This Fisher’s history at Tenn. The years they won at least 3 preseason games and the years they won at least 3 of the first 4 regular season games.
I did not expect the correlation to be this high. 8 times he won 3 preseason games. 5 times he won at least 3 of the first 4 regular season games. 6 times he finished with a winning record. The only outlier is 2002, when he went 11- 5 with less than 3 preseason wins and less than 3 wins in the first 4 regular season games.
Maybe preseason victories can mean something?

Rams notes: After smooth start, Brown ready for next test
41 minutes ago • By Jim ThomasNASHVILLE • For openers, rookie guard Jamon Brown had smooth sailing against Oakland. He’s hoping for more of the same in the Rams’ second preseason game, a 7 p.m. kickoff Sunday against Tennessee.
“It was great to get out and good to play against a new opponent rather than our group,” Brown said of his pro debut at Oakland. “But as far as from practice and everything, I think our defense got me prepared enough. I’m feeling pretty good about the game.”
Along with the rest of the starting offensive line, Brown played two series against the Raiders. That playing time should increase against the Titans.
The third-round pick out of Louisville is one half of a rookie right side for the Rams’ O-line, with second-rounder Rob Havenstein of Wisconsin at right tackle. For openers, things went smoothly against the Raiders in terms of line calls and assignments.
“We were pretty solid,” Brown said. “Anything that came up out there, it’s not something I hadn’t seen before. We were able to talk out there. Me and Rob and Timmy (Barnes), and all the guys up front, we were on the same page and we were able to get it done.”
Barnes started at center against the Raiders, but Barrett Jones is expected to start against Tennessee in the ongoing center competition.
Rookies or not, Brown said he and Havenstein are getting more in sync every day.
“Each day that goes past that we work together we get more and more on the same page,” Brown said. “I think we’re doing a good job with our communication and with our chemistry.”
Coach Jeff Fisher likes what he has seen so far from the rookies.
“Both Rob and ‘JB’ I thought played well against Oakland and had a good two days of practice against a good Cowboy defense (in Oxnard),” Fisher said. “So they’re continuing to improve and learning every day. You know, they act like they’ve been there before.”
MARCUS MANIA
With all due respect to Fisher’s return to Nashville, Sunday’s game probably is being televised nationally because of the presence of quarterback Marcus Mariota on the Tennessee roster.Even after trading for Nick Foles, the Rams held a private workout for Mariota a couple of weeks before the draft. Mariota went No. 2 overall to Tennessee out of Oregon, with the Rams selecting Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion in the third round.During training camp, Mariota’s throws were charted by local media, and he went his first 230 throws in practice without tossing an interception. His first preseason game didn’t go as well, with the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner throwing an interception and fumbling. But he recovered to complete seven of eight passes for 94 yards at Atlanta.
TIGER TALK
Former University of Missouri standout Dorial Green-Beckham had a slow start for Tennessee at wide receiver. The Titans’ second-round pick showed up overweight and had problems with drops early in training camp. But his play has improved of late and the talented rookie from Springfield, Mo., has been getting some work with the starting offense even though he’s listed third-team on the official depth chart. The Titans’ roster includes three other former Mizzou players: linebacker Zaviar Gooden, tight end Chase Coffman and long snapper Beau Brinkley. Gooden, a third-round draft pick by the Titans in 2013, won’t play Sunday because of a hamstring injury.

PLAYOFF TICKETS
Yes, playoff tickets. In a new league-wide policy this season, all NFL clubs are required to offer their season-ticket holders the opportunity to reserve tickets for any postseason game that they may host in that season before the start of the regular season. The league passed this resolution at its owners’ meetings in March. The Rams haven’t had a home playoff game since 2003, so reserving playoff tickets in September may be the height of optimism. But it’s now league policy, and Rams season-ticket holders must declare/reserve their playoff tickets by Sept. 4 or opt out.Joe Lyons of the Post-Dispatch contributed to this story. AgamemnonParticipantMaybe, if we keep 10 OL, he might make the team. imo
He would have to be more valuable than the 4th TE and Fisher keeps only 24 players on the defense. imo
An injury could change things.
Lucky for us, we can see how he plays Sunday. 😉

AgamemnonParticipantFox Sports’ Kevin Burkhardt: Rams’ Defense Has Potential to be NFL’s Best
Brendan Marks posted on August 21, 2015 11:25Fox Sports’ Kevin Burkhardt, who is calling the Rams-Titans preseason game on Sunday, joined The Ryan Kelley Morning After to discuss a number of topics surrounding the team
We typed up some notable excerpts from the interview, which you can listen to by clicking below:
On so much focus being paid to the Rams’ uncertain future instead of the on-the-field product:
“It’s weird, isn’t it? Just getting ready for this game on Sunday, every article online is not only about the Cowboys brawl, but that they’re practicing in Oxnard, Calif. and Rams fans were there. It’s very strange the way it’s going down, especially considering I think they could be pretty good. It’s definitely different. Hopefully they get off to a good start and people in St. Louis can have something to root for.”
On the angry St. Louis Rams fans:
“It’s easier to understand. I can tell you I know what kind of town it is. Would I go and spend my money if I knew the team was moving next year? I don’t know that I would. That’s a tough thing. I get it. If that’s the fervor there, I understand it.”
On chance a lot of fans don’t show up for Week 1 against the Seahawks:
“You don’t want week 1 feeling like a preseason game, that’s for sure. But they might get it. Especially if the Cardinals are playing, I don’t know if anybody’s going to care by that point.”
On how good he thinks the Rams’s defense will be:
“I think they have the potential to be (one of the best). I love what they’ve built. The average age of their defense is 25 years old. I like what they didn last year, and they came on in the second half. They’ve got to go out and do it. I love their defensive line and I think they’re going to be better. I think think their secondary, their safeties are really underrated. McCleod and McDonald are very solid players. They’ve got what they need back there. I think the pieces are there. They just have to go and do it.”

Jeff Fisher rules Rams guard Rodger Saffold out for Sunday’s preseason game
By Nick WagonerEARTH CITY, Mo. — St. Louis Rams offensive lineman Rodger Saffold missed Thursday’s practice as he continues to recover from an apparent right shoulder injury suffered in the preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders.
Saffold also sat out Monday and Tuesday’s practices against the Dallas Cowboys in Oxnard, California, so it should come as no surprise that Saffold will not play in this week’s game against the Tennessee Titans. With Saffold out, Brandon Washington continued to get the reps with the first-team at left guard.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed as much Thursday night but also hinted that Saffold was making progress.
“We’re going to hold him out this week but he’s doing well, doing much better,” Fisher said.
Saffold has a long injury history, most of which has been tied to his left shoulder, which he had surgically repaired in the offseason. The Rams are wise not to rush him back and allow him to strengthen the shoulder before he returns. With little depth behind him and considering that Saffold is, by far, the team’s most experienced starter, his services are needed.
And logically, holding him out now to try to make sure he’s healthy for the long haul should take precedence over rushing him back for preseason games.
A few other notes from Thursday’s practice:
Fisher also announced that the Rams are helping to fund a program in which a certified athletic trainer will be present at all St. Louis area Public High League football games in 2015. The team is donating $15,000 to the cause.
Sitting out the practice: CB Brandon McGee, CB E.J. Gaines, LB Daren Bates, LB Korey Toomer, OL Cody Wichmann, Saffold, DT Michael Brockers, DT Doug Worthington. Wichmann did some work on the side with the training staff and actually had his helmet but did not participate. Still, it’s the first sign of progress toward a return from him in this camp. Running back Todd Gurley also continues to do individual drills. Tight end Brad Smelley limped off the field during practice.
Demetrius Rhaney took his turn with the first team at center.
Safety T.J. McDonald and linebacker James Laurinaitis ran into each other as they converged to break up a pass in red zone work. As they went down, end Robert Quinn began yelling “Careful, careful, we’re not in Oxnard anymore.”
I’m not exactly sure what that meant but I do know the weather felt like southern California. It was easily the most gorgeous St. Louis weather the Rams have had in this camp with temperatures in the mid 70s.
Some highlights from the practice field. … QB Nick Foles hit receiver Chris Givens on a nice deep ball down the middle of the field for a would-be touchdown in team drills. Givens is quietly having a pretty good camp. … Foles also lofted a perfect strike to tight end Lance Kendricks between two defenders in the right corner of the end zone for a touchdown in red zone work. … It wasn’t all good news for the offense, though, as Laurinaitis tipped a pass for an interception for Lamarcus Joyner and linebackers Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Alec Ogletree came up with picks as well.
The Rams are off tomorrow and will have a walkthrough before traveling to Tennessee to play the Titans. They leave Saturday with the game set for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.August 20, 2015 at 9:14 pm in reply to: setting up the Titans game (which is nationally broadcast) #29029

AgamemnonParticipantOLINE–some things are changing, and getting better. Our 1st unit opened several holes that they couldn’t on Monday. We looked much more like a power run team than we did on Monday.
I hope that is all true. It is what I expect.
AgamemnonParticipant
AgamemnonParticipantMy impression of the Rams DL is that Oakland pushed them around a bit. I expected the Rams to do the pushing. But then it was just 2 possessions in the first preseason game. If this defense isn’t top 10, it is Williams fault. They have too much talent. They need a running game to be top 5. imo
AgamemnonParticipantHow close did Dez Bryant come to participating in one-on-one drills vs. Rams?
Jon Machota Email jmachota@dallasnews.com
Published: August 18, 2015 10:18 pmDallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (88) watches practice from the sidelines with team owner Jerry Jones during a joint practice with the St. Louis Rams at Cowboys training camp on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, in Oxnard, Calif. (Smiley N. Pool/The Dallas Morning News)
OXNARD, Calif. – The multiple fights between the Cowboys and Rams overshadowed some earlier fireworks in Tuesday’s practice.
Although Dez Bryant (hamstring) was held out of one-on-one drills, he was talking trash with several of the Rams cornerbacks, particularly Trumaine Johnson.
Johnson was taunting the Cowboys wide receivers by calling out the score of the drill, which St. Louis was winning.
At one point, Bryant lined up as if he was going to take a rep. As Johnson was still talking, Tony Romo told Bryant to go against the Rams fourth-year corner. Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan quickly stepped in and told Bryant to get out of the drill.
Bryant walked toward the back of the end zone, saying that there’d be no talking if he was out there.
“They can hold me all they want,” Bryant said. “I’ll catch it any way.”
Bryant was fired up after Monday’s session with the Rams, pacing back-and-forth and yelling in the direction of the Cowboys wide receivers as they did post-practice stretching.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett talked before Tuesday’s practice about how much he loves Bryant’s passion.
“I love Dez Bryant,” Garrett said. “Our coaches love Dez Bryant. Our players love Dez Bryant. There’s a lot to love about Dez Bryant.”
“You certainly love his passion and love how much he loves his team and his teammates,” Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said. “But I’m not supportive of anything that has to do with something that ends up in fights and scrums and those types of situations.”
