“My sense was that it wouldn’t work out long term because of Sean Payton’s coaching belief and philosophy…”@GregCosell has been saying since before the season he didn’t think Russell Wilson and Sean Payton would be a good fit. Here’s why: pic.twitter.com/GSCGfssc1F

December 29, 2023 at 7:04 am #148033znModeratorKurt Warner@kurt13warnerOutside of #JoeFlacco SB playoff run, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him play better!!! Loved the fit with @Browns from the start, but he is playing incredibly well & even making some WOW throws while moving w/ guys hanging all over him! Can’t wait to see where this goes?!.
Browns are now the first team in NFL history to make the playoffs after starting four different quarterbacks in the same season.
The man who made it possible is former Browns’ practice squader Joe Flacco, who is 4-1 as Cleveland’s QB. pic.twitter.com/C0mLWPyDaN

December 29, 2023 at 4:55 pm #148047wvParticipantLooked like KC wasnt missing a beat when they traded Tyreek Hill, but i think its caught up with them. There is just no way you replace a guy like Hill. No way. I think Hill and Mahomes were the most dangerous duo in modern NFL history. Maybe more than, say, Brady and Moss. I dunno.
I’m sure there are other factors in KC’s regression, but i know losing Hill is part of it.

December 30, 2023 at 11:26 am #148067znModeratorIs back to back years now, you have high profile quarterbacks getting benched over injury guarantees once their teams are out of it.
The league wants stars on the field, whether teams are in it or not. Folks at the shield are likely not happy about this…let alone at the NFLPA. https://t.co/r5c50KJ4GA

Referee Brad Allen may have cost the Detroit Lions a win against the Dallas Cowboys
We at Touchdown Wire have had issues with referee Brad Allen before, and with good reason. And now, it’s entirely possible that Allen and his crew cost the Detroit Lions a win they should have had.
Here was the situation. The Lions went right down the field against the Dallas Cowboys down 20-19 starting with 1:41 left in the fourth quarter. The Lions had that much time because Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy called three straight passes before a field goal that put Dallas up 20-13. Dallas then gave quarterback Jared Goff all the soft coverage he could ever dream of having, which allowed Goff to drive his team downfield and hit receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for an 11-yard touchdown with 27 seconds left.
Then, head coach Dan Campbell called for a two-point conversion, as is his wont, and it looked for all the world that Goff hit offensive tackle Taylor Decker in the end zone for the successful try that would have given the Lions a 21-20 lead. But Allen called an illegal touch pass on the play, saying that Decker didn’t report as an eligible receiver.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the game,”70 [tackle Dan Skipper] reported, 68 [Decker] didn’t. That was the explanation.”
Well, here’s the problem with that. ESPN, who had the game, had clear video evidence of Goff telling Decker to report as eligible. And there is clear video evidence of Decker going over to do just that.

Lions ‘confused’ as refs negate late 2-point try in Cowboys win
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39213838/cowboys-hang-penalty-nixes-lions-2-point-conversion
ARLINGTON, Texas — Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell was visibly frustrated after a controversial penalty negated what would have been a go-ahead 2-point conversion late in Saturday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.Officials flagged Lions offensive lineman Taylor Decker after he caught a pass that appeared to be the potential winner with 23 seconds left. However, Decker was called for an illegal touching penalty for not reporting as eligible.
The Cowboys ultimately denied the Lions’ 2-point try and won 20-19.
“Would you be frustrated right now?” Campbell said afterward. “I don’t like losing, and that’s what happened. We lost, and that bothers me. I don’t like having an L, so that’s the frustration.”
The Lions and the refs gave contradictory accounts afterward, with quarterback Jared Goff saying definitively that Decker, the Lions’ starting left tackle, reported as an eligible receiver and that Dan Skipper, a backup offensive tackle, did not. Skipper also said afterward that he did not report to an official.
However, in a pool report, referee Brad Allen said the opposite, that Skipper reported to him as eligible and Decker did not.
“Therefore, he is an ineligible touching a pass that goes beyond the line, which makes it a foul,” Allen said of Decker in the pool report. “So, the issue is, number 70 did report, number 68 did not.”
Video showed Decker having a conversation with Allen, who then said something to the Cowboys’ defense.
“That conversation is where [Skipper] reports to me, and I then go to the defensive team, and I say to them, ‘[Skipper] has reported as an eligible receiver,’ so they will be aware of who has reported,” Allen said in the pool report.
Inside the Lions’ locker room after the loss, Decker and Skipper declined to speak in depth about the penalty. Instead, Decker said he did “exactly what Coach told me to do.” Skipper said he had “very few words that aren’t going to get me fined.”
With 1:41 remaining on Detroit’s final drive and the Lions trailing 20-13, Campbell told his players that they were going for the win and would continue to be aggressive.
Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught an 11-yard touchdown from Goff with 23 seconds remaining that brought Detroit to within 20-19. But the Lions failed on three 2-point conversion attempts. The first two attempts were called back by penalties, one against the Lions and one against the Cowboys, and the final play was an incomplete pass to tight end James Mitchell.
Goff said he was “pretty confused” by the flag on Decker.
“Yeah, that sucks. It’s unfortunate, man,” Goff said. “I don’t know if I’ve had this feeling before where you feel like you’ve won, and you didn’t. With that being said though, the next two plays we had shots at it.”
December 31, 2023 at 6:59 am #148082znModeratorThe big difference for the @MiamiDolphins' defense? Jalen Ramsey. Since Ramsey was activated, Miami has an INT% of 3.7, which is the same as their touchdown allowed rate.
Before Ramsey? 4.0% TD, 1.1% INT. @gregcosell and I get into it. https://t.co/OjgMKs8VSJ pic.twitter.com/XvN6Fr4evn

One Super Bowl win in 2008.
One Super Bowl loss in 2010. (also won a ring as an assistant with Tampa, btw)
As head coach: 172-100-2
Post season 8-9
7 division titles.
So, is he a great coach? Something less than that? Would we be happy with that as Ram fans?
