Yikes, Mason is dropping down the depth chart? Don’t fumble, Trey.

Colin Kaepernick Contract: San Francisco 49ers Can Save $100 Million If They Release QuarterbackThings just keep getting worse for the San Francisco 49ers.
Now 2-6, the 49ers have chosen to bench their “franchise quarterback” Colin Kaepernick in exchange for former first-round draft pick Blaine Gabbert. The 49ers have lost six of their last seven games, and any hopes of making the playoffs have disappeared. With the recent trade of veteran tight end Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos, it’s pretty obvious the 49ers are rebuilding.
Now all eyes are on owner Jed York and general manager Trent Baalke. They have a massive decision to make regarding Kaepernick’s contract.
Last year Kaepernick signed a contract with the 49ers worth up to $126 million and more than $60 million in guaranteed money. But, it’s not that simple. You’ve got to read the fine print. Unfortunately for Kaepernick (and his agent), it looks like he will make less than $30 million. So how is this? How can Kaepenick’s “record contract” become so little than what we all originally thought?
Kaepernick’s contract is very team friendly and incentive based with three huge factors. If Kaepernick doesn’t lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl or make first or second team All Pro, his salary drops $2 million each year. The third aspect in the contract also includes that Kaepernick must take at least 80 percent of the snaps en route to a 49ers Super Bowl appearance. With the way Kaepernick and the 49ers are playing, it doesn’t like he’s getting the full max deal.
So what do all these numbers mean?
It means that Kaepernick’s potential $126 million contract could decrease by $100 million because they can cut him before April 1 and save a massive amount of money. If the 49ers cut Kaepernick by April 1, they will save more than $9 million in salary cap space next season, and they wouldn’t have to pay the remainder of his contract. To make things even worse for Kaepernick, if the 49ers cut him before April 1, that means they wouldn’t even have to pay his injury clause in the contract. It’s a tough situation for Kaepernick, but it’s the reality of the NFL business.
If the 49ers choose to cut Kaepernick this offseason that means he would have made roughly $10 million last season, $9 million this season (including $2 million reduction), and a $7 million signing bonus. In conclusion, that means Kaepernick would only get $26 million of that $126 million contract.
Kaepernick has six touchdown and five interceptions this season with a 59.3 completion percentage. Now benched for a first round draft bust, it’s safe to say he won’t be selected to the All Pro team. Kaepernick has looked completely lost without Jim Harbaugh, and he’s not running nearly as effective as he used to.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. EDT. Some NFL experts have noted that the Philadelphia Eagles would make a good fit because of the Chip Kelly offense, but it’s unlikely Kaepernick will get dealt.

Early Draft Landscape
No matter what the Rams do, they should end up with 3 really good players with their first 3 picks. It is likely that they get another good player in the 3rd and a decent WR in the 4th. If you want a possible #1 WR, you need to take him in the first, but there isn’t a Cooper or Watkins in this draft. imo
AgamemnonParticipantlol
Believe it or not they would win a lot of games that way.
Is the value in this draft in the 2nd round? Or to put that another way, is there a lot of value in the 2nd round?
Cause if so, if it were me, I would trade down.
.
I think that you might have about 50 really good players, red chip or close to red chip. Which means you can get good players at a lot of different positions or high second round draft choices this year can be more valuable than most other years.
As far as trading down, that depends on how the draft unfolds more than its landscape. imo
Cause, somebody has to be willing to trade up.

AgamemnonParticipantI think it is a good thing we drafted all those offensive linemen. I even wouldn’t mind Battle starting at LT. I think his pass pro is better than Robinson’s at this point. I think Donnal is their second best RT. Reynolds is best at LG and he can baby sit GR. If Stanley drops in the draft, I would be tempted to draft him. He would have been the best OT in last year’s draft.
AgamemnonParticipantSegment 2 – Greg Cosell 11/20/15
Friday, November 20, 2015 12:14 PMRams start @5:00. Foles was missing too many routine throws. Foles has been a disappointment. Robinson has not played well. He never even did a basic ‘kick slide’ at Auburn.
Segment 2 – Jim Miller 11/20/15
Friday, November 20, 2015 3:26 PMRams start @3:00. Foles is not confident in his reads. This offense is new to him.
AgamemnonParticipant
AgamemnonParticipanthe has to call protections and scheme against the blitz pre-snap, he has to get used to sight adjustments with the WRs, and he has to drop back a lot from center. My understanding is that most if not all of that is new.
That is what I think is the main reason. The other things just makes it worse. I think Mannion is ahead of him on this and most other things, but I don’t think it helps if we put Mannion out there, but it might not hurt. I am ready to call out some players if they don’t perform.

AgamemnonParticipantTo be clear on Nick Foles: he has $7.75M guaranteed left from St. Louis. His 2016 $6M roster bonus became fully guaranteed on August 15.

Yeah I just wrote about this in another thread without seeing this first.
Maybe interesting, maybe Balzer’s wrong.
Typically, roster bonuses are not guaranteed. So, if people are saying it is, then there is probably a reason that they are saying that. I don’t think it is just something that people got wrong or is coming from an agent. Although there is some indication that it might not be guaranteed.

AgamemnonParticipant
AgamemnonParticipant
AgamemnonParticipantwell. at least some of the top qbs will be coming into play? or will they be gone by the tenth pick?
Chance that one of the top 3 is there past ten and we take him? 10%
Chance that we take a QB in the 2cd round? 40%
Chance that we take a QB anywhere in the draft? 60%
I couldn’t get Miss Cleo on the phone, but I did get her cat.

Foles has a $6 million roster bonus due next March that already is guaranteed. in addition, $2 million worth of unamortized signing bonus would count against the cap if he’s cut. So it sure doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

AgamemnonParticipantIt looks to me like 2014 is the exception or outlier , Chip Kelly’s offense before the rest of the NFL caught. Foles never was that guy. imo
I think you’re thinking of 2013.
2014 is more the guy I would expect if he rights himself.
I agree that 2013 is the outlier.
Your right, I meant 2013. I agree with that.
AgamemnonParticipantMany people who were against the trade said there were flaws with Foles’ game, but there was nothing that could have predicted this complete futility.
Foles as a rookie for Reid. Why is he worse now?
It would be interesting to find out how much shotgun he played in for Reid. I believe he was all shotgun in college and certainly was all shotgun with Kelly.
So I think it’s telling that Fisher in effect says he still has to learn the offense.
I don’t think he means the playbook. I think he means executing the offense in real time with real bullets while dropping back from center.
A lot of that was new to him. To me he looked unconfident and overwhelmed. If he gets back to his Philly 2014 level he will be of course better than he was in his last 5 games. But that again may be rhythm, feeling comfortable, executing etc. while dropping back from center. ‘

LMU93 — if season ended todayRams would have the 14th, 43rd and 44th overall picks in the top two rounds.
————————–If we don’t win a couple a games, we will probably be picking ~10.
AgamemnonParticipantI dunno, but the vast majority of those hi-lites
involved a nice clean pocket or at most
one pass-rusher attacking from one edge,
and Nick could easily glide away from the rusher.w

Those were just highligths. He was sacked 20 times in 7 games. That is about twice what he got this year.
