Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida
Entering combine week, I was told by multiple team sources that the interviews could be a make-or-break step for Polite due to maturity concerns. And the feedback leaving Indianapolis has not been positive. I have heard from multiple sources who used terms like “temperamental” and “train wreck” to describe their meetings with the pass rusher.
Listed at 242 pounds at Florida, Polite tipped the scales at 258 pounds in Indy and didn’t carry it well during the testing drills. He ran a 4.84 in the 40-yard dash and jumped 32 inches before bowing out of the event, citing a hamstring injury.
Polite is talented at getting after the quarterback, but teams aren’t going to spend a first-round pick on a player they do not trust. I can’t speak for all 32 teams, but several clubs have crossed Polite off their list of options in the first round.

FYI on John Sullivan: #Rams get back all $6.25m in cap space and a $1m salary cap credit. So basically $7.25m in not picking up his option. Mark Barron saves $6.33 so essentially #Rams created $13.5m in space created todayThis does not necessarily mean #Rams we will be active in FA but the savings could be used for trades, resignings and players who get cu

Maybe Vinnie is right on this? Spotrac said they saved S5.25 million. I will change what I posted earlier.

Rams have two internal candidates — Allen and Blythe — who can fill [Sullivan’s] spot, but it raises further questions about Saffold. If he’s not back, the Rams would be replacing their center and left guard at the same time. Not ideal. From what I’m told, there are no current plans for Rams to alter Michael Brockers’ contract.
Rams cleared more than $11.5 million in cap room but now have (starting) vacancies at left guard, center, defensive tackle, inside linebacker, outside linebacker and safety.
Here’s my top-of-head, pencil-sketch thoughts for Rams: Plus in Noteboom/Allen. Re-sign Fowler. Draft a safety. Go to the market for a DT and ILB. Draft for depth, and don’t ignore CB.

Report: Jets interested in two of Rams' biggest free agents
Entering free agency this year for the Los Angeles Rams, there are four big names set to hit the market: Rodger Saffold, Dante Fowler Jr., Ndamukong Suh and Lamarcus Joyner. Les Snead indicated that all three will be allowed to test the waters and won’t be re-signed before the new league year begins on March 13, which isn’t great news for Los Angeles.
There’s a very real possibility that all four leave in free agency, forcing the Rams to replace three starters on defense and one on offense. Considering how many teams have an abundance of cash ready to spend, too, the Rams are unlikely to compete with many of the top offers made to those players.
According to multiple reports, the Jets are already showing interest in two of L.A.’s biggest free agents. Connor Hughes of The Athletic reported Monday that the Jets have shown interest in Fowler and Saffold, the latter of whom will have a lot of teams vying for his services.
This coincides with previous reports from Steve Wyche of NFL Network, who mentioned the Jets as a team who could sign the guard, and ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who reported New York’s interest in Fowler and other pass rushers.
The Jets have the second-most cap space in the NFL this offseason at $102 million, according to Over The Cap. The Rams, on the other hand, have just $22.5 million in cap room, which is in the bottom half of the league.
Needless to say, it’ll be extremely difficult for the Rams to compete with teams like the Jets, Colts and Bills, who could all potentially express interest in many of the Rams’ free agents, including Suh, as well.

Add a third 2018 rookie who could step into a huge role for the Rams: inside linebacker Micah Kiser. Rams believe they get fill inside linebacker hole internally. Kiser is smart and stout.Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva

Lawrence is ok. I just think Simmons and Tillery are better. I am fine with keeping Brockers, too. I think the Rams will use the first round draft choice on some kind of pass rusher. imo
Simmons and Tillery have some pass rush in them, more than Lawrence. They can play DE in a 3-4. They said Tillery can even do a bit of LBer. Simmons can play a 3 technique.March 6, 2019 at 6:17 pm #98601znModeratoralyoshamucci
[on the possibility Kiser becomes a starter]
Why draft a guy to redshirt if you don’t plan to start him later? Besides that, … he played every snap for Virginia for four years. A year off likely helped his body recover from the punishing hits he put out. He was one of the few LBs in the ACC who knocked people to the ground when he hit them.

Rams add NT Dexter Lawrence, fortify secondary in 4-round mock draft
With just about every pre-draft event now in the rear-view mirror – from the Senior Bowl to now the NFL combine – only pro days are left before the main event in April. The Los Angeles Rams will be in the market for players at several positions, but particularly on defense.
They met with a handful of defensive linemen and pass rushers at the combine, and while they surely had interviews with other players, those were the ones made public by prospects. It’s clear the Rams need help up front, which is why Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling has them taking a stud defensive lineman at No. 31 overall in his latest mock draft.
The Rams take Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence, who ran a 5.05 40-yard dash at 342 pounds before suffering a minor quad strain.
31. Los Angeles Rams Dexter Lawrence DL Clemson
Free agency could have a huge impact on the NFC champs’ defense, as they could be looking to replace key starters at defensive tackle and safety. In this situation, general manager Les Snead opts to find the successor to Ndamukong Suh, landing the massive but explosive Lawrence to lock down the middle of the defensive line.
He would be a perfect fit at nose tackle in the Rams defense, replacing Suh. He has phenomenal size and athleticism and while he may not be a dominant pass rusher – no nose tackle is – he’s excellent against the run.
The Rams don’t have a second-round pick, but they do have two in the third round. They select Jaquan Johnson, a safety out of Miami, and Vanderbilt cornerback Joejuan Williams in the third, fortifying the secondary.
94. Los Angeles Rams Jaquan Johnson S Miami (FL)
88. Los Angeles Rams Joejuan Williams CB VanderbiltJohnson disappointed at the combine, running a 4.69 40-yard dash at 191 pounds. He can play both safety spots, but there are concerns about his speed and size. Williams comes with similar weaknesses, running the 40 in only 4.64 seconds – not a great time for a corner, but he is 6-foot-4, 211 pounds.
He can be a good press corner, though, if used properly. And with the way Wade Phillips typically likes to use corners in press-man coverage, it’s easy to connect the dots on this pick.
133. Los Angeles Rams Ben Banogu EDGE TCU
Lastly, the Rams select Ben Banogu out of TCU. The edge rusher had a strong performance at the combine with a 4.62-second 40-yard dash, a broad jump of 134 inches and a vert of 40 inches. His three-cone drill of 7.02 seconds at 250 pounds is also fairly impressive and while he’s not a refined pass rusher, the traits are there.

or if they trade down, that’s cool too.
even an edge rusher. even if they re-sign fowler or get a fa. not sure ebukam is the answer and who knows about okoronkwo. even of that edge rusher is in the middle rounds. they need four guys who can legitimately compete for playing time on the edges.
tillery at linebacker would be wild. what intrigues me about tillery is he came to notre dame as an offensive lineman, so he’s relatively raw compared to other prospects, but he’s also got that disposition you want in a defensive lineman.

on Rams OL: In 2018, including playoffs, Andrew Whitworth, Rodger Saffold, John Sullivan, Austin Blythe and Rob Havenstein played 1,155 snaps together, the most by any 5-man o-line combo in the last 10 seasons.Warren Sharp@SharpFootball
Pass defenses have been built for years to stop 11 personnel. Offenses need to increase their pass rate from 12 personnel.Passes from 12 (vs 11):

haha.
seriously though. he’s got the size. 6’4″ 340 lbs. length. 34 3/4″ arms. by the way he lifted 225 36 times with those insanely long arms. and his legs carried those 340 pounds 40 yards in 5.05 seconds. i just wish he coulda finished the rest of the workout.
i think he’s got more pass rush potential than we might think. but more than that just occupying blockers and collapsing the pocket, he’ll make everyone else better. his closest comparison would be linval joseph or even haloti ngata.
you don’t find guys who can generate his kind of power. shoot. ask him to drop 10 pounds, and he’ll still be able to generate an insane of power while gaining some more quickness.
