Rams chat with Jim Thomas
http://live.stltoday.com/Event/Rams_chat_with_Jim_Thomas_56?Page=4It looked to me like the second int was on Quick rather than Austin. What do you think?
by Tom 2:00 PMYeah, I thought it was a pretty good throw by Davis, albeit into double coverage. Quick jumped late for the ball. Had he taken one more step and then jumped for the ball he would’ve at least gotten his hands on the ball.
by jthomas 2:03 PMJim, per Jason La Canfora, the Rams are probably going to move to LA and with it increase Stan’s net worth by roughly 1 billion dollars. Whether or not this is the case, why would Stan stay even with a new stadium deal?
by poopeyerus 2:04 PMIt’s going to cost him more than 1 billion to build a new stadium in L.A. Plus he’ll face a relocation fee of at least half a billion dollars in LA. So the grass isn’t as green as it looks right now.
by jthomas 2:05 PMJim: Great chat! Thanks for your time. Sunday’s pill was hard to swallow. The Rams have a serious problem with their defense. That said, I was astounded by the number of non calls for holding on the Dallas O line. On the long pass to Bryant, I saw to obvious holding calls on Dallas’ Oline and nothing. No wonder the Rams can’t win when the officials give their opponents opportunities to get back in the game. That had to be the worse officiated game I’ve ever seen. What did you think?
by BenB 2:06 PMWhenever one team gets called for 119 yards worth of penalties and the other team for only 15, it catches your eye. I did some research on this and it’s the largest single-game disparity involving the Rams _ pro or con _ since the team moved to St. Louis in 1995. I know Jeff Fisher is very frustrated about the calls. Opposing teams have been called only once for offensive holding against the Rams all season. It’s all very strange.
by jthomas 2:11 PMwhy are bernie and bryan sounding increasingly worried about the team moving yet you are so blase about the topic? Do you not care or do you have reason for hope you can’t share?
by jim 2:17 PMOne I’m the beat writer; I’m not paid to write opinion columns. Two, I’m covering the football team _ what happens on the field _ that takes up 99% of my work time. I have very little time to make calls on the possible relocation of the team. We have others at the paper tracking that. I have said all along that the threat of a relocation should be taken seriously because the break in the lease is clean after this year _ even while others were saying there is no way the team will move. I don’t know how that qualifies as blasé.
by jthomas 2:24 PMHey Jim why no Tre Mason on the active roster?
by Tjust 2:26 PMBecause he’s the fourth-string running back right now.
by jthomas 2:26 PMJim–what did you see from the Rams’ defense on Sunday? What were you looking for, and how did they measure up?
by c_good 2:26 PMI saw a defense that didn’t get much pressure on the quarterback, that yielded the edge on three running plays by Murray that yielded 78 yards, and that had its worst coverage day of the year.
by jthomas 2:27 PMHow can the number 2 overall pick NOT be starting??
by PRESTON DENNARD 2:29 PMThe longer it goes on this way, the more disturbing it gets.
by jthomas 2:29 PMHi Jim, isn’t it time to get Robinson on the field? He’s going to make some mistakes in pass protection, but he’s also going to make some mauling run blocks and he needs to start getting game xperience.
by Steve A 2:29 PMI agree with your basic point. I just wonder if Robinson’s technique and grasp of the pass protection scheme is to the point where that’s feasible.
by jthomas 2:30 PMAny news on Bradfords recovery and do you think he would have been putting up numbers comparable to Davis. He seemed to think so.
by Ben S. 2:31 PMHe’s only a couple weeks removed from the surgery. I do think he’d be putting up very good numbers.
by jthomas 2:32 PMJim, what does Fisher see in Hill that he doesn’t see in Davis. On the west coast I don’t get to see much of the games but I’ve been major league impressed with Davis when I have seem him play. If he doesn’t end up the starter here I’m convinced he will be elsewhere.
by Tim 2:32 PMWhy are we worrying about this now? The time for outrage is when Hill starts in place of Davis and if HIll doesn’t play well when that happens. Davis is still starting as we sit here today. What coaches say and what they actually do often are different. It seems pretty silly to vent about it now. Wasted energy. .
by jthomas 2:34 PMJim, Davis looked great on Sunday. At what point do defenses start taking advantage of his below average arm strength?
by poopeyerus 2:35 PMFor the most part, he’s been able to get the ball where he needed it to go. He’s underthrown only a couple deep balls. Usually, it takes more than a couple of starts to get the book on a new QB _ if there’s a book to be had.
by jthomas 2:36 PMJared Cook needed to shove Davis harder for putting that ball in an uncatcable area, agree or disagree?
by GRob 2:36 PMI think Davis should’ve been the one shoving _ shoving Cook for dropping the ball. (Joke)
by jthomas 2:37 PMLike i told you jim our run defenses will always suck until we remove that slow cant get off blocks MLB
by Star Stream 2:37 PMThe linebacker you’re referring to isn’t the problem.
by jthomas 2:37 PMHey Jim I was wondering about Joe Barksdale – what’s his contract status? He’s truly been the best O-Lineman to date? Any talk on extending him?
by tc 2:38 PMBarksdale is an unrestricted free agent after this season, as is TE Lance Kendricks. I don’t think there’s anything substantive going on with either player at this point.
by jthomas 2:40 PMWhats going on with Robert Quinn?
by GRob 2:40 PMHe’s played pretty well overall.
by jthomas 2:40 PMJim I have a theory about Greg Robinson. A strong theory. Fisher wants to fire Snead after the season. In order to justify the move he is benching Robinson to make SNead look bad. Thoughts? Most people in the know in the Lou know that Fisher and Snead have a tense relationship.
by Steve 2:40 PMSo you intentionally bench the No. 2 overall pick to get rid of your GM? Oh boy. I also heard that the Easter Bunny works for the mob in the offseason.
by jthomas 2:42 PMWhat happened to our great front 4? Only a couple sacks till now…
by sKarnam 2:42 PMMost disappointing part of the team.
by jthomas 2:42 PMJim, when is Chris Long scheduled to return?
by Ekern55 2:42 PMThe earliest he can possibly return is Nov. 9 vs. Arizona, but it could be a week or two longer.
by jthomas 2:43 PMAny update on Trumaine Johnson? Also, what have you thought of Joyner’s play so far?
by GRob 2:43 PMHe’s getting closer to returning to practice, but he’s still probably a couple of weeks away, give or take.
by jthomas 2:44 PMWhich OL should robinson replace? Maybe thats why he isnt starting. Thanks
by Paul 2:44 PMThe logical move would be to have him step in for Davin Joseph. Whether that means having him play RG, or having Rodger Saffold switch to RG and have Robinson play LG _ I don’t know.
by jthomas 2:45 PMThanks for doing all these chats. Given how well Davis has played, would you feel comfortable heading into next season with Davis and either Hill or Keenum under contract and tentative hopes that Bradford is well enough to start? Or are we at a point where Bradford has been banged up enough that we truly need another immediate Plan A–a 1st rounder who could start right away, or a free-agent starter signing?
by c_good 2:45 PMI don’t think you can anoint Davis after 2 starts, even as well as he has played. At this point, I’d be learning towards a high draft pick.
by jthomas 2:49 PMHavent seen much from dunbar. Do you see him being replaced as a starter? Thanks
by Paul 2:49 PMI think he’s done OK. And I don’t think he’s the problem.
by jthomas 2:50 PMIf Dunbar’s not the problem at LB is it our DL or Ogletree?
by poopeyerus 2:50 PMEven though Ogletree had 14 tackles Sunday, we haven’t seen the splash plays _ the big plays _ from him like we did last year. I’d like to see better plays from the defensive tackles, and better work from the defensive ends holding the edge.
by jthomas 2:52 PMIs the adjustment to williams defense taking longer than anyone expected? Thanks
by Paul 2:53 PMI don’t think so. To a large degree it’s very similar to the 2012 scheme when Williams son, Blake, was the de facto coordinator.
by jthomas 2:54 PMJim do you think theres any chance Cook gets suspended for his shove of Austin Davis?
by Bakersfield Rams Fan 2:54 PMReally? No. We see this kind of stuff pretty often in the NFL. Cook has apologized to the Davis and the team, and the public.
by jthomas 2:55 PMHey JT thanks for the Chats, IMO I think the Offensive Play calling was fairly good Sunday. If Hill starts will we see a different approach than if Davis starts? not worried who starts by the way, just curious.
by Tim S. 2:55 PMI’d say they did more than pretty good. No sacks in 42 passing attempts, and four yards per carry on the ground _ that’s a good day’s work.
by jthomas 2:56 PMAt this point, after 3 games who is to blame more for the 1-2 start? Coaching or Players?
by sKarnam 2:56 PMI’d say both.
by jthomas 2:56 PMJim-Do you see us going on the road and beating the Eagles?
by GRob 2:56 PMWon’t be easy. But yes, it’s possible.
by jthomas 2:57 PMHow long can Arizona keep this up given the overall age of the team?
by Ben S. 2:57 PMI am a huge fan of Arians as head coach, but I can’t help but think they’ll come back to the pack.
by jthomas 2:57 PMWith Robinson on the bench and Mason inactive is Les Snead finally on the hot seat? How long can he keep on pointing to Johnny Hecker as an indication that he is a genius when he is building another PERENNIAL LOSER!!!!!!
by Jason 2:58 PMI’ll just say this: Snead didn’t make the pick in a vacuum.
by jthomas 2:58 PMIt looks to me that Fisher may be regretting doing nothing to bring in experience and talent in the secondary. Your thoughts?
by Tom 2:58 PMInteresting point. The secondary did a good job in the first two weeks, but faced a much more accomplished passing team Sunday in the Cowboys and Romo.
by jthomas 2:59 PMHow bad is Morris Claiborne?
by poopeyerus 3:00 PMYeah, he got burnt, and it was clear the Rams were targeting him. But that was one heck of an interception to seal the win for Dallas.
by jthomas 3:01 PMHi Jim, any truth to the comment made earlier in the chat that Fisher and Snead don’t get along?
by OregonRamFan 3:01 PMThey’re personalities are pretty different and in some cases their approach, but I think they have a good working relationship.
by jthomas 3:01 PMI thought this team was good quarterbacking away from being a contender. Although Davis isn’t Brady, he played well. Defense seems to be the concern. Any hope for improvement?
by GRob 3:02 PMThree games in, I’d say the overall play of the receivers has improved as well. As for the d-lilne, I’d be very surprised if they didn’t improve over what they’ve shown in three games.
by jthomas 3:04 PMJim what is the mood like at Rams park is it somber or is it angry I hope it’s angry
by way up north 3:04 PMI think it’s a mad football team right now.
by jthomas 3:04 PMIs Brockers playing hurt?
by poopeyerus 3:04 PMDon’t think so.
by jthomas 3:04 PMDo the Rams win that game with better officiating?
by c_good 3:05 PMVery possibly. But they also win that game with no pick 6 thrown by Austin, no dropped TD pass by Cook, better coverage, better scheme on defense, and no botched center snap.
by jthomas 3:06 PMI am from Dallas and flew in for the game since I also have family in St. Louis, I knew it was a baseball town but I was shocked at how apathetic the fans are. The EJD is a stale depressing place and Rams fans just are not committed to their team. It’s sad to see.
by Jason 3:07 PMWhat do you think the atmosphere would be like in Dallas, if your team hadn’t had a winning season since 2003, the Cowboys went 15-65 over a five-year stretch, and your owner refused to engage the fans and was threatening to move?
by jthomas 3:09 PMJim, any concerns that non of the drafts picks that we obtained from the RG3 trade, not a single one is a pro-bowler? You would think at least one would be considered. Dark days ahead AGAIN!
by Ekern55 3:09 PMSure. It’s still a little early to judge the trade overall, but you’d think some of these younger players would be having breakout years by now.
by jthomas 3:10 PMBailey was in for 10 snaps. I thought he’d be a little more involved.
by jthomas[/color][/b] 3:11 PMIf you were a betting man…….what are the odds the Rams stay in StL?
by Rams 45 3:11 PMI remain at 55-45.
by jthomas 3:12 PMJim firstly the Rams shoulder the majority of the blame for blowing a 21 point lead, there’s no denying that. But it should also be noted that this game was lost by 3 points. This team has enjoyed virtually 0 homefield advantage for some time now. How can this team, as young as it is, be expected to win close games at home with people are only too happy to either sell their tickets to opposing teams fans or just not show up at all?
by John C. 3:12 PMAs I’ve said many times in the past, the Rams have had a tough time getting those final 10K fans back in the stands. It’s always strange to hear opposing team chants in the stands, but it seems like it’s happening more and more these days around the league _ where fans used the secondary ticket market (outlets such as StubHub) to follow their team on the road.
by jthomas 3:14 PMWhy should the owner show any support for keeping this team in STL when the fans here can’t be bothered to even show up and try support their team? This team isn’t gonna go 14-2 but they’re also no where near as bad as they were. Why can’t people differentiate between this?
by John C. 3:15 PMGood point.
by jthomas 3:15 PMHow do the Eagles OL compare against the Cowboys?
by poopeyerus 3:17 PMEagles just lost their starting center _ he won’t play against Rams. I won’t really start my Eagles prep until next week. But Dallas’ line was one of the strengths of the team.
by jthomas 3:18 PMJim, do you think Givens is worth a roster spot anymore, he is not the same player he was as a rookie?
by Jeff Fisher 3:18 PMSure he’s worth a roster spot. He’s not playing nearly as much as he did the previous two years.
by jthomas 3:18 PMJim, in your opinion do you think the fans in this city would be buying into this team more, buying tickets to games etc if they had a stronger sense the team was going to be here long term? I can only wonder how many out there don’t want to get too emotionally involved and then have the team pulled from the city. Or, is is just the fact that we are like 43-104-1 since 06?
by reckerm 3:20 PMOf course they would. Which makes the silence by ownership all the more mind-boggling to me.
by jthomas 3:21 PMStacedGod was a beast per usual. MVP chatter yet?
by GreatHambino 3:21 PMHe did look more like himself Sunday, spinning away from tacklers, moving the pile.
by jthomas 3:22 PMIf an owner is planning to leave the city, don’t you think he would be silent? That silence may tell us quite a lot!
by Tom 3:22 PMCould be.
by jthomas 3:22 PMIf you dont think the coaching staff is stale, why are we struggling so bad in the 2nd half of games? Looks like no adjustments are being made on the fly
by Jeff Fisher 3:23 PMThe Rams didn’t struggle in the second half against Tampa.
by jthomas 3:23 PMIf the Rams did leave St. Louis, would there be any hopes of bringing another franchise to town in the next decade or so?
by Phil 3:24 PMSlim and none.
by jthomas 3:24 PMThanks for the chat Jim….. I don’t understand all the heat on Snead…. He has drafted talented players, isn’t up to coaching to get the best out of that talent…. I believe the Rams current problems are mainly coaching…. the talent level is too good to be performing like they are…. What say you ?
by coachraf 3:25 PMThis is the third year of a program that has had the benefit of multiple extra draft picks through a shrewd trade. When your team is off to a disappointing start against supposedly the weaker part of your schedule, everyone should be feeling the heat.
by jthomas 3:26 PMWhat are your thoughts on limiting professional sports owners to owning only 1 major sports franchise? Seems like Silent Stan has too many teams
by Jeff Fisher 3:27 PMIt’s called capitalism, so you can’t really prevent someone from snapping up franchises. But it would be ideal to have a single-franchise owner _ one who doesn’t have divided loyalties because of multiple franchises.
by jthomas 3:28 PMJim, it’s the curse of the new millennium gold and purple pants that has destroyed this franchise, agreed? It’s Georgia’s fault.
by Ekern55 3:29 PMThe Rams did make the playoffs four out of those first five seasons in the new uniforms.
by jthomas 3:30 PMJim-would you get a tattoo on your face to keep the Rams in STL for good?
by GreatHambino 3:34 PMI’m not Ethan Westbrooks.
by jthomas 3:34 PMGeez negative Nancy’s. We are missing our starting QB and Chris Long. How would NE or Dallas or Seattle be doing without 2 of their key players??? Especially Wilson, Romo, Brady.
by Big Dave Wave 3:34 PMArizona is 3-0 without Carson Palmer, Darnell Dockett, Daryl Washington, and Karlos Dansby.
by jthomas 3:35 PMAny word on the Rams changing uniforms soon? Demhoff seems to like the old uniforms of blue and white.
by poopeyerus 3:35 PMOh my God, a uniform question. Last I heard, the Rams were thinking about it long-term, but have heard nothing since.
by jthomas 3:36 PMJim, I honestly think the atmosphere of the dome has rubbed off on this franchise and specifically the players. It is not a horrible place by any means, but the years of loosing have definitely created a culture that is tough to break. I am starting to fear impossible to break.
by Red 3:37 PMWinning takes care of atmosphere.
by jthomas 3:38 PMJim…..I felt as if the Rams got away from the run attack when they had the lead. Thoughts?
by Red 3:38 PMI thought they were pretty balanced throughout the game.
by jthomas 3:38 PMokay. Is there a chance that the issues between Fisher and Williams may not be completely worked out, perhaps causing some of the issues on defense. Or are the players just struggling with the defensive scheme? OR are the players perhaps not as good as we thought?
by ramsfanwinorlose 3:38 PMI don’t think the past issues between Fisher and Williams are a factor. As I mentioned earlier, in many ways it’s basically the same defensive scheme that the Rams had in 2012 when Williams’ son Blake was de facto coordinator. Right now, I’m leaning towards may be the players aren’t as good as we thought.
by jthomas 3:41 PMSaw a report from InsideSTL’s Andy Strickland that apparently the Rams’ offensive players are pretty unhappy with Brian Schottenheimer. Think there’s any truth to this, and if so, is there any reason to think management would act before the offseason, combining this with a couple years of disappointing playcalling?
by Phil 3:41 PMYou mean, the offense that currently ranks 10th in the league in total offense? Haven’t heard that.
by jthomas 3:42 PMOn the pick six, I thought it might have been smart to try and run the ball for a few plays, so the players, especially the QB, could settle down, before starting to throw. I’m sure they were feeling a lot of pressure right then. Any thoughts?
by Tom 3:42 PMInteresting point.
by jthomas 3:43 PMWhat on Earth is going on with C Scott Wells? He’s playing like a rookie backup with botched snaps, bad reads, and missed assignments. Isn’t it time Tim Barnes stats to stop the bleeding?
by Dan Lum 3:47 PMHe’s certainly had some rough moments so far.
by jthomas 3:47 PMIs Tavon Austin a disappointment at this point? I really want the guy to do well but just haven’t seen it in him other than last years Indy game. Is this more Tavon or coaching issues?
by johnny 3:48 PMHe was playing very well last year before the injury. Way too early to label him a disappointment. And he’s hurt now.
by jthomas 3:49 PMJim why does it seem like Zach is tearing teams up then he disappears for several minutes then finally reappears, i begun to think he was injured?
by Brian 3:49 PMNo. The Rams just worked Cunningham and Watts into the mix.
by jthomas 3:50 PMJT-Do you think Fisher plays Hill over Davis? I know that is what he publicly has said when he gets healthy, but what is your gut feeling
by Jenkins 3:50 PMThere’s no way that Davis doesn’t start against Philadelphia.
by jthomas 3:50 PMJim, do you think Fisher’s involvement with the competition/officiating commitee’s holds the rams to a different standard regarding penalties in these games? The Dallas game showed me these ref’s are pulling it out of their arses.
by poopeyerus 3:51 PMYou would think it would help Fisher. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, does it.
by jthomas 3:51 PMDo you think with a bye week, Greg Robinson finally subplants Davin Joseph at guard?
by Jenkins 3:53 PMNot out of the realm of possibility.
by jthomas 3:53 PMHi Jim! You scoffed t me (LOL!) about my view that Austin Davis has somewhat reminded me of an early Joe Montana and like a young Joe, Austin keeps producing. He might be more than another Clint Longley.
by Chris 3:54 PMI’m still scoffing. I’ll un-scoff when the Rams reach the playoffs. I’ll personally apologize when the Rams win the Super Bowl.
by jthomas 3:54 PMJake Matthews looked brilliant blocking for Steven Jackson last Thursday night. The Fisher/Snead decision looks horrible right now. Also why has Tre Mason fallen so far down the depth chart?
by jim 3:55 PMI’ve said this before, I’ll say it again. I would’ve taken Matthews. I felt this way before the draft. As strange as this, 3 games is a little early to pass judgment.
by jthomas 3:56 PMI’m from Chicago and not even a rams fan but i think you guys get a bad rap by some as a nfl city. I was reading one of Bernie’s pieces and he said since 2005 the teams is like 44-102. I think it’s outstanding the rams draw what they do if the bears pulled off a record like that i think their would be alot of empty seats as well.
by Kevin 3:56 PMThere’s not a team in the league that would fill every seat with the kind of football we’ve seen here over the past 10 years.
by jthomas 3:57 PMJim – How much has the defensive scheme changed from last year? Were they basically running the Williams defense? I’m hoping that unfamiliarity wit the new system might account for some of the maddening inconsistency. What other possible reasons can you see?
by McGarrett 3:57 PMYouth in the secondary. Underachieving players. Switch to a 3-man front in passing situations vs. Dallas. Injuries that kept several defensive players off the field for much of the preseason.
by jthomas 3:58 PMIf the Rams are a run first team and Robinson is from a run offense at Auburn then what is the problem? I could see an issue if he was drafted by Denver, GB or NO but the Rams want to run and he is a run blocker.
by West Coast Ram 3:58 PMBecause even on a run-oriented team, you’re still going to throw 450 times or more in a season.
by jthomas 3:59 PMJim, Dez Bryant clearly fooled Jenkins on his long TD catch. Was this a man-to-man scenario, or did we miss help over the top?
by poopeyerus 3:59 PMJenkins bit on the out move by Bryant and got turned around. But there was supposed to be safety help from McLeod. McLeod instead went for the underneath route being run by Terrance Williams, and didn’t let Jenkins know he was doing so.
by jthomas 4:01 PMWe are in year 3 of the Fisher regime with a sub 7-9 season in sight because of the numerous 2013 playoff teams on the October schedule. I guess fisher can use the excuse that SamB’s injury has messed up the whole season, but at what point is he and Snead on the hot seat? I know Fisher stills says Sean Hill is the QB when he is ready to play, but since Austin Davis led the team to the edge of victory, why not give him the keys to the car and see where he takes the Rams. Davis seems like he is much more mobile than Hill.
by BillyB 4:01 PMAs I’ve said before, I think the heat comes somewhere in the 4_ to 5-win area. Just my opinion.
by jthomas 4:01 PMAre the refs ever held accountable if they consistently ignore penalties and make a one-sided farce of their actions?
by Tom 4:01 PMRefs are graded/evaluated by the league every week, and some are removed at the end of the year.
by jthomas 4:02 PMHey Jim. How many QB’s did the Rams pass up to take Tre Mason in the 3rd round?
by STL45Fan 4:09 PMNo QBs were drafted between Tre Mason at No. 75 in the third round and the Rams’ fourth-round pick at No. 110 overall _ Maurice Alexander. But QBs Tom Savage, Aaron Murray, A.J. McCarron, and Zach Mettenberger were all still on the board.
by jthomas 4:11 PMJim: thank you for your time but I must ask this, Austin Davis has been incredible and is running the offense better than ever so why won’t Jeff Fisher start Austin Davis over Shaun Hill.
by Grant 4:11 PMHas Shaun Hill started a game since the opener? No. Let’s see how this plays out.
by jthomas 4:12 PMRegarding the Rams vs. Dallas penalties – if ever there was a game for the NFL to look into for some sort of gambling fix, that game is it. Rams implosion was greatly enhanced by the refs. Coincidence?
by Guy Munsch 4:12 PMI’m not big on conspiracy theories, but it was strange. Very strange.
by jthomas 4:13 PMThanks for the time Jim… I’m not sure what the NFL told the ref’s this year but they are throwing flags on what seems like every play, across the league. To be honest, I’m finding it harder to watch games now and kind of curious if you have been thinking/hearing the same?… and they say MLB has a pace of play problem.
by StlSprtsHntr 4:13 PMI do think the game is being over-officiated.
by jthomas 4:13 PMHey Jim, I was initially not that disappointed with the loss. To see us not get blown out and put up points was a nice treat! But after thinking about it, it started to annoy me and totally flipped my mood. I guess its good to know that you never know what you are going to get each week and kind of keeps things exciting. Austin Davis has to start going forward right?
by Sort Of 4:14 PMAt the end of the day, you have to go back to: How do you blow a 21-point lead?
by jthomas 4:14 PMWhich QB after bye?
by 4Rams4Life 4:15 PMDavis vs. Philly.
by jthomas 4:16 PMgood job jim questions is brockers still bothered by athe ankle sprain how does he look on film will ray ray get some snap with run defense so bad? and I love quick producing if britt doesn’t begin showing up I like Stedman and tavon starting with quick
by lamont from jersey 4:16 PMBritt, who has been bothered some by a nagging shoulder issue. But he was much more involved on Sunday. I’m sure Bailey will get more involved an there’s a chance Tavon Austin will be back for Philly.
by jthomas 4:17 PMJim, do you believe it is the responsibility of the local media beat writers to question the coaches about the decisions made or just report on those decisions? From afar it doesn’t look like there is not much back and forth between the media and Fisher, but instead just a reporting of what he says.
by West Coast Ram 4:19 PMLet’s see: We asked him why there was such a slow-developing play on 4-and-inches (the one that got stopped); we asked him why the team used so many 3-man fronts against Dallas (thus taking a d-lineman off the field), we asked him why Janoris Jenkins shadowed Dez Bryant all day, which is something the team usually doesn’t do, we asked him doesn’t Austin Davis deserve another start. I could go on.
by jthomas 4:23 PMJim I probably used the wrong word choice with “blase” and you are a great journalist so that was not intended a shot at you. I guess what I meant is that over the past 6 months there are so many nuggets coming out indicating a possible move (Land purchase in Inglewood, NFL naming someone responsible for relocation, reports from La Canfora, Sam Farmer of LA Times saying Rams have one foot out of St. Louis etc…) Yet you continue to not budge on the 55-45% chance the Rams stay. That is what i find puzzling.
by jim 4:23 PMThe only thing that catches my eye in all of that is the hiring of someone to monitor the LA market and possible relocation. The main issue _ I repeat, the main issue _ remains the same. There’s no stadium.
by jthomas 4:25 PMI do not think this Defense is right for The Heavy Blitz Package defense that CoachGreg Wiliams specializes in. We do not have quick/Pass rush type LB’s
by Deacon J would be Rollin… 4:26 PMI’ll say this. The blitzes certainly aren’t getting there at this point.
by jthomas 4:27 PM1-2 record aside, the Rams have plenty of positive takeaways through 3 weeks. Our offensive line is getting better and it looks like we have a legitimate QB. If we stay healthy up front, I think we can still earn 7-8 wins. Pipe dream?
by poopeyerus 4:28 PMThat’s definitely a glass half-full approach. You just can’t let games like the Dallas game slip away. I agree with the improvement you’ve cited. But as impressive as Davis has been, I don’t think you can say he’s a legitimate QB after two games.
by jthomas 4:30 PMI rarely question Fisher’s game management. That said, the failed attempt on the 4th and inches from the DAL 16 yard line baffles me. don’t see how you can come away from that moment with zero points in a close ballgame. We would have had a 7 point lead! Were you troubled by that decision and play call?
by Knux 4:31 PMYou make a legitimate point. But I’m OK with going for it. I just have trouble with how long it took for the play to develop. You need 6 inches. There was more than a yard of space between the two Dallas DTs. Go on a quick count and sneak. All you have to do is fall forward with only 6 inches needed.
