NFL Week 11 PFF ReFocused: Los Angeles Rams 17, Chicago Bears 7
It wasn’t pretty, but the Los Angeles Rams still came out of Sunday Night Football with a 17-7 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 11.
PFF’s ReFocused series features immediate takeaways from the two analysts who graded the game live. The two offer a detailed breakdown of the game’s most notable performances before the grades and advanced stats are reviewed and finalized by Senior Analysts.

Final ScoreLos Angeles Rams 17, Chicago Bears 7
Los Angeles RamsThe Rams only attempted 18 official passes, but Jared Goff was very efficient after his interception early in the game. He made up for that error with some pinpoint passes, including his 51-yard strike to Josh Reynolds that was nullified by an illegal formation penalty.
The Rams’ offensive line was by no means perfect against Chicago, the unit played much better compared to previous weeks. Rookie David Edwards should finish reviews with high marks in pass protection.
Aaron Donald was a man among boys on Sunday night. Nearly every time he had a one-on-one matchup, he won quickly and decisively. In addition to getting into the backfield seemingly at will, Donald also was active at batting passes around the line of scrimmage, and he was effective whenever Chicago attempted to run the ball his way.
It wasn’t just Donald along that defensive line that wreaked havoc. Both Morgan Fox and Sebastian Joseph-Day had strong performances, as well. Fox was especially effective as a pass-rusher, and Joseph-Day did most of his work in run defense. All in all, the Rams’ interior pass-rush feasted on Chicago’s offensive line.
Chicago BearsKhalil Mack and the Bears’ pass-rush was nullified by the Rams’ use of play-action and a high run-pass ratio. However, even when the Rams called pass plays with standard dropbacks, Chicago’s pass-rushers struggled to apply pressure and allowed Goff to have all day in the pocket.
Eddie Jackson has had a quieter season than most expect after his breakout season in 2018. However, against the Rams, he was very effective against the run. Jackson forced a fumble on the very first play of the game, and that set the tone for his play.
This wasn’t a great game from Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. He recorded zero big-time throws, offered little as a runner and connected on just a few passes of 10-plus air yards. But the offensive struggles weren’t solely on him. Trubisky didn’t make any turnover-worthy plays and was under fire from the Rams’ pass-rush all game long.
The Bears’ offensive line had no answers for Donald. Both offensive guards for Chicago – James Daniels at left guard and Rashaad Coward at right guard – were almost guaranteed to surrender a pressure on any snap where they were matched up one-on-one against Donald.

The Rams may have offensive line upgrades in-house
The Rams’ offensive line has been a hot mess this season thus far. They have slipped from being one of the best units in the game to one that has allowed more pressure than any other line other than the Chargers. Rob Havenstein’s collapse in play has been spectacular, but the rest of the unit has struggled, as well. Injuries forced them to play a pair of rookies on Sunday night against Chicago, and both players acquitted themselves well. Bobby Evans at right tackle, in particular, looks like a very viable alternative to Havenstein after he allowed zero pressures from 21 pass-blocking snaps last night.
Aaron Donald is still Aaron Donald
While Aaron Donald is the highest-graded defensive player in the NFL, Week 11 provided a nice primetime reminder of just how dominant he can be. He finished with a season-high 93.3 overall grade against the Chicago Bears, picking up eight pressures (two sacks, two hits, and four hurries) and a batted pass on 45 rushes, and he had another sack negated by a defensive hold. Donald won 27.7% of his pass rushes to lead all interior defensive linemen in Week 11.

DI AARON DONALD, LOS ANGELES RAMS
As we’ve come to expect, Donald was a one-man wrecking crew against Chicago on Sunday Night Football. He totaled eight pressures, including two sacks, and finished the game with a 92.6 pass-rush grade.November 22, 2019 at 2:30 am #108485AgamemnonParticipant#LARams Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman have stepped up big over the last 5 games 🔥🔥🔥
