Veteran tight end Zach Miller hasn’t found a new home thus far in free agency, but he has now set up his first reported visit. Miller has scheduled a meeting with the Rams on Sunday, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com (Twitter link).Zach Miller (Nebraska-Omaha)
Miller, who spent the 2015 season with the Bears, could still return to Chicago, as reports indicated that the two sides had resumed negotiations on Tuesday night — the club is looking to trade Martellus Bennett, so Miller, if re-signed, could take over as the Bears’ No. 1 tight end.. But the Rams would make a lot of sense for Miller, especially after the club released fellow tight Jared Cook earlier this month. Los Angeles still has Lance Kendricks on the roster, but the team doesn’t have a lot of other reliable receiving options, so Miller could add another dynamic in the passing game.
Not to be confused for former Pro Bowler Zach Miller, who spent time with the Raiders and Seahawks, this Zach Miller had an improbable comeback to the NFL in 2015 after not having appeared in a game since the 2011 season due to various injuries. The former sixth-round pick, who came into the season having recorded 45 career receptions, set new career highs by grabbing 34 balls for 439 yards and five touchdowns in 2015.
The 31-year-old Miller isn’t a great run-blocker, though, and neither is Kendricks, and with the Rams set up to field a run-based offense led by Todd Gurley, Los Angeles might look to find a tight end who could be an asset in that part of the game, especially given that its offensive line ranked in the bottom-third of the league in adjusted line yards in 2015. Cook, for all his faults, was a top-15 run-blocking tight end last season, per Pro Football Focus.
Earlier this offseason, Miller was said to be seeking $5MM annually, and while that figure may seem high, it could be a bit more palatable now that Dwayne Allen, for example, was able to score $7MM per year. Miller is the best tight end remaining on the free agent market, as Antonio Gates, Coby Fleener, Allen, and Ladarius Green have all signed new contracts.

2015 team: Chicago BearsMiller is an interesting case — he was drafted in 2009 but to this point has only logged 1109 career snaps, and in 2015, he saw his first regular season playing time since 2011. He enjoyed a solid year in Chicago, posting the seventh-highest receiving grade among TEs while catching 81 percent of passes thrown his way and forcing 11 missed tackles – both figures ranked among the top ten at the position. Miller was particularly great late in the year with 18 of his 34 catches coming during the three-game stretch from Week 14 to 16. It will be interesting to see what happens given that he’s over 30 years old with a somewhat lackluster career resume and last season graded negatively as a run blocker. Teams could see his low mileage as a positive trait, however, and based on his play in 2015, Miller can definitely contribute in the passing game.

Zach Miller, Chicago Bears

It took six years for the potential of a former collegiate quarterback to finally come to fruition in the NFL, but Miller burst on the scene late in the 2015 season. When he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he billed himself as a “poor man’s Tim Tebow,” but his athleticism and raw abilities never developed and injuries ended his career with the team that drafted him.
After missing 12 games in 2011 and the entire 2012 season, Miller was waived from the Jaguars injured reserve, spent the 2013 season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad and the 2014 season on the Chicago Bears injured reserve. But four years after his last NFL appearance, Miller finally saw the field for Chicago and made an impact, quickly developing a rapport with Jay Cutler.
He caught a team-high five touchdown passes on the year, including a one-handed game winner in a Monday Night Football game against the San Diego Chargers. At age 31, Miller’s lengthy injury history makes him a risky buy, but he displayed his potential as an impact player in 2015 and could be a cheap addition for an offense looking for playmakers.

AgamemnonParticipantTight end Zach Miller scheduled to visit Rams
10:36 PM ETJeff DickersonESPN Staff Writer
Bears free-agent tight end Zach Miller is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Rams, per a league source.
Miller caught five passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns in a memorable performance against the Rams last November in the Edward Jones Dome.
Miller has familiarity with several members of the Rams’ coaching staff. Los Angeles hired former Bears wide receivers coach Mike Groh to be its passing game coordinator/receivers coach, while Rams offensive coordinator Rob Boras, used to coach tight ends in Jacksonville.
Prior to his arrival in Chicago, Miller saw game action with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2009 to 2011.
Healthy for virtually the first time since 2010, Miller emerged as a key playmaker on offense last year with 34 receptions for 439 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (14 starts).
All five of Miller’s touchdowns occurred in the final eight games he played. His 87-yard touchdown reception in Game 9 at St. Louis is the second-longest reception ever by a Bears tight end and tied for the seventh-longest overall in franchise history.
Miller also made one of the top plays of the season when he hauled in a game-winning, 25-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter at San Diego.
The Bears find themselves thin at tight end, with the club reportedly attempting to trade starter Martellus Bennett, who boycotted the entire voluntary portion of last year’s offseason program over a contract dispute. Chicago hosted veteran free agent Jermaine Gresham on a visit to Halas Hall earlier in the week, but Gresham left without signing a contract.

AgamemnonParticipantWhere will Zach Miller sign in 2016 NFL free agency?
Non-Chicago Bears fans might not be familiar with the name Zach Miller, so here’s everything you need to know about the 31-year-old tight end in two video clips: this OBJ-esque catch and this 87-yard embarrassment of the team formerly known as the St. Louis Rams. To be fair, viewing those two clips alone would make the average person think Zach Miller is the greatest tight end since Gronk, which is clearly not the case considering those same two clips are about the only two highlights of what has been an otherwise forgettable NFL career.
Though Miller is now entering his seventh year as a pro, he’s only seen actual game action in four of those years, and in none of them has he played a full 16-game regular season slate. So why should we even care about him as a free agent?
Two reasons. One: he plays at a position that’s hard to find sustainable talent at, and he actually had a decent season in 2015. And two: he was one of the few pleasant surprises and playmakers on an otherwise-horrid Bears team last season.
VitalsContract comparison
Miller just completed a one-year deal that paid him $660,000. While he didn’t set the league on fire, he definitely outplayed his contract and is deserving of a longer deal and pay bump.
Brent Celek of the Philadelphia Eagles is the perfect role model for what Miller should look for in a new contract; both players are past their prime (each is 31) yet still effective on the field, and neither is the top player at their position on their own team (Martellus Bennett is the more talented Bears tight end; Zach Ertz has more upside on the Eagles).
Regardless, Celek just inked a three-year extension with Philly in January that will pay him $13 million. Expect Miller and his agent to look for something similar.
Estimate: 2 years/$11 million/$5 million guaranteed

znModeratorYou know that thing where some links turn into a box that adverts the source?
Some people don’t mind it in their posts when they post, some do.
YOu can get rid of it though if you don’t. The link just has to be on the same line with some text. (For example, I write “link”).

That of course is up to the poster, which one they would rather do or if they care at all either way

Some don’t like PFF’s scoring, but Zach Miller graded #8 for all TE’s out of 67. Cook graded at 53 and Kendricks at 56. Harkey was graded # 7 out of 22 FB’s, but Miller had an overall score over 15 points higher in total over Harkey, although his run blocking is markedly worse. Anyway, big upgrade over Cook.

The #Bears agreed to terms with TE Zach Miller on a 2-year deal worth $6M, source said. $2M more in incentives. He stays where he broke out -
