AT THE HALF

The press box announcement just told us that the score is now Rams 3, St. Louis 0, and now I’m really confused. Nonetheless, Greg Zuerlein made a 47-yard field goal.DOWNTOWN RAMS [DTR]@DowntownRams
9th missed field goal this yearTurfShowTimes@TurfShowTimes
The hardest decision for the #LARams impending free agents? Might be K Greg Zuerlein.SeattleRams@seattlerams_nfl

The ball just finds Cory Littleton. That fumble recovery gives him 4 this season to go along with 2 INTsTurfShowTimes@TurfShowTimes
That was #LARams LT Andrew Whitworth’s 8th holding call this year which ties him for the most in the NFLSosa K@QBsMVP
Brockers and Littleton both hurt in the last game before they hit free agency. Just terrible, hope it’s nothing serious.Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Tyler Higbee keeps eating. 3rd TD of the year. Already holds single-season TE records for receptions and yards==
Sean McVay was not happy about John Fassel's fake punt attempt.

The Rams capped off the year with a 31-24 win, finishing with a (disappointing) 9-7 recordLindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Rams defeat Cardinals, 31-24, to finish 9-7.For first time since 1999-2001, Rams put together three consecutive winning seasons.

At 9-7, @RamsNFL leave the Coliseum on a winning note, sweeping Cardinals for 3rd year in a row. Match the longest winning streak in the series against ARI at 6 games (also 1979-87).Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
No playoffs, but third straight winning season after more than a decade of futility. The Dizzle@Nmartin55
David Long looks fantabulous. Shocker that Gramps Wade develops secondary playersDecember 29, 2019 at 8:07 pm #109859znModeratorJ.B. Long@JB_Long
Couple closing thoughts:
🔹As nice as it would’ve been to play on, striking how suddenly 9-7 has become profoundly disappointing for #LARams.
🔹Hate that Littleton & Brockers couldn’t finish this one. They’ve given so much to #LARams and wish them best of health in free agency.December 29, 2019 at 8:31 pm #109861znModeratorRich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Eric Weddle indicated he would not return to the Rams next season if they intended to bring him back as a backup. He said he expected that to happen and would understand. Said he’s having knee and shoulder surgeries.Sosa K@QBsMVP
The day we found out the structure of his deal – as well as the selection of Taylor Rapp – all but guaranteed Eric Weddle would be gone after one year. I’d say it worked out, but it’s time to move on.December 29, 2019 at 8:55 pm #109863wvParticipantRich Hammond@Rich_Hammond

I hate losing all that wisdom, experience. I hated losing the Center John Sullivan for the same reason.

It’s almost as if the Rams knew what they were doing when they traded away Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib mid-season. They have excellent depth at cornerback with Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Darious Williams and David Long Jr. Williams and Long were the starters outside on Sunday, while Robey-Coleman assumed his role inside.
Williams picked off one pass and broke up another on a deep pass over the middle, showing off his ball skills and coverage technique. There’s still a lot to be decided with the 2020 roster, but Williams made a strong case against the Cardinals – and in the last two games, really.
Long should be part of the secondary in 2020 regardless because of his draft pedigree and potential, being a lockdown corner at Michigan previously. With Ramsey and Hill returning next year, the Rams have plenty of options in the secondary.

Tyler Higbee’s month of December for the Rams:– 43 of his 69 catches
– 522 of his 734 receiving yards
– 2 of his 3 touchdownsHis 69 receptions and 734 yards are both single-season franchise records for a tight end. His three touchdowns are a new career-high.

LOS ANGELES RAMS
The Rams struggled to get much going on the ground. When they did find success, it was usually the result of a cutback run on outside zone. Overall, they struggled to run between the tackles.
The Rams utilized tempo to keep the Cardinals on their heels. With the use of a fast pace and quick passes, Jared Goff was able to stay in rhythm throughout the game.
Aaron Donald did Aaron Donald things tonight, and it was entirely unfair to the Arizona offense. Virtually unblockable throughout, Donald categorically annihilated the Cardinals’ offensive line.
The Rams defense played a decent game regardless of the Arizona offense distributing turnovers like candy at Halloween. The Cards’ ground game tacked on some yardage late but had been shut down to minuscule levels prior to that. Christian Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald were held in check by a secondary that was missing considerable talent.
ARIZONA CARDINALS
The Cardinals’ offense played relatively well until they started coughing up turnovers. A string of plays sent the ball to the Rams early, starting with an early snap with Kyler Murray still setting up a play followed by a dropped pitch to Kenyan Drake. Murray tacked on another interception on an overthrow and another was dropped. No offense can be expected to find success with as many miscues as Arizona committed today; the simple fact Arizona hung around is entirely surprising.
With the offense stalling on turnovers and offensive pass interference penalties, the running game was never given the opportunity to establish itself until very late. Even facing a defense sitting many of its stars — most notably in the secondary — Arizona just couldn’t get past themselves. One bright spot was Dan Arnold, who did everything he could to salvage the day and popped off the screen at every opportunity.
Chandler Jones was a menace early on for the Cardinals but settled down as the game went on. He recorded multiple pressures and made some plays against the run, but the Rams’ use of quick passes neutralized him for the most part.
Outside of a few splash plays, the Cardinals’ secondary did a solid job of staying on the hips of the Rams’ receivers. The unit had a handful of forced incompletions and made a few key stops immediately after the catch.

Rams TE Tyler Higbee fell 16 yards short today of becoming the first tight end to have five straight games with at least 100 receiving yard in NFL history.Nevertheless, a great month of December and a bright spot for the Rams moving forward.
Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman on Wade Phillips: “I love Wade. I love his scheme, I love everything about Wade. He always treated me with respect… Only got a number of great things to say about Wade.”
Rams OLB Dante Fowler on Wade Phillips, whose future with the Rams is uncertain: “Growing up as a kid, I was like 9-10 years old and I wanted him to be my DC… not going to like it if they do do it, but it’s part of the game. He left a huge legacy so he’ll be good forever.”
J.B. Long@JB_Long
🔹Awesome bounce-back by Taylor Rapp (fumble recovery, INT).
🔹You can never have too many corners, and this organization has some great options in Ramsey/Hill/NRC/Williams/Long.
🔹Can’t tell me McVay/Goff didn’t want Woods to get a TD tonight. He earned it in 2019. Very fitting.Darious Williams’ hands are way too good to be on the bench in the NFL again. Second INT in as many weeks.
