Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher – August 19, 2014
(On Rams alumi LB Isiah Robertson’s appearance at Rams Park)
“Yes, sir. What an honor to have him in the building and out to practice. He’ll be out here for a couple of days.”
(On if Robertson’s visit was planned)
“Just decided to come in and visit with us for a couple days.”
(On if Robertson’s that’s his open door policy to Rams alumni)
“That’s right. Really, really great career you talk about his numbers and stats and everything. Remember watching him, just played the game the way you play at the linebacker position.”
(On the return of injured players to practice)
“Yeah we did, ‘Brock’ (DT Michael Brockers) came back finished up was good, (OT) Rodger (Saffold) got involved in lot of the individual stuff which was good, Janoris (Jenkins) as we expected to get him back, Kadeem (Jones) looks like he’s on the road to recovery, looks like he’ll be full speed tomorrow. So, good to get some guys back.”
(On knowing when to bring the injured players back to practice when thinking about the start of the season)
“Well, each situation is different. The reason that they’re missing time is different, dependent on the type of injury. By in large when we talk about soft tissue we’re going to be cautious and we’re going to take a couple extra days just to be sure.”
(On if it was a tough day due to the heat at practice)
“Yesterday was warm. Yesterday we got some corrections done, and of course you guys missed the penalty stuff but it was warm yesterday. Of course we weren’t in pads, but today was probably one of the warmer days. It was good.”
(On DE Ethan Westbrooks)
“There was a series of plays in the game that was quite impressive. A couple tackles for loss, a sack, a hit on the quarterback, just one play after another. Then he moved inside to tackle and was doing some stuff, so he’s really come on. He’s got obviously a couple of big weeks ahead of him but he’s shown he can do some things.”
(On if the penalty stuff yesterday meant wind sprints)
“Yes, that’s what I was referring to. We started at one (o’clock) and ended at about six (laughs). It wasn’t that bad. It’s same thing you get a couple of them you agree with, a couple of them you don’t agree with and but most of them were guys are probably not going to be in the starting position. We got it corrected on tape and we’ll probably get one more week of that.”
(On the performances of the rookie defensive backs)
“Well, we got a good group starting with the draft choices. With Lamarcus (Joyner) and (S) ‘Mo’ (Maurice Alexander), and then EJ’s (Gaines) missed a little time but he’ll get back on the field. He was doing some good things. Good to get (S) Christian (Bryant) back. Christian got to play in the game after having not played since last September. Marcus (Roberson), and (S) Avery (Cunningham) did some good things on teams, so it’s a real good group of rookies.”
(On what OL Greg Robinson’s role will be if OT Jake Long returns this weekend)
“Well, a good possibility that Jake plays this week. He’ll go to guard when Jake’s in the game and when Jake comes out, we’ll still continue to work him at tackle.”
(On if LB James Laurinaitis will play this weekend)
“Yeah, we’ve not ruled him out for this week’s game. He’s turned the corner and he was moving pretty well.”
(On how Brockers’ first practice back went)
“Like he hadn’t been hurt. I’d say that’s a good sign.”
(On if Lamarcus is in the mix for the starting nickel back position)
“Well, right now when we go nickel he’s participated with the first nickel. So, I’d say yeah he’s got a pretty good chance for that.”
