    Right now the D ranks

    7th in yards
    4th in points
    9th against the pass
    12th in rushing yards
    but 26th in YPC
8th in sacks, 12th in sack percentage

They are especially tough in the 4th quarter.

But, all that does include some numbers averaged in from playing the 20th, 28th, and 32nd ranked offenses. Only one offense they played so far is top 10 (LAC). The rest are middle of the pack-ish (13th-15th).

What needs to be watched is that they alternate weeks where they control the run at the YPC level (last 2 games & Minn), get run on heavily and the YPC is bad (Seattle), or aren’t run against but the YPC is troubling anyway (first 3 games). In fact right now they are 26th in YPC in spite of being 12th in rushing yards. Is there steady improvement after the Seattle running game D disaster or will that stand up to big tests?

Giving up big play passing TDs is another issue that comes in and out of being a problem. Has that been straightened out?

And of course in terms of sacks, they started out very slow, picked up, then exploded yesterday. Will that last? (I notice Littleton has 2 sacks yesterday which means they are involving him more.)

We’ll know for sure what this D is after a few games. GB, N.O., KC. Ranked (respectively) 4th, 6th, and 3rd.

At WORST it’s not going to be a bad one…it has too many playmakers for that. I just wonder what “at best” will look like.

Says captain obvious, we’ll know soon enough.

I’m not film guy, but it appears that something has changed because they’re getting sacks now. I don’t know why, though. It could be they are putting more emphasis on it, or changed the tactics a bit, or because the OLs they’ve faced aren’t as good, or just plain flukiness.

It makes sense to use Littleton. That boy clearly knows how to find his way through an OL. It’s ridiculous, really, they way he gets though on punts. In any event, we just don’t hear Ebukam’s number called more than once a game. He is fairly invisible.

I am concerned about the D. Even with Talib, it was giving up too much.

What is the best case scenario for Talib? Is it the KC game? Or the week after? It’s 8 weeks, innit? So…it’s been 4? Vikes, Seas, Broncos, 9ers. So after KC.

The best defense is a good punter. And right now Hekker is lost.

Thats what we need to worry about.

special teams could be special again. gz is hopefully healthy. natson looked really good.

so that just leaves the defense for me. i still don’t have an opinion either way. too hard to tell. but yeah. some big tests coming up.
