The Rams boasted three of the fastest ball carriers in Week 9. According to the NFL’s Senior Director of Communications, Randall Liu, wide receivers Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins, along with running back Todd Gurley were three of only five players to reach 20-plus miles per hour on Sunday.
Gurley was the first player to reach the top speed during the team’s opening drive. On a 36-yard run, the Georgia product reached 20.62 mph — the fastest speed reached by any player during the game.
Next up for Los Angeles was a 52-yard touchdown from Woods. On 3rd-and-33, quarterback Jared Goff hit Woods with a screen pass hoping to gain enough yards to pull the Rams within field goal range. But the former USC standout turned on the jets, reaching 20.43 mph to convert the third down into a touchdown.
Watkins also showed off his quickness during a 67-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Goff’s pass traveled 61.8 yards through the air before Watkins grabbed it and ran the rest of the way into the end zone, travelling at 20.33 mph in the process.
“Jared let it go with great anticipation and then Sammy, you see the elite speed down the field,” head coach Sean McVay said of the play. “What a great catch and throw especially in the elements — it was a big-time play.”

The #Rams are converting skeptics into believersLet you in on a little secret about the #Rams: They’re getting better.
Robert Woods told me offensive players sometimes laugh/smile when McVay puts a new play in, knowing it’ll work/produce yards and points
Zero doubt in my mind #Rams can compete/beat anyone in the #NFL. This is a good – across the board – team and very, very well coached

Who else thinks the #LARams and #Eagles are going to be the NFC version of Colts/Patriots of yesteryear?Joe Curley @vcsjoecurley
McVay credits coach Bones for the rise of Cory Littleton as a special teams playmaker.Jordan Raanan@JordanRaanan
The #Giants did not record a single hit on Jared Goff, according to @PFF. Wow. Just wow. No wonder Goff had a 146.8 QB rating.Randall Liu @RLiuNFL
Today is the 1st time QBs selected 1 & 2 overall in the same @NFL Draft each threw 4+ TD passes on the same day: @JaredGoff16 & @cj_wentzJulia Faron @JFaron
Today is the 5th game this season that the Rams scored 30+ pts and 3rd time that they have surpassed 40 total points scored.Rams Rookie TE G. Everett is currently the only TE in the NFL with two 40-plus yard receptions this season (vs NYG – 44 yd, vs WAS – 69 yd).

This is the stuff you didn’t see [from Gurley] last year. Vision, good decisions and execution in run game all around. Will Brinson@WillBrinson
Best 3rd down conversion % in NFL through Week 9:1. Rams (49.1)
2. Eagles (46.8)
3. Patriots (45.9)
4. Cowboys (45.5)
5. Panthers (43.4)Ryan Kartje@Ryan_Kartje
Last season, the Rams converted just 31.5 percent of third downs, worst in the NFL. They’ve improved by 17.6 percent. That’s insane. The NFL Coach of the Year race is going to be really interesting over these last eight weeks. McVay and Pederson face off in Week 14.
McVay’s use of Tavon all season has been a perfect example of how his O is constantly evolving. So many folds to his motion/jet sweep plays

This year’s 3rd down conversion rate of 49.1% is a 55.9% improvement over last season’s rate of 31.5%
49.1 – 31.5 = 17.6
(17.6/31.5) x 100 = 55.9%

November 8, 2017 at 8:18 pm #77163InvaderRamModeratori wanna say this. and i don’t know that it’s been mentioned before in relation to three of the five fastest ball carrier being rams this past weekend.
this was done in pouring rain. i don’t know what conditions the other two ball carriers were running in. but to me. that’s impressive. this wasn’t in some dome. on some turf. it was done on wet grass. well ok. not on grass. it was on field turf. but still. that’s pretty impressive.
