BREAKING: Aaron Donald is RETURNING to the NFL
Aaron Donald is officially coming out of retirement. The three-time defensive player of the year hinted at the possibility back in June after the Rams made a trade for Myles Garrett, and now, it’s officially going to happen, the team announced today.
When Donald retired, he still had one year and $30 million left on his contract and the two sides decided to restructure the deal. Donald will get $20 million in base pay, but the deal will be worth up to $30 million with incentives.
Over the past month, Donald worked out the Rams’ practice facility multiple times, which made it feel like a lock that he was going to return.
The Rams would have welcomed Donald back at any point, but today always felt like a soft deadline. With the team trimming their roster down to 53 players, the Rams likely wanted to know if they needed to included Donald on that list of 53.
On paper, the Rams defense was already one of the best in the NFL and it just got even better, even if Donald shows a little rust after two years in retirement.
