Cam Akers with some nice contact balance…Shouldn’t come as much of a surprise – Per Pro Football Focus, 904 of Akers’ 1,144 rushing yards (79 percent) at Florida State last season occurred after contact.August 23, 2020 at 1:40 pm #119861znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue

The Rams were scheduled to practice today but now will not; however team meetings etc. are still taking place and we will be on with Sean McVay and some players in the afternoon.==
The #Rams just said they've canceled the practice scheduled for 3:50 today. No indication right now that it's related to the NFL's trouble with COVID-19 testing, addressed in a league statement this morning: pic.twitter.com/3G72xYvCwq

My optimism about Noteboom as a starting guard comes from Kromer
after Noteboom went down in SF, i heard Kromer talking and he sounded really bummed. Said the light was really coming on for him and was devastated he got hurt when he did.
it did not sound contrived or pumping up an injured player. it sounded sincere.
kromer knows what a great offensive line looks like and it really sounded like Noteboom was part of what he was trying to build.
so, i am optimistic about Noteboom’s chances to be a big part of the line this year.

Rams WR Van Jefferson said he wore No. 2 in high school because he liked watching Robert Woods at USC.Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams WR Van Jefferson attributes learning the entire offense/not just his own role to advice from team’s veteran receivers:“I think when I came in, all of those guys told me ‘learn all of those positions so they can just throw you in there at any position when they need you.'”

Jared Goff continued to outperform in the red zone [in 2019]. His 112.0 rating in that area trailed only MVP Lamar Jackson among qualifying passers, according to Sharp Football. Goff delivered 18 touchdowns (plus two rushing scores) without an interception.

Like Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, Jefferson can play every wide receiver position, which is extremely important in the eyes of Sean McVay. The coach was asked about the possibility of Jefferson starting this year, and his response was largely about the rookie’s versatility.
“Yeah, I think you’re just looking at how comfortable he gets at moving around in the offense. You know, we’ve got guys we’ve got X and Z and F positions, but really, we want to be able to have guys that are versatile that can play all over the formation. And I think that’s one of the things we liked so much about Van is he can certainly win isolations outside, he can work inside on option routes where he understands how to work leverages and recognize coverage contours,” McVay said. “So, he’s a really good football player. He’s continuing to do a great job of just learning every single day from Coach ‘Yarbs’ (wide receivers coach Eric Yarber), (assistant wide receivers coach) Zac Robinson. And you can see, kind of like what we’ve talked about ever since we drafted him, he’s got a knack for the game. Football just makes sense to him. He’s got that pedigree, you know, when you look at the history of the success that his dad had as a player and now he’s coaching. And when you’re around Van, that’s what it feels like. You know, it feels like he came from that football pedigree and he sure is talented.”

Despite the narrative, safeties are increasingly considered marquee players on defense. Controlling the MOF is one of the top priorities on defense. Safeties w/cover skills, versatility and solid tackling ability in and around the box are game changers.==

One way you can tell if the football team/organization has issues is when both sides, coaching and personnel, are constantly blaming each other for the lack of success on the field as opposed to working together to address issues that both sides may have to improve.August 25, 2020 at 11:14 am #119996znModeratoron Terrell Lewis
Since arriving at practices, Lewis has joined an outside linebacker rotation that includes projected starters Samson Ebukam and Leonard Floyd, as well as Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Natrez Patrick and Jachai Polite.
“He’s everything and then some more,” Ebukam said about Lewis, emphasizing his length and other physical attributes.
“He’s looked good the last three days in practice and has got a long way to go,” McVay added. “But you definitely see the flashes.”

No fans will be allowed at SoFi Stadium for Rams and Chargers games “until further notice”Budda Baker probably just drove up John Johnson’s price tag, which only emphasizes the value of having two good rookie safeties on the roster
Jalen Banks@JalenBanksy
I couldn’t imagine the Rams paying for two big secondary contracts to begin with – probably going to be hearing a lot of Burgess and Fuller news this year from the team.Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Moment of the day: Jalen Ramsey gets an end zone pick; entire defense, screaming the whole time, blocks for him as he runs it back 100 yards…at the opposite end zone, he flips it to Aaron Donald who, naturally, is right behind him – and Donald flips into the end zone.Is Josh Reynolds slipping with Van Jefferson rising? Or splitting time equally?
Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
I don’t think he’s slipping at all – he still has such an advantage of having spent time in the system and they will be used in different ways. Josh took a little more of a vet day today and Van needs the reps because they are onboarding him VERY quickly.Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
SJD looks awesome. Samson has a great speed-rush going to complement Leonard Floyd on the other side. Those are the two who really stand out to me at the moment. If Henderson is healthy, I predict a fairly even split between him and Akers at first, with Malcom Brown being sort of in a power role and especially in short-yardage…by the end of the season I think Akers will have more touches than DH, though, and look to both to get plenty of looks in the passing game.
I saw more urgency with the offense than I had last week. My guess is that they got quite the talking-to after the scrimmage on Saturday. Today there were still defensive plays made, but the offense looked sharper and sleeker. I really liked what I saw today because it moved really efficiently! I had one “holy crap” moment when Woods went across the middle twice, and I like how involved Jefferson has been the last couple of days. I haven’t seen a receiving corps with this kind of potential. Crazy underrated.
Y’all, this defense is badass. I’m constantly having “holy crap” moments haha. They are going to be very good.
I haven’t seen a defense as good as this Rams defense in practice in…well, I haven’t seen one. I think the defense as a whole – and yes including safeties – is going to be VERY productive. The scheme is really smart and the guys can play really fast and physically. I don’t necessarily think some of these picks have been on Goff, but it’s tougher to stay clean in camp when the defense knows what is coming.

11 Personnel podcast notes
From Jourdan R. and Rich H. I believe this was recorded day before the scrimmage since they did not comment on it or Henderson getting injured.
Terrell Lewis is shockingly big and impressive. Teamed on one side with Donald could be unfair…
Jourdan thinks Rams may have crushed this rookie draft class….
ILB largely Kiser and Howard with the 1s. A good pass rush and coverage can hide any other deficiencies.
Coaches are happy with Floyd. Ebukam looks like he has gained some size.
They are really rotating CB combinations a lot. A lot of versatility in guys that can play safety and CB.
Thinks overall the defense could be very, very good….
OL position battles remain at OG. Testing different combinations and protections so any pocket issues reported should be taken with a grain of salt.
OConnell trying to take over what Goff learned in the spring from QB coach House about being more efficient with the ball and footwork and translate it to camp and practice situations. You have to get comfortable in chaos and being off schedule. There is room for cautious optimism based on the work he has put in and better foundation around him.
Brown leads the RB group in all stretching, drills, etc. Clear also that they are trying to bring Akers along quickly. Part of The Jared Goff Project is reviving the run game.
Consistent rotation at TE with Higbee and Everett.
Van Jefferson has impressed so far but still bringing him along and most first team rotations are still with Reynolds. VJ has been running a full route tree for a while though. Very precise. Goff has a clear comfort level with him.
Woods, Kupp and Jefferson very similar in how they can run any route, get separation, etc. Jefferson not under pressure to put up big numbers as a rookie. Can play situationally and grow from there.

Ashawn Robinson Cannot play for 8 weeks
So I looked up what an NFI (non football injury) designation really means from a playing standpoint and here’s what I found
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-football_injury_and_illness
Players on the reserve/non-football injury or reserve/non-football illness lists are ineligible to practice or play in games for the first six weeks of the regular season. After six weeks, a player can begin practicing with their team but cannot be moved to the active roster until after the team has played its first eight games of the season. When a player starts practicing, a three-week window begins in which the player can be moved to the active roster. If a player does not get activated after the three-week window ends, they must remain on the reserve/NFI list for the rest of the season. Only up to two players from the NFI lists are eligible to return to the active roster for each NFL team.[1] NFL teams are not required to pay base salaries to players placed on the reserve/non-football injury or reserve/non-football illness lists
So the minimum for Ashawn is 8 weeks. I got this from Jourdan Rodrique on her 11 Personnel podcast.

On keeping Perkins over Love as qb 3
McVay was asked whether Perkins’ mobility played a role in the decision to cut Love over Perkins, and it’s clear that was a factor.
“Yeah, I think so. Bryce has done a nice job,” McVay said. “He’s earned the right to be able to get a couple more reps and for us to evaluate him. But, certainly, anytime that you can create off-schedule and be able to do some things that aren’t within the design of the play is a very good quality you like from QBs and John certainly has that.”
