2022 NFL Draft: Execs unfiltered on all 32 classes — Jets display urgency, Saints ‘destroyed’ value
Two things were abundantly clear regarding the Rams and this draft.
“I take it they like Cole Strange, and I take it they had a lot of drinks stocked up in that Rocket Mortgage Draft House,” an exec said. “I mean, shoot, it looked like one big ‘eff them picks’ party, except it wasn’t just eff them picks, it was eff them picks and eff other people’s picks. Forget about calling draft prospects. They had to make apology calls.”
The Rams did call the Patriots to convey their respect for Strange, the player New England selected in the first round against public expectation, after coach Sean McVay was shown laughing while watching Strange’s selection announced during a media session.
The Patriots had selected 29th. The Rams normally would have been scheduled to select 32nd, but they had sent that choice to Detroit in the trade for Matthew Stafford, which has worked out pretty favorably to this point. The Rams did not select until the third round, when they picked Wisconsin guard Logan Bruss.
“They are feeling pretty good about themselves, and that’s fine,” an exec said. “We liked their first pick, Bruss. He will be solid for them. The corner (fourth-rounder Decobie Durant) is not a bad little corner. He is small, fast, probably will play nickel. They had some good picks from where they were picking.”
