is likely to receive a more lucrative contract elsewhere. Said the same of DT Ndamukong Suh.
— Myles Simmons (@MylesASimmons) March 12, 2019
Snead also said that at this point (and, again, this is before FA starts + the draft), if Saffold does indeed sign elsewhere then Noteboom would slot in at LG. Allen at C. Micah Kiser at ILB replacing Barron.

Les Snead said the Rams are going to continue to monitor Mark Barron's market.

Les Snead said that they’re “projecting” that Ndamukong Suh will be out of their price range.

AgamemnonParticipantWith the return of Ndamukong Suh up in the air, could Notre Dame’s Jerry Tillery be a player of interest to the #Rams as a potential day one starter? My look at who the Rams might be targeting with the 31st pick in the first round: https://t.co/EyCqaf0Fgq
— Vincent Bonsignore (@VinnyBonsignore) March 12, 2019
AgamemnonParticipant
Fowler: Cap hit = $12,000,000

Weddle: Cap hit = $5,751,525
.
Spotrac Cap = $16,708,193
OvertheCap = $17,892,895 = [$29,892,895 – Fowler’s number ($12M)]Both sites have this mistake >>

So we don’t have an exact figure. It could be +$2.6M more? Maybe Vinne knows.
When the season and the draft start we will need to figure common expenses, too. That is another ~$9.4M.
.
By Wed we have to do our RFAs, that could another -$5M.
.
My estimate of $5M eventual Cap Space stands. It is easy for the Rams to find more money if they want. We can sign CJ and Saffold if we want. It would be hard to do any one year contracts any more unless they are minimum or at least low wage.

AgamemnonParticipantPound for pound, they don’t come much tougher than Lamarcus Joyner. #Raiders are getting a good, solid, hard nosed football player. And that’s looking like a fourth-round comp luck coming back to #Rams for 2020 draft
— Vincent Bonsignore (@VinnyBonsignore) March 12, 2019
Vinnie seems to get his stuff right. Maybe it is a 4th for Joyner?
AgamemnonParticipantFYI: Tillery kept the severity of the injury on the DL save for a handful of people. He could have shut his season down and had surgery to start preparing for draft. Instead he gutted the season out then participated in every drill at combine before finally having surgery https://t.co/aSEWmReFTa
— Vincent Bonsignore (@VinnyBonsignore) March 11, 2019
AgamemnonParticipantThat was enough for a 3rd round comp pick last year, but maybe not enough this year?
I;ve been hearing it’s more like a 4th.

I checked over-the-cap, $10.5M. Of course, this isn’t written is stone. https://overthecap.com/projecting-the-2019-compensatory-picks/

AgamemnonParticipantThe #Raiders are expected to sign for former #Rams franchise player, safety Lamarcus Joyner, sources say. A free safety that gives them speed in the secondary.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 12, 2019
Got the full numbers on the Mitch Morse deal with the #Bills and it’s a whopper: four years, $44.5 million with $26.5 million guaranteed. He gets $19.5M in Year 1 and $28.375M by Year 2. The $11.125M APY is the new bar for centers. https://t.co/mLPGMVzhTN
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 12, 2019
If a Morse can get that, what can Saffold get?
.
Joyner’s deal is for four years at around $10.5 million per year, according to ESPN.
That was enough for a 3rd round comp pick last year, but maybe not enough this year?-

AgamemnonParticipantbut given that how does he fall to the 31st pick?
Different people rate him differently. Character concerns…… The draft is a big guessing game.

JERRY TILLERY

AgamemnonParticipant2019 Chargers Draft Profile: Notre Dame DT Jerry Tillery
The Chargers could use a shot of length and athleticism along the interior.
By Michael Peterson@ZoneTracks Feb 12, 2019, 10:22am PSTEnter Jerry Tillery. A sky-high tower of a man that should be the first one off the bus on every road trip. At 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, Tillery instantly becomes the tallest on the team while taking up the mantle as most athletic interior defensive linemen.
"Tillery goes to work quickly with an attractive burst, hitting peak extension quickly and being able to carve up his matchup with pure strength if proper leverage is achieved." @_ChristianPage
Scouting Report on DL Jerry Tillery: https://t.co/WmE7BMpYm4 pic.twitter.com/Vy16PKM49j
— Cover 1 (@Cover_1_) February 8, 2019
After a season that saw defensive tackles break out in spectacular fashion, the flow of the NFL is starting to lean towards the value of disruptive and explosive interior linemen. Everyone used to want the next Von Miller. Now, they want the next Aaron Donald or Chris Jones.
That is exactly who Tillery can be.
ICYMI: what makes Jerry Tillery so special as an interior rusher? Watch Senior analyst Mike Renner break it down below. You can access the full 2019 NFL Draft Film Room series on our Youtube channel as well. https://t.co/8aH25sGkBj pic.twitter.com/9JFRMUZ2xN
— PFF Draft (@PFF_College) February 5, 2019
Tillery came to South Bend by way of Louisiana where he was a First-Team All-State selection at the 3A level as an offensive tackle. He was rated the 126th-best player by Rivals.com and was their 11th-ranked tackle prospect. ESPN had him as their 280th-best prospect while being named their 30th-ranked offensive tackle.
He wound up playing defensive line and found himself playing in 12 games during his true freshmen year in 2015, starting three. He had 12 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a single sack.
In the following year, Tillery played in all 12 games again while starting 11. He recorded 37 tackles with just with three for a loss. In 2017, his true junior season, Tillery took a giant leap forward in becoming the dominant force that he was this past season.
As a whole, the Irish defense jump 20 spots in in a multitude of defensive categories and Tillery was a big part of it. He totaled 56 tackles to go along with nine for a loss (third on team, tops for DL), 4.5 sacks (led team), and a forced fumble.
It was in 2018, however, that Tillery really started to make some noise and get his draft stock meter rising. The senior made 30 total stop this past season. over a third of them for a loss (10.5) and led the team with eight sacks. His best game came against the Stanford Cardinal where he collected four sacks and forced a fumble. He was named the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week, Bronco Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week and Reese’s Senior Bowl Senior of the Week for his efforts.
He was invited to the Reese’s Senior but unfortunately declined the chance to play in Mobile.
When rushing the passer, Jerry Tillery was as dominant a defender as we saw on the field this season. pic.twitter.com/aqsavOpZ0O
— PFF Draft (@PFF_College) February 8, 2019
In the graphic above, you can see the steady rise in Tillery’s performance over the last few years. His overall grade of 91.5 was elite and good for sixth-best among interior defenders. His pass rush grade was tied for first while his pass-rush productivity rating was good for fourth. Unfortunately, is run-stopping grade has improved yet still remains in the bottom part of the rankings.
His length and motor would allow him to play almost anywhere along the line while his burst off the line of scrimmage would cause linemen to scurry and break duties while not trying to get whipped off the snap.
He has a type of hustle that coaches covet. Most of his big plays were the result of simply not giving up when the going got tough. His best, obviously, is his motor. However, the development that he has shown over the years will need to continue to become an every-down player, but the upside is very, very apparent.
AgamemnonParticipantMarch 11, 2019 at 8:15 pm in reply to: REPORT: DT Ndamukong Suh not expected back with Los Angeles Rams #98812
AgamemnonParticipantI was disappointed in Suh.
i woulda rather kept suh for one more year than fowler.
but it all depends on the draft. maybe they figure they can get a blue chip dl prospect in the first round and then an edge rusher later. then you got a bunch of edge rushers you can rotate and a dlineman you can plug in right away with donald and brockers.
basically i’m guessing they think their chances of getting a top notch dlineman with the first pick is much higher than getting a top notch edge rusher with the same pick.
I really hate that Suh coasted. This draft, unless some top pass rusher drops, is more about Dline in the first round. imo
Snead likes to trade. I got my favorites, but as long as we get a good player/s I am fine.-

AgamemnonParticipantCan they afford CJ now?
Sure, np. Saffold, too. They could do Saffold for whatever it takes, but what is reasonable? $8M? $10M? Right now Arizona looks like the biggest competition and they don’t have that much money. The Rams have almost $100M in cap space next year, about anything is possible. Maybe not wise, but possible.
.
They can do Saffold and a few low/minimum range FAs without cutting or extending anybody. The would just have to move a bit of Saffold’s money into the future.-

AgamemnonParticipant31 is reach for Tillery. Outside of Fowler, the only one that can legitimately rush the passer is Aaron Donald. You have some Edge Rushers, but too many that are pass rushers. There are players like Tillery you can get later in the later rounds. Edge(Pass) Rushers you can’t get them later. You have to get them early.
I do not think Tillery is a reach. I hope he falls to us. So, I will stay with my opinion. I always believe my stuff is better. I am not trying to change your mind. But, I don’t care what other people think when I have my own ideas.
