    Grades for Rams-Colts

The top takeaways and highest-graded players from the Rams-Colts preseason game.

    St. Louis Rams

    – If you need three plays to tell you just how good Aaron Donald (+4.9) is, go watch the three plays beginning at 12.42 remaining in the 2nd quarter. His burst off the line is unmatched, and for these three plays in particular, just like much of his career so far, he set up camp in the opposing backfield. Three tackles resulting in a defensive stop, two of them for loss, back to back, to back. It’s scary to think how good he is so early in his career, and he’s going to be fun to watch in 2015.

    – On an efficient night at quarterback for the Rams new signal caller, Nick Foles (+2.1) was perfect on passes up to nine yards downfield. He was one for two on throws between 10 and 19 yards, but his throw of the night came downfield. On 1st-and-10 with 10:26 remaining in the 2nd quarter he hit wide receiver Chris Givens perfectly in stride for a touchdown. It was his best showing of the preseason, and will give Rams fans optimism heading into 2015.

    – The 2015 preseason hasn’t been kind to Rams left tackle Greg Robinson (-2.7) and Saturday night was no different. The second-overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft was beaten for a hit and two hurries from just 16 plays in pass protection, and didn’t look great against the run either. He struggled as a rookie, and this preseason hasn’t boosted anyone’s faith that he’s ready to turn the corner yet.

I think Robinson misses Saffold. He did better after they put Reynolds over there. And, I think Havenstein is used to working with Brown. Let’s see what they do against KC.

Robinson and Saffold have been joined at the hip since rehab, Brown and Havenstein since the draft. I don’t know why they had to change that last game.

My theory: They drafted Battle because they are very concerned about Robinson. The coaches look a bit lost trying to figure out this line and doing it at the last minute and part of that is Robinson. He’s a second year guy–yes. And moving him around last year didn’t help but I don’t get that either. Ereck Flowers starts at LT for the Giants and he looked good. Didn’t seem to need all this help.

    Robinson is struggling.

    It’s a problem.

    LT Ereck Flowers
It’s hard to complain about what you’ve seen from Flowers this preseason. He’s a rookie left tackle holding his own, and he did so again on Saturday night against a good Jets defensive line. Mostly, Flowers was matched against Jets outside linebacker Trevor Reilly. He won that matchup, especially up until the final drive. There were two plays in particular on the Giants’ long touchdown drive in the second quarter where Flowers stood out with his run blocking. He also showed some feistiness near the goal line on a play where his helmet came off. The one negative came on a when Flowers found himself against Muhammad Wilkerson and was pushed into the backfield. Wilkerson and Reilly split the sack after running a twist that the Giants left side didn’t handle well. Still another promising performance from the rookie left tackle.
