NFL teams averaged 24.2 points per game during Weeks 1-12. They sit at 20.8 over the past 3 weeks. NFL teams averaged 21.9 PPG during Weeks 13-15 last season. Bizarre and dramatic dip in scoring after a massive explosion to open 2018.

I am very concerned about Drew Brees/#Saints (my SB pick) and their offense. Disagree? Consider this: In their last four games, Brees is averaging 176 yards. In their last three, he has more INTs (3) than TD passes (2) on 5.6 YPA (worst in the league) — totaling just 16.6 PPG.

Pharoh Cooper cost us a playoff win. JoJo Natson cost us a regular season win.

Trying to figure out how Chargers (7), Pittsburgh (6), Kansas City (6) and Dallas (5), who are a combined 0-2 against the Rams, all have more Pro Bowlers…

For my money, the Rams biggest miss for the Pro Bowl is probably Robert Woods, who has played as well — all-around — at the position as anybody this season. He’s a fifth alternate?

Safety John Johnson not being named even as a Pro Bowl alternate tops my snubbed Rams list.

    Five years ago:

Sean McVay was the TE coach for Washington
Matt Nagy was a rookie QB coach for the Chiefs
Anthony Lynn was the Jets’ RB coach
Frank Reich was the Chargers’ QB coach

    Rams Q&A: Vinny Bonsignore

They definitely need depth with Justin Davis banged up. As for Pharoh Cooper, kick off return is becoming such a limited play and his opportunities at WR are limited as the fifth guy. Would not be surprised if he caught on somewhere where the need at WR is more pronounced.

Don’t get me wrong there are issues they need to get fixed. But so many cases of Super Bowl teams struggling in December it makes me wonder if taking the foot off the gas – even just a little bit – is somewhat normal. That said, they need to get the switched flipped back on. I think Sunday was a big wake up call in that regard

I think the Rams believe much of what’s happened – especially Sunday – was self-inflicted.

I think they just need to take a deep breath and hit the re-set button. And I can say this: No one is freaking out. And everyone understands they aren’t far away from cleaning it back up

no panic or finger-pointing. They are looking at things in the big picture of things. What happened the last two weeks will have no bearing on what happens when they step on the field this week or next or when the playoffs start. Every game is a separate entity, and they understand that. It’s a long season. Bad games happen. But it’s time to get back on the right side of things. (that’s the sense I’m getting in talking to guys)

Despite it all, they fought their way into a position where they were 18 yards away from tying/winning. They’ve played their worst two games of the year the last two weeks, and where within arms reach at the end of each game. It’s not miles they need to close to get back on trackj, it’s inches.

Both Suh and Brocker’s metrics are down across the board this year. Could be a scheme issue. Could be a position issue. But there is no question both have to play better. (Suh did play pretty well against Eagles)

The two players slated to play the other OLB went down with season-ending injuries in OTA’s and training camp. Talib went down for eight games. I think all of those factors play into the defense not meeting expectations. (I do think people mistake not living up to expectations with being bad. The Rams defense isn’t bad)

What do you think is the biggest issue with the team right now?

    Offensive line

The offensive line has definitely taken a step back. Not sure if it’s fatigue or age showing or just a slip in play. But guys simply aren’t performing like they had been earlier in the season. If there is one area I’m concerned about, that’s it. I think everything else is fixable. But in the O-line’s case, either guys aren’t as good as everyone thought or they’re in a bit of a slump.

Sullivan has definitely struggled. As has Blythe. There hasn’t been a whole lot of talk of benching anyone, but those interior guys have got to start playing better. If not, they might have to think about changing it up

This is just me – but I think first and foremost the Rams need to protect better up front. Goff’s been under pressure far too often the last couple games.

Goff has overwhelmingly been very good on second and third reads. The key is having the necessary time to make those reads and throw those passes. Too many times over the last few games, that time wasn’t there.

I even asked Jared if the rhythm they found late in the game was a positive take away. He felt good about that development moving forward. Important to remember as bad as they played at times, the turnovers and penalties, they were still 18 yards away from changing the entire narrative

Vinny any thought that maybe Goff is playing hurt? He is missing some throws he usually makes.

He insists he’s fine. Bigger issue: He’s throwing way too much off his back foot. He’s been getting a lot of pressure. And his play refelcts the duress he’s playing under

McVay indicated Gurley would play this week if he got medical clearance, but McVay also acknowledged the delicate balance when it comes to keeping Gurley healthy for the playoffs.

Sean McVay tells us live on @ESPNLosAngeles he was planning to go for two if @RamsNFL had completed the comeback against PHI.
