Been saying it for years, but QB is worst coached position in NFL – QB coaches want to become OCs & OCs want to become HCs, so they focus on scheme & very few spend time on technique/fundamentals/How-To-Watch-Film of teaching/developing QBs.

    from 11 personnel podcast

it won’t be hard for Rams to get under the cap

“with maybe three or four moves that are fairly reasonable they can get themselves where they need to be”. They mentioned restructuring donald, which the Rams opted not to do last year because they wanted to wait for an emergency (again showing how smart our front office is), extend Kupp one year (which is why his deal was three years and not four), resturcure Ramsey, and that’ll basically put us under the cap. Everything after that is pure cap space.”

Sean McVay on Jared Goff: “The unfair narrative has been that some of our decrease in production is exclusively on the quarterback. Thatā€™s not true at all.”

ā€œFootball is the ultimate team sport. That quarterback position is vital to your success, but itā€™s not exclusively the reason for or the reason not,ā€ he said. ā€œThere is an element that absolutely, itā€™s about the 10 around him. itā€™s about what kind of things are we doing to put our players in the most favorable spots? And when you go back and you watch and thereā€™s a lot of layers to every snap and every single play and itā€™s not exclusive to the quarterback. Thereā€™s a lot of times when Iā€™m looking back and saying, ā€˜Man, Iā€™ve got to do a better job.ā€™ And then thereā€™s some where weā€™ve got to execute, whether up front, tight ends, receivers, running backs or the quarterback. Thatā€™s what makes football such a unique game.ā€

Sean McVay says he wishes he had been a better communicator with Jared Goff “in those real-time situations,” particularly in the middle of games.

“I don’t know that a lot changed,” Sean McVay says when asked what’s changed since the Rams gave Jared Goff an extension.

Sean McVay, when asked about Jared Goff, says he provided a lot of good things and leadership since he arrived in LA as coach in 2017. McVay says he wants to focus on the things that Goff did well and expresses appreciation for that.

“There are a lot of things that when I self reflect that I wish was better for him,” Sean McVay says about Jared Goff and their time together. “We have had good conversations that are healthy.”

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Sean McVay called Cam Akers an ā€œevery down backā€ so my one (1) ā€œhot takeā€ of the offseason, that Akers will be in a lead back role who gets the bulk of the carries with some complement from a couple other guys in 2021, is holding up for now.

The Rams entered the offseason viewing Austin Blythe – and this is important – AND the center position in general to be a priority re. allocation of resources, and particularly in free agency. McVay had some high praise for Blythe just now as well, FWIW.

McVay just confirmed this – says Oā€™Connell will also get more responsibility this year and it was imperative to McVay that the Rams keep him in-house.

Sean McVay confirms reports that Kevin O’Connell was blocked from interviewing for OC position w/ another team:

“Kevin’s a great coach. He is our offensive coordinator. He has a huge say and a huge influence on how we want to operate, and I think even more so moving forward.”

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Sean McVay once again emphasized the Ramsā€™ need to create explosive plays next season because 12-to-15-play drives arenā€™t sustainable

Michael Brockers ended last season with the 4th highest tackling grade on the #Rams defense, though his price tag may leave him a potential cut candidate for 2021

I completely agree with what an NFL Defensive Coordinator just told me:

ā€œIn todayā€™s NFL, free safety is the position that ALL coaches on both sides of the ball understand how critical is to have… yet too many GMs donā€™t… until they donā€™t have one.ā€
