It’s no joke — on Friday, the NFL released the offseason program dates for all 32 NFL teams. With a returning head coach, the Rams’ program will commence on April 18 with the first phase of the nine-week period. In the final phase, Los Angeles is tentatively scheduled to hold six organized team practice activity (OTA) workouts and then hold a three-day mandatory minicamp from June 14-16. The Rams’ six OTA dates are scheduled for May 31, June 1, June 3, June 7-8, and June 10. This year, the entirety of Los Angeles’ offseason program will be held in Oxnard, Calif.

With the latest collective bargaining agreement, NFL teams’ offseason programs run nine weeks and go through three phases. The first phase runs two weeks, and teams may work on only strength, conditioning, and physical rehabilitation on the field.

The second phase goes three weeks. During this period, teams may conduct on-field individual instruction and drills, as well as full, separate practices with the offense and defense. However, the team may not practice “live,” or conduct team offense vs. team defense drills.

Finally, the third phase runs four weeks where teams may hold up to 10 OTAs. While there may not be contact, teams can run 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills in practice. Though the Rams have not traditionally held a mandatory minicamp in this phase under head coach Jeff Fisher, they are tentatively scheduled to do so in mid-June.

Additionally, teams may hold a rookie program for seven weeks, which can start on May 9 this year. During that time, the players may not have team activities held on weekends, with exception of one rookie minicamp. That minicamp — which the Rams usually term “rookie orientation” — may be held either the first or second weekend following the NFL Draft.
