I will do this via position groups. Others can do it any other way. Just want to see what folks R thinkin. Heck don’t even read this, just post yer own thing, long or short.

OL: needs to stay healthy but this is year 2 of a cohesive bunch

QB: if he just improves incrementally in a normal process he’s still a franchise qb obviously, but I would like him to become more “clutch” in top games. Perez might be a find, who knows, he has the right buzz anyway

WR: jeez, best in years, right? Cooks a good addition, Woods was just great, Kupp is strong in his role, I expect to see some stuff from Cooper and maybe even Thomas, Reynolds is the only guy I am not so sure about

TE: needs to step up, I am skeptical about Higbee, Everett not sure about but he flashed

RB: Gurley plus a ton of candidates for RB2 and RB3 (Brown, Davis, Kelly, Rose and I left one or 2 out…Rams have been finding solid UDFA backs for a few years now)

DL: It’ll do. (Interesting to see who the depth will be in week 1, lots of candidates since it basically was a front 7 + OL draft).

ILB: Barron plus newcomer…they do have a few candidates. Wade has traditionally scrimped on this position and gotten by with lower draft picks…he treats it as a 2-down position

OLB: Lots of names, but the pass rush was productive last year with just not even quite average work from the edge cause Wade uses the DL to set up match-ups on the outside…lots of promise in Ebukam and Obo but if they get just one 8-sack guy from the edge candidates, that might be all they need

    DBs: It’ll do.

Special teams: depends on Zuerlein’s health, but, this is the only unit I know of (off the top of my head) that put all 4 key positions in the pro bowl (P, K, holder, returner). Plus there’s Littleton who was not only an “ace” but blocked 2 punts.

draft picks & UDFAs: you know, I like this draft, it was all about front 7 and OL developmental guys and role players. Along with Ag and Canada I have been posting info on Rams UDFAs after draft time for years now, and this is as buzz-heavy a group as I have seen when it comes to that. They have interesting guys at safety, LB, and RB (along with Perez).

    OVERVIEW:

Rams are obviously set to contend, the only questions are how much heart they have and injuries.

BUT the NFC is as good as it has been for years. The Eagles, the Vikes, the Saints…plus possibilities in the Falcons and Panthers and you can never discount the Packers…and on top of it, maybe a division rival steps up (I think Shanahan is a great coach, we’ll see).

That right there barring surprises means, counting the Rams, 8 strong candidates for 6 playoff spots.

Outside the division alone, Rams play 4 of those NFC teams (Vikes, Saints, Eagles, Packers), along with the Chargers and Chiefs and Gruden Raiders.

If all those teams perform the way they look like they will, the Rams will have to be better this year (which I think they will be) to even get the same record as last year (which I think they will, or better).

On paper its clearly a consensus super bowl challenger.

And they have maybe the best DC in the biz, in Wade.

Ya kinda have to stretch just ta find question marks.

With all those good NFC teams, i hate to say it, but it will probly come down to luck. A bounce here, a tip there. A personal stomping foul.

I would say the thing that might tip things in the Rams favor is turnovers. It looks like the Donald/Suh combo, coupled with the ball-hawks in the secondary SHOULD equal more turnovers.

If they stay healthy this is a Super Bowl contender. Anything less than a Super Bowl might even be a disappointment.

    *If they stay healthy.*

The Rams have been the least injured team two years in a row. Maybe they will stay relatively injury free for three straight years?

The chance of a coin coming up heads three straight times is 12.5%. Yeah, I know the coin analogy doesn’t really fit but my point is that they are unlikely to be the healthiest team in the league three straight years.

So, most likely the Rams are in for a statistical reality check.

But how healthy do they have to be?

This is a deep team. I think they could weather an injury to a few key players with just a couple exceptions.

As long as they don’t experience Spagnuolo era level injuries, the Rams should contend.

    yep, you guys are right…..

the RAMS need to stay healthy and have luck on their side.

Offense wins games and defense wins championships….

and they have both a roster and a coaching staff that is good enough to put themselves in position to get lucky.

They scored 30+ points per game last year…. (gave up 20 per game)…… new roster shows that they’re better than what they did last year……

i’m eager to see how goff responds in his third season. perhaps the one guy among the key positions on this team with the MOST potential still to be tapped.

whit, gurley, cooks, donald… we all pretty much know what we’re gonna get.

goff? this guy could take the rams to another level. everybody knows it. from afar it seems like he’s got the mental makeup to thrive under the pressure.

i’m just curious how far he can take it. how good he can actually become.

I will say this. With all the talent they amassed, it is a great time to be a Rams fan.

A lot is solid and real: Talib, Peters, Shields, Roby-Coleman, Joyner, Johnson, I think (though it’s controversial) Barron, Donald obviously, Suh, Brockers, Whitworth, Sullivan, Saffold, Gurley, Woods, Cooks, the special teamers. McVay and Wade.

A lot is developing though there are positive signs. The LBs, the young OL, maybe the TEs, Kupp, Goff.

(I know know Kupp came through last year but I still see a little “green” in him so far though that could easily change.)

I know know Kupp came through last year but I still see a little “green” in him so far though that could easily change.

i think there’s a lot green left in him.

he was on the older side for a rookie, but he was still a rookie. and part of what makes me so excited about this wr corps. cuz he’s the one with the most potential to improve.

and outside of goff possibly the one guy on offense with the most untapped potential. he and everett both. but especially kupp. kinda like holt when he came into that offense as a rookie. i think that gsot offense went to another level when holt took off in his second year, and i expect kupp to do the same.
