Mike McCarthy on the year round training required for offensive lineman to get what they need as professional NFL football players. Once again pointing to the value@BigDuke50 and @OLMasterminds brings to the table for not only the Cowboys but for OL around the nation. Rookies Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe have both already begun training with OL Masterminds. Consider it a blessing to have that resource for these guys, but an even bigger blessing that all of them utilize it! #Cowboyslink for vid: https://x.com/larimore_ben/status/1790628046858236352
May 23, 2024 at 9:06 am #151016znModeratorThe Xs and Os with Greg Cosell: Inside the NFL’s press coverage revolution
May 23, 2024 7:31 am ET.Over the last few seasons in the NFL, a lot of coaches and executives have tailored their defensive schemes in one specific fashion — an increase in press coverage from their cornerbacks. Not only the old-school aggressive press-man coverage we all know, but also mirror-match press man coverage, where a cornerback trails the receiver through his route as the route is declared.
Why? Because NFL offenses have found all kinds of ways to beat the old Seattle Cover-3 stuff from a decade ago with 3×1 and 2×2 receiver sets, and the route concepts inherent in those deployments. Now, if you’re rolling out that “Country Cover-3,” your defense is going to be in trouble.
There’s also the element of quick game in the league, which has increased in recent years. When the quarterback is throwing out of zero- to three-step drops, there are times when edge defenders simply don’t have time to get to the quarterback before the ball comes out. So, logic dictates that if you can’t disrupt the quarterback in the timing of the down, you need to disrupt the timing of the receivers’ routes, forcing the quarterback to delay his reads and throws, and giving those pass-rushers that extra split millisecond to get home.
In this week’s edition of “The Xs and Os,” Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup, and Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire and the USA Today Sports Media Group, investigate the NFL’s changes in press coverage, and the players who do it the best, including...
- L’Jarius Sneed of the Titans;
- A.J. Terrell of the Falcons;
- Martin Emerson Jr. of the Browns;
- Patrick Surtain Jr. of the Broncos;
- Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner of the Jets; and
- Joey Porter Jr. of the Steelers.

Kansas City Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo – Defending Multiple Offenses– Offenses are so multiple now, you can’t feed your players everything.
– Make sure you’re defending those (Offensive Staples) the right way, knowing that half the game you’re going to see things you have not prepared for. Then it’s just your scheme & how well it’s been fundamentally coached.
– All these things we do analytically, you get in the middle of a game & it goes so fast, sometimes you’re just going off of instinct & fall back on what you know you/your players can do well.

End of OTAs? The NFL Players Association is working to finalize a proposal to overhaul the offseason starting as soon as 2025, eliminating voluntary on-field work in the spring in favor of a longer training camp ramp-up, with players reporting in mid-June to early July, per sources..
Jason Cole@JasonCole62The owners say they want 18 games. The players say they want more time away in the offseason. You can see where this is going. The only issue is that the players will not get a higher take of the gross in the process when they could get BOTH time off AND a higher take.May 28, 2024 at 5:10 pm #151054znModeratorMay 29, 2024 at 7:35 pm #151070June 3, 2024 at 11:30 am #151101znModeratorSportsCenter@SportsCenterJustin Jefferson is not only the highest-paid WR in NFL history, but the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell @AdamSchefter.Joel Corry@corryjoelA WR as the highest paid non-QB isn’t unprecedented. Very short version of where things stand with 49ers and their receivers:
1) They drafted Pearsall in the first round. He is a big part of the present and the future.
2) If Aiyuk ends up taking their best offer, Deebo will be gone after 2024.
3) If Aiyuk doesn’t take their best offer, and (presumably) plays on the fifth-year option, it’s Hunger Games between him and Deebo to see who stays beyond 2024.
4) There’s still a chance Aiyuk or Deebo could be traded between now and the November deadline, if the offer’s good enough and/or if things have devolved with Aiyuk.June 19, 2024 at 3:03 pm #151241wvParticipantConsensus among celebrity-punditz iz, the Texans will be awesome next season. I dunno if they will or not, but i didnt know they accomplished a lot last year despite some serious injury situations:
“….Houston set a new record with 82.1 AGL, which surpassed the previous record set by the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. The Texans shuffled constantly throughout the regular season, starting seven different offensive line combinations. No group up front played more than four consecutive games together.
Texans right guard Shaq Mason was the only lineman to play all 17 regular season games. Green, tackle Tytus Howard, and rookie linemen Jarrett Patterson and Juice Scruggs each accounted for 10 AGL.
The lack of continuity up front likely contributed to the running game struggles. Houston averaged 3.7 yards per carry, tied with the Las Vegas Raiders for fourth-worst in the league. The Texans’ pass blocking was slightly better, with 47 sacks surrendered — just outside the bottom-10 in the league….”

By game 12 in 2022 the Rams had started 12 different OL combinations. It’s an NFL record.
But you know, 7 OL combinations in a season, that’s pretty bad too I guess…🤒

June 21, 2024 at 2:22 pm #151247wvParticipantBrady is a good listen, here, I think. He will make a good analyst for Fox. I dont think he will ever resonate with fans the way, say, Madden did though. Brady has this weird quiet intensity and knowledge. Which is great. But he lacks…oh…humor. Or somethin. Somethin he cant get by working hard or studying the ‘craft’ of tv-talking.
Ya either got the humor thing or you dont.
He has high praise for Scarneccia (sp?) here, not surprisingly. Said Scar coached the practice squad guys as meaningfully as the starters. “Everybody on the Patriots got coached”

Everyone knows this but I still like to harp on the fact that the Rams OL coach, Ryan Wendell, played under Scarnecchia. Played center in fact.
June 23, 2024 at 12:03 am #151252znModeratorPro Football Rumors@pfrumorsBrandon Aiyuk’s asking price on a #49ers extension has changed based on this offseason’s other receiver deals. The team has moved on from trade consideration, but the stalled status of negotiations remains the source of questions on his future.As had been speculated, #49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is reportedly shooting for guaranteed money in the mid-to-upper-$80MM range on his next contract, which would be a new record. -
