#Rams GM Les Snead said he and his staff have talked about both possibilities at 31 – keeping the pick or trading it. But said they are prepared, first and foremost, to make that pick

    Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Rams president Kevin Demoff said that the team hasn’t yet had negotiations with Jared Goff about a long-term contract extension, but neither side has had much urgency to negotiate a deal right now.

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
There is 0.0 reason for the Rams to re-sign Goff until after 2020.

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Rams head coach Sean McVay: “This is a guy who is the ultimate leader and he’s going getting better.” Adds Goff will be a Ram for a fifth year and “many years to come after that.”

    Joe Landers@Jlanders0
America loves the underdog. Gotta love the UDFAs. 31% of rosters and I believe even higher on OLs. The forgotten, the dismissed. “You’re five-foot nuthin, a hundred and nuthin, and you ain’t got a spec of athletic talent.” Hyperbole, I know, but that’s gotta be how UDFAs feel.

    Myles Simmons@MylesASimmons
McVay says #LARams DT Aaron Donald is going to be around for “a really good bit” of the offseason program. Donald has been around for the first few days of the program.

Unattributed quote of the day (from off the net): “Eric Dickerson still can’t figure out why he made less money playing for the Rams than he made playing for SMU.”

Seahawks agreed to trade their franchise player, DE Frank Clark, to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2019 first-round pick, a 2020 second-round pick and an exchange of third-round picks this year, per league sources.

    Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
The Seahawks didn’t want to pay Frank Clark. So the Chiefs gave them a 1st and 2nd to take him off their hands? Seattle should be clicking its heels right now

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Sean McVay on Seattle trading Frank Clark out of the NFC West today: “Am I going to be sad not to see him twice a year? Heck no. He’s a great player.”

    Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Under his 5th-year option, Jared Goff is scheduled to make $22,783,000 for the 2020 season.

    TL_LARams@TL_LARams
if Goff keeps improving like he has, his price is only going to go up

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
But it’s not worth touching any part of 2020. Not with a QB. Any new money starts in 2021.

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Snead says not having a first rounder recently helps his preparation this year. “We’re used to really focusing on this area in the draft. There’s not a lot of difference between 31 and that early second round. We’ve been swimming in these waters.” @DowntownRams @usatodaynfl

“It’s about finding guys who fit for us…. That’s what’s good about where we’re at now.” — Sean McVay

    Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Snead said there may be so many good D-linemen that none of them make it to the 31st pick.

Les Snead on this draft’s defensive line class: “I do think we’ll remember this draft as one where more of those guys were probably drafted earlier than ever.”

The Rams have drafted as many fullbacks (1) as they have DBs (1) since 2015.

    Daniel Jeremiah@MoveTheSticks
Teams have these CB’s stacked so differently. One team views a player as a top 3 CB while another will have him outside their top 10 CB’s. It will be really interesting to see how they come off the board.

After two seasons playing for his hometown Oakland Raiders, Marshawn Lynch is not planning to play football again, league sources tell ESPN.

Now, with the three-day draft kicking off Thursday night in Nashville, the Raiders have one more potential need to address: running back.

That was a great run. But as per usual, there was a lot of bad tackling on that great run.

Marshawn was one of the best ever. A little better than Steven Jackson?

from NFL draft predictions for all 32 teams

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2019/story/_/id/26575518/nfl-draft-predictions-all-32-teams-trading-taking-qb-more#lar

    Los Angeles Rams

Rams will try to add picks to address both lines

The Rams will attempt to trade down, out of the 31st overall selection, to collect more picks later in the draft. They must find a young offensive lineman who is capable of contributing immediately after losing left guard Rodger Saffold in free agency and declining the option on center John Sullivan’s contract. They also have a need on the defensive line, with tackle Ndamukong Suh a free agent and unlikely to return, and must find a player also capable of contributing early. Last year, general manager Les Snead showed a knack for trading down and collecting picks as the Rams finished 2018 with 11 selections. They’ll start Thursday’s draft with seven picks, but don’t be surprised if they add a few more. The Rams also have needs at linebacker and in the secondary. — Lindsey Thiry

On trading back. Teams giving up 3rds to move up happens all the time…

In 2017, the Rams got a 3rd to move back only 7 spots from 37 to 44.

In 2015 with the Hav trade, Snead moved back about 15 picks in the 2nd and got a 3rd.

If they move into the 40-45 range from #31, they will get a lot more than a 4th.

Teams have paid a premium when moving into the end of the 1st round because they get that 5th year option. So 31 for 41 and 72 isn’t unreasonable per the trade charts and Snead’s trading history.

i would say definitely not. lynch had the benefit of playing on superior teams.

i can only imagine how jackson would have been in mcvay’s offense.

Just talked to a Redskins source who told me Dan Snyder has “taken over the first round of the draft.”

The last time that happened the Redskins traded two future No. 1’s and a No. 2 to move up for Robert Griffin.

Reports that Washington is looking to get into Top 5 are 100% accurate. From what I have been told the QB they want is Daniel Jones

According to @Ourlads_Shonka …. SHOCKER here … he hears that Q. Williams of Alabama will go to the

from Rams Q&A: Vinny Bonsignore https://theathletic.com/942751/2019/04/24/live-rams-qa-with-vincent-bonsignore-today-from-noon-1-p-m-pt/

I do think one thing they’ll first try to do is trade down to collect more picks. That said, I’ve been told they are prepared willing and comfortable to make their pick at 31, based on the group of players they believe will be available. And if they do hold onto it, I see a defensive lineman first and foremost. But if their guy(s) aren’t there, BPA at CB/OL/ILB/S

So many directions they can go in. First and foremost they need to get the defensive line squared away. Cornerback – both current starters are entering the last year of their contracts – in another. Obviously there is a starter’s job open at ILB. And the offensive line needs depth. I could see them going in any of those areas with a BPA at any of those spots. But that d-line hole is so glaring. That’s the direction I think they’d go it

Noteboom and Allen are two guys the Rams really like and have poured a ton of time and effort into developing. The more likely scenario is a new guy comes in and develops for 2019 and is ready to be a starter in 2020. That is, unless it’s the NC State center, who I believe is a day one starter and Brian Allen would have a battle on his hands.

I think if they go high at RB it’s probably some sort of indication on Todd. Time will tell on Todd, obviously. And it’ll be interesting to see if they grab a running back in the draft, and at what point. But I’ll say this, action is louder than words, right? The fact they haven’t gone out and really made a major move at RB, doesn’t that tell you they feel pretty good about the situation? Now granted, maybe they do in the draft. I honestly don’t think anyone can truly answer [how TG is] until we see how he holds up through another full season. The way the Rams are acting/talking, it sure seems like there is a comfort level that whatever the issue is, they have a plan to manage it. I also think Malcolm’s role will expand, probably as a result of the plan moving forward. But as far as what exactly is Todd facing or up against, only time will tell. I’m not ruling anything out, because we still aren’t really sure what is up with Gurley. This draft may tell us a lot about him. So we will see

I think what you are seeing [compared to before 2017] is much better synergy between those two sides of the building [ie. coaching & personnel], and a really good job by Sean and his staff articulating to Les and his staff what they need in terms of skill sets in order to perform in the schemes they utilize. If there is one big difference, to me that is it. As a result, it makes Les and his staff’s job a little bit easier in terms of who they target

Every draft pick that the Rams made last season was attached in some way to a trade. Probably a safe bet that Les Snead will be burning up the phones again.

    from https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-2019-draft-fixes-for-all-32-nfl-teams

The weak link along the Rams’ offensive line last season was at center as John Sullivan limped to a 51.7 overall grade, which was the 34th-ranked grade at the position. With Rodger Saffold‘s departure from the guard spot, the interior offensive line is a key area for the defending NFC Champs to attack in the class and with Brian Allen the only center on the roster right now; it makes the most sense to start there. Adding a valued pass-rusher outside of the league’s best defensive player in Aaron Donald should only free up more one-on-one situations for the All-Pro in the interior.

Draft target: Garrett Bradbury, C, NC State
Bradbury was a top-five graded center each of the past two seasons and the highest-graded Power-5 center in this draft. He’s an ideal fit for the Rams and their outside zone scheme and he is extremely quick off the ball in the run game, while he’s capable of making the highlight-reel reach blocks necessary for a zone-blocking center.
