Los Angeles Rams sign CB Adonis Alexander to practice squad
Moves are being made.
By Sosa Kremenjas@QBsMVP Nov 14, 2019, 10:43am CSTAfter calling up CB Donte Deayon to the 53-man active roster, the Los Angeles Rams have filled his practice squad spot by signing CB Adonis Alexander:
Alexander is a former 6th-round draft pick by the Washington Redskins in 2018’s Supplemental NFL Draft. The hulking CB stands at 6’3” and 205 lbs, coming out of Virginia Tech.
Alexander was waived by the Redskins just prior to the season, landing on Washington’s practice squad. Alexander lasted on the practice squad until October 1st, now joining the Rams’ practice squad.
The Rams had two practice squad spots vacated yesterday after signing Deayon and OL Chandler Brewer to the active roster, though they filled one of the spots immediately by signing OL Nate Trewyn. The 10th spot on the practice squad is now occupied by Alexander, who’ll logically replace Deayon.
Alexander is only 23-years-old, has played in nine NFL games, and only has four tackles in his short career.

AgamemnonParticipantExpect more deals in future years like the Dolphins’ acquisition of cornerback Aqib Talib. The Rams sent Talib and a 2020 fifth-round pick to Miami in exchange for a 2022 seventh-round pick, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This was essentially a salary dump. Talib is on injured reserve with a rib injury and due $4.2 million the rest of the season. While it’s possible there are more details forthcoming, the Dolphins presumably agreed to pay that money to get an extra pick in the 2020 draft. That’s awfully expensive considering that fifth-round picks rarely become starters, but it’s not so different than the Brock Osweiler-to-Cleveland move from a few years ago. It’s possible the Dolphins could also pick up a 2021 compensatory pick if Talib, an impending free agent, signs elsewhere next year.

Rams send Aqib Talib and a pick to Dolphins
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 29, 2019, 1:53 PM EDTThe Dolphins are buyers at the trade deadline. Sort of.
The Rams sent Aqib Talib and a fifth-round pick to the Dolphins for a future pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Without knowing what the future pick the Dolphins are sending back is, we can’t really assess that trade, but it seems likely that the future pick is actually worse than that fifth-rounder, and this is actually the Rams unloading the remainder of Talib’s salary this season. Talib is a vested veteran, which means his full salary is guaranteed for the rest of the season, and the Rams would have been on the hook for the rest of his salary if they had released him.
Talib becomes a free agent after the season.
Whether Talib actually plays for the Dolphins remains to be seen. He’s currently on injured reserve, and the Dolphins may just leave him there for the rest of the year and pocket that pick from the Rams.

AgamemnonParticipantNet cash savings for Peters and Talib out and Jalen Ramsey in is $8m for the #Rams. Also, they appear satisfied with the Ramsey/Hill pairing and the others currently in the CB rotation

Rams clear some salary cap space, basically pay the Dolphins to take on contract of Aqib Talib. Talib is on IR, and I would be surprised if he plays again this season. https://t.co/wJIP1HCzYs

AgamemnonParticipantI did a lot of this using images. They have disappeared. I worked on how many cheap players I could fit on a roster to see how many star players I could have. 65% is reasonable for your star players, be it 7 or 12. imo
AgamemnonParticipanttop tier 12 [your best players. ?over ~6 million] 60% ~93.2M for 2016 [ ? Upper Limit ]
middle tier 12 [the rest of the starters. ?less than ~6 million] 26% ~40.4M for 2016 [ ? Lower Limit ]
bottom tier 36 [includes IR. less than 1 million] 14.0% ~21.7M for 2016 [ Lower Limit ]
.
I will need to check some rosters to see how this stuff fits what is actaully out there. I think the bottom tier is a limit.
All your RFAs and top draft choices[rounds 1 and 2] will be in the middle, at least ?10.
All your top and middle tier players figure to be starters.
.
Players 1 – 12 have an average salary of 7.7M.
Players 13 – 24 have an average salary of 3.37M.
Players 25 – 60 have an average salary of 603k.
.
.
The Rams top 12 at 53.8% = ~83.5 million
The Rams middle 18 at 28.9% = ~44.9 million
The Rams bottom 30 at 13.3% = ~20.7 million
Rams Cap Space = 4.0% = ~6.2 million
Total…………………. 100.0% ………. $155.3
.
The Rams, 10 of 18 are RFAs and top draft choices[rounds 1 and 2] in the middle tier.
.
Players 1 – 12 have an average salary of 7.0M.
Players 13 – 30 have an average salary of 2.5M.
Players 31 – 60 have an average salary of 690k
.
The Rams have plenty of cheap young players.top tier 10-12 [your best players. ?over ~6 million] 72.0% ~111.8M for 2016 [ Upper Limit ]
middle tier 12-14 [the rest of the starters. ?less than ~6 million] 14.0% ~21.7M for 2016 [ Lower Limit ]
12-14 players would make an average of $1.5 million/year.
bottom tier 36 [includes IR. less than 1 million] 14.0% ~21.7M for 2016 [ Lower Limit ]
36 players would make an average of $0.6 million/year. -
