A couple at the bar said their son is doing an internship with the Rams. He’s a college coach somewhere. For what it’s worth, which isn’t much, the dad told me that his son, the intern, said that the team, or staff, or whatever, all think Donald is coming back. So there’s some flimsy second-hand hearsay for ya.

According to Schrodinger, Donald at this point both is and is not coming back.

I’m thinking that if he wasn’t going to, he would already know that. He’s a workout freak, and he’s been to the facility. What the hell is he going to find out that he doesn’t already know?

    Contract details, I’m guessing.

Is that the new Quantum Analytics? And how does that explain McVay abandoning the run in the Bears game?

    Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Aaron Donald wanted to do a workout in a football helmet, and even though he did not wear pads during it, he used Rams’ team equipment at their facility during training camp, requiring them to report his activity to the NFL.

it should be interesting if he does come back. getting back into the mindset and physicality. cris would know better than most. better than me for sure. maybe this is the motivation for donald. can he get back to his old self? the two years off must have taken some edge off. how do you ramp him back up to football shape?

if he does pull it off. and as more than just a role player. that will add another layer to his career.

It seemed to me, Aaron had already lost-something in that last year or so. He was still great but he was past-prime. Now, add two years more of just natural aging. He’s definitely never going to be ‘prime Donald’ again. He must know that. So, what are his expectations?

I’m sure he can still be good. Will that be enough for him? And when is he going to test himself against live opponents? (or has he secretly been doing that)

And what about the cap and the money?

I am old enough to remember the sad sight of an old Joe Namath on the Rams sideline. And a shot Bert Jones in 1982. Four games with the Rams.

    Un-retirements are always tricky.

maybe that’s the challenge. with a guy like donald i imagine expectations go out the window. i don’t think a guy like donald goes in thinking he can’t be his old self.

    If Donald comes back….

then it doesn’t matter if he’s not in his prime. It would be Donald + Garrett + Young (in his prime) + Turner (in his prime) + Fiske (who may be stepping up) + maybe even Stewart. With a secondary behind them better than any AD ever worked with before.

I can see it now. At the end of the season, both Garrett and Donald apologize for getting only 15 sacks each. Yeah, they say, it was a great year for the defense, but both wish they were as good as their prime years, they both feel like they let the team down….

    Better than Jalen Ramsey?

I dunno about that, but maybe altogether. The safeties are probably better, at least better than the SB year when they went to the Old Folks Home to hire Eric Weddle.

Anyway… I thought we’d get a Donald confirmation yesterday or today.

The super bowl team started (in the superbowl)

    Jalen Ramsey
    Darious Williams
    Eric Weddle
    Nick Scott

Ramsey was great, Weddle was good.

This team has McDuffie and Watson, which I think is a better pair than Ramsey and Williams. They also have Lake and Curl, which could be the best safety duo they’ve had in decades.

i think the secondary as a whole. yes. could be better than any the rams have had under mcvay. and they have kinchens.

and i know you guys are talking just the secondary but donald hasn’t had anyone lined up with him in the front seven like garrett since robert quinn.

man if quinn could have stayed healthy no telling what he could have done.

It’s time for Donald to just do it already. He’s got to make his decision. Maybe everybody already knows inside the house, but if the players don’t know this week, I disapprove. The team needs to know, imo.
