Saffold, our only real vet, is the worst one. Go figure?

Defensive rankings posted … A little later than we actually planned, but our initial ranking of the DEs, DTs, MLBs, OLBs, CBs and safeties for the 2016 draft have been posted. And while there is still over 200 days to go until the picks start to come off the board next April, on first blush, it looks like it could be a very good year at CB, DE and OLB, while it should be pretty good at DT. On the other hand, the pickings at MLB and safety look like they could be considerably slimmer.

Foles can demonstrate touch. But, he is no better than average when it comes to being accurate.

Lots of upsets today. At least we aren’t the Giants. 😉

It appears that we lost the RG3 trade.

Apparently, the Rams aren’t a road team just yet. Neither are they a team that fares well against the 3-4.

Doesn’t bode well for the next 3 games.

If this team doesn’t find that Week 1 intensity, they’ll be staring down the barrel of 1-4 entering the bye week.

I would have participated in the chat more, but it seemed my entries didn’t post to the chat. I quit out of the chat and then it didn’t reload at all, so… /shrug

The chat was buggy. A lot of lag, for me.

The Rams are better, but Washington might be able to keep it close. I expect the refs to call a lot of penalties. The game might be decided in the 4th quarter. So, the Rams win or they don’t. 😉

It does not start at 3:00
    It starts at 4:25.
If YOU choose to spend 1 minute and 25 seconds,
listening to that radio-celebrity-guy that’s fine.
But I lost a minute and 25 seconds of my life
that I cannot now get back.

CoselL says Laurinaitis is an above-average NFL linebacker.

Said Brockers was “sensational” and Greg Robinson is “a concern”
and not playing up to his talent-level.

Said Foles is not as good a “thrower” as Bradford,
but “its hard to know what Bradford is because he hasnt played very much.”
    Says Bradford has more “talent.”

Radio guy said Rams WR’s really liked Foles but Cosell said in Philly “it
    was the opposite”

(Reall/? I dont remember reading that anywhere)

    w
    v

IF YOU KNEW ALGEBRA, you would know that the “~” symbol equals exactly a minute and 25 seconds or any other value I wish to give it. This is what separates mankind from crows.

Rams Oline “was up and down” but “wasn’t overpowered”

“Foles is an odd player. There are times he stands and delivers under duress and you think, Wow thats pretty good, but then theres other times when…(i couldnt quite hear what cossell said next. I ‘think’ he said ” he takes sacks and breaks down….” ?

Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson moves closer to ready for Sunday
    By Nick Wagoner

    Trumaine Johnson
The Rams’ Trumaine Johnson must pass one more test to be cleared for return from a concussion.

EARTH CITY, Mo. — The St. Louis Rams didn’t practice Thursday, but that didn’t prevent them from upgrading cornerback Trumaine Johnson (concussion) on the daily injury report.

Because the Rams don’t practice Thursdays but are required to send an injury report, they approximate how much a player would have participated in practice. Last week, that meant a status quo injury report from Wednesday to Thursday. Not this week.

The Rams moved Johnson from limited participant to full participant on Thursday, perhaps the best sign yet that he’s going to be cleared to play this week against the Washington Redskins. Johnson has taken the necessary steps each day this week to clear the hurdles of the concussion protocol and he and coach Jeff Fisher expressed confidence Wednesday that he’d be available.

Johnson was limited Wednesday but did work with the first-team defense in practice. Fisher said then that Johnson had just one more hurdle to clear to play against Washington.

“He’s got one more thing that he has to pass,” Fisher said. “Typically when you’re cleared for practice, then things look pretty good.”

It’s unclear if Johnson has passed that final hurdle but barring a setback it seems that is more of a formality at this point. That would be good news for the Rams as they have only three other cornerbacks on the active roster.

Here’s the full injury report from Thursday:

Did not participate: RB Chase Reynolds (knee), DE Eugene Sims (knee)

    Limited participation: None

Full participation: RB Todd Gurley (knee), RB Tre Mason (hamstring), LB Daren Bates (knee), Johnson (concussion)

Rams update: RBs Mason, Cunningham, Gurley all see time with starters
3 hours ago • By Joe Lyons

The Rams running backs are getting healthy.

On Wednesday at Rams Park, the team’s top three backs _ Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham and Todd Gurley _ all went through full workouts and saw time with the starting offense.

Gurley, the tenth overall pick in last spring’s NFL draft, got in more work with the starters Wednesday and remains on track to see his first game action soon. Gurley, a star from the University of Georgia, is coming off ACL surgery in November.

Mason, a second-year pro who led the Rams in rushing a year ago with 765 yards, also missed the season-opening overtime win over Seattle after suffering a strained hamstring during the preseason. Mason, who turned in a good pre-game workout on Sunday, appears to be ready to go for Sunday’s road game against the Redskins.

With Mason and Gurley out, Cunningham stepped up with a solid effort against the Seahawks, rushing 16 times for 45 yards and hauling in four passes for 77 yards.

The other injured starter, cornerback Trumaine Johnson, who picked off a pass and later suffered a concussion on Sunday, still must get medical clearance to play on Sunday, but coach Jeff Fisher said the fact that he practiced on Wednesday was a good sign.

The Wednesday injury report listed Johnson as limited, with Mason (hamstring), Gurley (knee) and linebacker Daren Bates (knee) as full participants. Running back Chase Reynolds (knee) and defensive end Eugene Sims (knee) did not practice.

    VIPS ON HAND

Former Rams head coach Dick Vermeil and ex-general manager Charley Armey stopped by to watch part of Wednesday’s practice after visiting with Fisher earlier in the afternoon.

Vermeil, who’s in the wine business, sent Fisher three bottles prior to the season opener to wish him good luck this season.

Armey was Rams GM from 2000-2005.

For now, I am happy if our 3 rookies hold their own. I count Robinson as a rookie. I think he is a bigger rookie than Brown or Havenstein. imo

Barnes played better than expected, except for the bad snap.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/melvin-white?id=2539251
    CB
    Melvin White

    Grade
    59.6

    6’1″
    Height
    203LBS.
    Weight

    Overview

White’s cornerback partner, Dwight Bentley, was drafted by Detroit in the third round of the 2012 draft. While White might not Bentley’s sub 4.4 4 speed, his legitimate six-foot-plus build and physicality makes him an effective zone corner for the Ragin’ Cajuns – and an intriguing prospect for teams looking for length on the outside, or even at free safety.

The Texas high school receiver and quarterback (he switched to running the offense as a senior) redshirted in 2008 to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements, then played 12 games in his freshman and sophomore seasons (totaling 31 tackles and two pass break-ups) while starting one game each year. He also returned a fumble 93 yards for a score against Ole Miss in 2010. White started all 13 games at cornerback in 2011, earning honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors by making 64 tackles, 8.5 for loss, intercepting two passes and breaking up seven others. in 2012, White had 10 pass breakups and 60 total tackles.
At Louisiana-Lafayette’s pro day, White ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 and 4.62 seconds and recorded a 32-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He completed the short shuttle drill in 4.53 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.36 seconds. White also recorded 12 strength lifts. He worked out as a cornerback with a notation that his best position is probably safety.
    Analysis
Strengths White has plus size and physicality for the position. His height and vertical make him a strong jump-ball defender. When playing off, he can close on receivers quickly after the catch and lay the wood or wrap them up with his excellent length. Willing to pop into the backfield (or crash down inside when uncovered) to stop the run or bubble screens. A move to free safety is possible due to his size and tackling ability.
Weaknesses Will be considered a corner/safety ‘tweener by some NFL teams because of lean build and lack of fluidity in his backpedal and overall movement. Might not have the flexibility and foot quickness to trail quicker receivers off the line and to stick on double-moves. His recovery speed is also lacking once his feet stop in coverage. Needs to show he can also use his hands to effectively press, as well as beat receiver blocks outside and stick in coverage against stronger competition.
    NFL Comparison Richard Sherman
Bottom Line White looks to join cornerback partner Dwight Bentley (picked in the third round by Detroit last April) in the NFL, though his tall, lean frame is much different than that of his teammate’s. He could project to safety, but teams relying on press or zone coverage might like his upside outside if he continues to improve as a second-year starter (8.5 tackles for loss, seven pass break-ups) in 2012.
