They’ll have some success the next 10 games against lesser defenses. For example the Falcons defense is awful. Not saying the Rams are guaranteed to win… But honestly, Atlanta’s defense might be 2nd worst only to Miami. Seriously. QBs have a 119.2 QB rating against them. That’s almost 30 points higher than what the Rams are giving up. And Atlanta has 5 sacks in 6 games.
But games like Chicago and @SF are likely to be pretty ugly offensively. They are what they are. Allen and Noteboom were put in there for what they’ll become not what they’ll be through 6 games. But still… Whitworth has declined noticeably and Havenstein has had a poor year so far and part of why the Rams felt they could have inexperience at C and LG was thinking they had a top tier OT duo. And right now they don’t.
The offense simply can’t function properly as is. Defenses like SF are not worried about the deep ball because they know there’s no way that Rams’ OL can hold up to allow those plays to happen. It’s why Cooks has been largely invisible. Goff may not have been sacked a lot yesterday but it was jail break after jail break which forced all those short throws.

the defense came to play, held the niners to just 20 points (below the league average), to just 4.4 yards per play (well below the league average), despite defending a short field on over half of their drives (niners 40 or closer), despite being out there all day because the offense couldn’t get a single thing going… the defense did more than enough, did their job in spades, the offense just failed miserably, epically, it was the super bowl all over again.
usually i’m not at all impressed with the rams defense, have been critical of it dating back to the start of last season, their herculean effort during the postseason gave me some hope heading into this season, but it’s been a big disappointment so far, altho i believe in giving credit where credit is due, they did their job today, i’ll take allowing 20 offensive points per game, every day of the week and twice on sundays, especially against a team that’s been putting up a lot of points, if they could swing that over the course of a season they would be a top 8 defense in offensive points allowed.
October 14, 2019 at 3:54 pm #106664znModeratorPFF Grades by OL:
Andrew Whitworth – 70.0
Joseph Noteboom – 37.4
Brian Allen – 52.7
Austin Blythe – 41.0
Rob Havenstein – 52.8Rodger Saffold – 68.1
Damn shame. Saffold would've been a massive piece on this OL, would allow you to slide the OL right often like they did in '18.

The @49ers are for real—certainly are on defense. Here’s their formula
-win first down with a dominant DL and safe coverage
-get you to 3rd down and long & let DL ATTACK!Brace yourself
The last 2 weeks teams are 1-24 on 3rd/4th down against them.
1-24

Bryce Hager was healthy yesterday, but he didn’t play a single snap on defense. Troy Reeder is the starter now, it seemsCameron DaSilva@camdasilva

This feeling is new for some, but others know what it takes to get back on track.“The outside is going to pummel us, and rightfully so,” Weddle said. “We haven’t played good. But it takes just one game, getting back to the basics.”

Promise this will be my only salt-in-wound tweet…Yesterday was the first time in 3 years under McVay’s leadership — including postseason — that the #LARams won the turnover battle and lost the game.
(As always, excluding Week 17, 2017 vs SF)

The Rams put together one of the worst performances ever on 3rd/4th down Sunday, going a combined 0-for-13My wish is to sign Cedric Ogbuehi from the Jags in the offseason, even though he is their LT, but I’d sign him to play LG, then move Noteboom to RG. I still believe Brian Allen will be better next year, due to he is playing his first year at Center, & I kind of expected he would struggle, but hoped the Guard play would be better though. I do feel moving Noteboom to the right side could help. If a miracle happens & we sign Cedric Ogbuehi. The let David Edwards & Bobby Evans battle it out for the starting LT spot next year. That is what I would be thinking.

The #LARams have five games against teams with a combined record of 7-21-2.They have five other games against teams with a combined record of 20-8.
They could certainly go 5-0 against the first group.
They would only need to go 2-3 against the latter to hit 10 wins.

A month ago, many folks believed that the Rams’ offensive line would make or break the season.I think we have our answer. There’s still time to turn it around, but to date, the line has been the Rams’ biggest problem, and that falls on management.
J.B. Long@JB_Long
A note on the #LARams next opponent. Yes, the Falcons are in a world of hurt at 1-5, but here’s the list of QBs with 300 yards passing in each of a team’s first 6 games:Steve Young (1998)
Kurt Warner (2000)
Matt Ryan (2019)Completely different challenge than SF.

McVay leaving the door open to rookie David Edwards joining the #LARams starting lineup to help replace LG Joe Noteboom (ACL/MCL). Not committing to Demby taking over in Week 7. Also mentioning looking externally for OL depth.October 15, 2019 at 11:17 am #106708znModerator#LARams LB Cory Littleton is ranked T-4th in the league among all defenders in total tackles so far this season

They weren’t a one season wonder. They won 24 games the last two seasons under Sean McVay in the regular season. Have they played well this year? No, inconsistent but definitively not “ one season wonders “October 15, 2019 at 7:04 pm #106750znModeratorGeoff Schwartz@geoffschwartz
Trent Williams has taken over the Joe Thomas trade deadline role. Every team with a need at left tackle is trading for him.October 15, 2019 at 8:26 pm #106762znModeratorVincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
Today’s moves really jack up the urgency level of these next two games for #Rams. If they can get to the bye week 5-3, with Clay Matthews coming back and Jalen Ramsey settling in, they’d have more then enough time to make a big runOctober 15, 2019 at 8:27 pm #106763znModeratortrey wingo@wingoz
Remember when the trade deadline was a big nothing in the NFL?October 16, 2019 at 1:25 am #106778znModeratorJ.B. Long@JB_Long
As newsworthy as today has been for the #LARams secondary, fingers crossed for John Johnson news tomorrow.Depending on MRI, second opinion he was seeking, hopeful the team won’t have another roster spot to fill this week (in addition to Talib’s).
Nick Wagoner@nwagoner
my biggest takeaway when watching Rams this year: roster depth is lacking. Lots of pressure on scouts to find mid to late-round gems and staff to develop those guys quickly. Also requires those stars to stay healthy and be at max capacity to offset/cover weaknesses.October 16, 2019 at 1:25 am #106779znModerator==
I asked it last year, and I will again right now…Are the Rams using a different bank than the rest of the league??? #JalenRamsey pic.twitter.com/orDRUeKqh8

“Shifting Narrative”: ‘18 #Rams = the coach everyone wanted, offense that couldn’t be stopped, greatest defensive player in league, play or two away from SB trophy, set up for years of success.
‘19 #Rams = QB sucks, RB is overpaid, defense not good enough, impending cap doom😂October 16, 2019 at 9:22 am #106782InvaderRamModeratorYesterday was the first time in 3 years under McVay’s leadership — including postseason — that the #LARams won the turnover battle and lost the game.
