Go to the menu bar, upper right:

Mystery solved.
It depends on magnification.
At greater than 150, you get this:
Click the 3 bars and you get the side menu you say you don’t get.
At lesser magnification, you get this:
i see. I had to take firefox up to 240% to get the icon and stuff. Ok, mystery solved. It was beginning to bug me. 😉
