AgamemnonParticipantBelieve it or not, Rams’ offense has been worse recently
3hNick Wagoner, ESPN Staff Writer
EARTH CITY, Mo. — To be sure, new St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Rob Boras faces an uphill battle in taking over an abysmal offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in many categories.
Boras is charged with the unenviable task of helping an offense that’s consistently failed to move the ball, let alone score points.
Through 12 games, the 2015 Rams rank 31st in yards per game (296.3) and offensive points per game (14.4), 32nd in passing yards per game (178.0), third-down conversion rate (24.5 percent) and first downs (175), and tied for 30th in offensive touchdowns (18).
Quarterback Nick Foles hasn’t played as well as the Rams hoped he would. AP Photo/L.G. PattersonBut as difficult as Boras’ job is in the final four games, it’s amazing to think this isn’t even the worst Rams offense of the past eight years. It’s probably not even second-worst, and might not even make the medal stand.
An offense that once earned the “Greatest Show on Turf” moniker has fallen so far. Here’s a look at the current offense and some others of recent vintage that have actually been worse.
* Perhaps the worst offense since the Rams moved to St. Louis in 1995 was the 2009 group. They finished 29th in yards per game (279.4), 28th in passing yards per game (167.8) and third-down conversion rate (32.3 percent), and last in offensive points per game (10.5). Although some of those rankings are better than the current ones, the overall output is still worse in every category except third-down conversion rate.
* Coming in a close second to the 2009 offense is the 2011 unit. They were 31st in yards per game (283.6), 30th in passing yards per game (179.4), and last in third-down conversion rate (28.1 percent) and offensive points per game (10.9).
* Perhaps the best comparison, at least in terms of numbers, for this year’s offense is the 2008 Rams. That group finished 29th in offensive points per game (14.1), 27th in total yards (287.2), 26th in passing yards per game (184.2), and 29th in third-down conversion rate (31.9 percent).
In going back through the numbers since the Rams’ last .500 season in 2006, the common thread has been an anemic offense that ranks in the bottom third of the league in most major categories. Perhaps that shouldn’t be a surprise for a team that hasn’t had good quarterback play since Marc Bulger was healthy, features an offensive line that seems to need an overhaul every offseason, and has lacked a No. 1 wideout who can consistently create separation since Torry Holt was in his prime.
That isn’t to say the Rams need to ignore the defense moving forward, or that the offense will ever get back to the “Greatest Show” days, but there’s no doubt that for this franchise to return to prominence, the offense must once again become a priority.
AgamemnonParticipantWhat if Mannion is not the man ?
What if he dont pan out?w
vI am drafting another QB anyway and maybe Foles can be saved? Gabbert in SF got saved. Or just keep looking until you find one. That is what Seattle did.
Imagine how much smarter Fisher and Cignetti would be if Foles had worked out. 😉

AgamemnonParticipantFor me, the offensive line got hurt. They will be healthy next year.
I think Mannion will be ready next year.
I am drafting some new and BETTER WRs and TEs and an extra QB. Along the way, I will add a DE and maybe a CB. It just depends on how the draft plays out.
As long as Linehan isn’t the HC, I am not worried about coaching either.

AgamemnonParticipantThe draft order is based on record, and then overall strength of schedule. If those are the same, conference record then division record are used. If all of that is equal, a coin flip takes place at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
The strength of schedule below uses full-season schedules.
Here is the current 2016 NFL Draft order:
1. Cleveland Browns: 2-10 (.531 strength of schedule)
2. Tennessee Titans: 3-9 (.495 SOS)
3. San Diego Chargers: 3-9 (.526 SOS)
4. Jacksonville Jaguars: 4-8 (.484 SOS)
5. Baltimore Ravens: 4-8 (.505 SOS)

7. San Francisco 49ers: 4-8 (.526 SOS – 3-7 in conference, 0-5 in division)
8. Dallas Cowboys: 4-8 (.526 SOS – 3-7 in conference, 3-2 in division)
9. Detroit Lions: 4-8 (.526 SOS – 3-5 in conference, 2-3 in division)
10. St. Louis Rams: 4-8 (.526 SOS – 3-5 in conference, 3-1 in division)
11. Miami Dolphins: 5-7 (.474 SOS)

This stuff is figured differently at different places. GBN for example does this: Note: Opponents’ W-L % is for all 16 opponents over the season. Some places just do it up to the current game.

AgamemnonParticipant(On if Bailey came off the suspended list)
“He did. We’re working right now with the league. We’re probably going to put him on NFI, a non-football injury, since that’s what it is. We’ll take care of Sted – that’s our intention. Yeah, he comes off, he’s eligible to play. By no means is he in any kind of condition to play right now.”(On Bailey’s status)
“He’s doing better. He’s doing better, yeah. Thanks for asking. It puts a smile on my face when I get to think about him and where he’s at right now.”(On if there could be any long range issues beyond this season for Bailey)
“Are you asking is there a potential that he doesn’t return to play? Yes, there is that potential. We don’t know. It is just going to take some time.”(On if those issues are health related for Bailey’s return)
“Yes, from a health standpoint, there’s a chance that he doesn’t play. However, based on what he’s done over the last 10 days, he may surprise everybody.”(On if Bailey is making good progress in his recovery)
“Yes.”This is from Fisher’s press conference. http://www.stlouisrams.com/videos/videos/Jeff-Fisher-Press-Conference—127/bb06d09b-1d80-4c1a-b593-39ecfff5a415

We have a different one now.

AgamemnonParticipantI am not a big fan of Fisher or Williams or Bernie. But most of the reasons for firing Fisher remind me of of Bogus Burn the Witch stuff.
Well you said “most” of the reasons are bogus — what are the reasons that
are not bogus?w
vLet’s start with, if you were Fisher’s lawyer, which arguments would you object too?
All of them, your Honor.

AgamemnonParticipantThe offensive line had no sacks and no penalties against Arizona. The defensive line was not off sides.
Well yeah they had a couple of false starts…were those not on linemen? Were they all on TE/WRs?
.
Guess who? Cook and Britt.

I would have Hackenburg as my 4th. I understand that people have soured due to his numbers, but I can counter that pretty easily having watched him since his first game.
He committed and went to PSU for O Brien to be tutored by a pro QB coach .. who then abandoned him to the ultra conservative running coach Franklin … that’s when A Robinson bolted for the NFL too. J James bolted too. He won’t stay in school, he’s got Elway level talent and a coach that doesn’t care about QBs.
His issues, his mechanics issues, are on short throws and all based on footwork. It’s an easy fix for any coach that works with QBs at all, which Franklin doesn’t.
The only thing I don’t know about is his attitude. I have no idea how cohesive the team is, or how his coach lets him lead, but that would be my only question about him, and I’d have him no lower than 15. He has the mentality of a starting NFL QB, and the lower he gets drafted, the bigger the chip on his shoulder is going to be.
Of course he could be a jerk, too. Dunno.
I think Lynch and Wentz need a year, and Hackenburg likely too at least a half year.
I have no idea what happens to Foles … odds are it depends on the coaching situation.
But I have
Goff
Cook
Hackenburg
Lynch
Wentzthen Sudfeld a strong 6th.
Goff and Cook will come out ready to play football. Goff has the best pocket presence besides maybe Luck Ive seen in college. Cook is a gamer. Both are pro offense in tough divisions.
Another poster’s take on the QBs.
I like Cook. It is fine if they pick someone else.
I have Mannion, so I am OK no matter what. 😉
