For the legendary Dr. Z, the mock draft was a one-shot deal, fretted over for months and fueled by hundreds of conversations and calls. In 2000, he had what might be the greatest mock draft in the history of mock drafts.

2011 draft: The Jaguars traded up with the Redskins to take Blaine Gabbert, leaving J.J. Watt on the table. Washington got Ryan Kerrigan with the lower pick. The pick after Watt is where the Vikings took Christian Ponder.

Never reach for a quarterback, kids.

2011 NFL draft is on NFLN: “Who would’ve thought the first Missouri player taken in this draft would be Aldon Smith and not Blaine Gabbert?”

    Hindsight, it is 20/20 forever

8 years later, it’s so funny to hear everyone surprised by Gabbert’s slide

    Russell Lande@RUSSLANDE
Usually intangibles and character are reasons for high picks to not succeed and even with tons of hard work and effort predicting those correctly every time is hard.

Are there any technological developments that have been made in scouting this offseason? —Hunter L.

JG: I don’t know about technological developments, but more teams are looking at the mental health side of things than ever before.

They’re looking at things a little bit differently and I think five years from now it will evolve into a much deeper spectrum of tools. This year is different than it was five years ago. Mental health doesn’t just mean depression, anger, suicide, it could also deal with motivation, desires to be great or the “why” a player does or thinks a certain way.

The more they can unlock in the 6-inches between the ears the better.

They’re trying to figure out, is this guy going to want to be great? Is this guy going to be able to handle outside family issues or outside noise? I think mental health is starting to play a bigger part than any technological development.

Why is it okay for a quarterback like Russell Wilson to set a deadline for an extension and no one in the media even begins to criticize it whatsoever? —Juda S.

JG: The reason why is because we’ve been around every single strategy and negotiating tactic that you could ever imagine so no one overreacts to it. We’ve seen it all. We saw Le’Veon Bell sit out the entire year, people are split on that. We’ve been in the middle of labor disputes between the NFL and the NFLPA, between players and GMs. We’ve seen it all… for the most part.

My advice to players and GMs, to both sides, is just remember you guys are duking it out and it’s ugly right now but everyone goes through the ugliness of negotiations and, eventually, you come out the other side — and once you do, you’ll need to act all lovey-dovey after that.

When Battle of Winterfell starts, I’m still not sold the Dothraki can hit the big shot.

The horde haven’t seen the dead. Those guys may completely lose it. Remember these are people who believe in witches and are afraid of the damn ocean.

I’d rather stand behind The Unsullied

I polled 14 personnel people this month on their choice as the best player in the NFL draft. Here were the totals: Q. Williams 6, Bosa 3, Murray 2, J. Allen 1, Haskins 1, Simmons 1.

It doesn’t appear to be a lock the #49ers will take Nick Bosa over Quinnen Williams

A survey of 14 NFL evaluators concluded that Alabama DT Quinnen Williams is the best player in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Williams (6’3/303) received 6-of-14 first-place votes, while Nick Bosa (3), Kyler Murray (2), Josh Allen (1), Dwayne Haskins (1), and Jeffery Simmons (1) rounding out the list. Despite receiving the most votes, it appears likely that Williams will not be a top-three selection with Murray, Bosa, and Houston DT Ed Oliver expected to be the first three of the board. If Williams falls to fourth overall, the Raiders should be quick to turn their card in, but Josh Allen, Devin White, and potentially a quarterback will also be in play.

The big battle is supposed to be tomorrow. Now I think it will be in episode 3.

Are you a GM seeking a Lombardi trophy?

Draft a QB in the 1st Rd and the odds will be in your favor.

27 of 53 Super Bowls have been won by 1st-Round QBs (51 pct).

However, it may take a few tries. Of 114 QBs selected in the 1st Rd since 1967, only 14 have won it all (12 pct).

5 biggest games on Rams' 2019 schedule

The Rams won’t have an easy road back to the Super Bowl, as they have a number of tough games ahead of them. Here’s a look at the five biggest games on their schedule for 2019:

    1. Saints at Rams – Week 2
    2. Bears at Rams – Week 11
    3. Rams at Browns – Week 3
    4. Rams at Cowboys – Week 15
    5. Rams at 49ers – Week 16

If the #Rams are in the market for a TE in this draft Trevon Wesco of West Virginia would be a perfect fit. They met with him at the Senior Bowl. He’s a phenomenal blocker, 6-5 270 with big time RAC ability and soft hands. He could be TE2 behind Everett in a year.

Remembering the failing grades from analysts and cacophony of boos at our Lambeau Field Draft party when we picked a QB name Rodgers in first round of 2005 Draft.
