    Someone in the audience yelled “Answer it!” I can confirm it wasn’t Les Snead because he is 5 feet from me. I’m not sure about McVay. Demoff said, “This is more important right now.”

    Pro Football Talk just tweeted that the Los Angeles Rams will have a press conference set for Tuesday to “discuss” the Aaron Donald deal:

    This is interesting, particularly for the “maximum P.R. impact” angle. Maximizing the impact of public relations fits the Rams’ business operations under COO/Vice President of Operations Kevin Demoff.

    The timing is strange though. It may have something to do with a major college football game on Monday night between Florida State and Virginia Tech blanketing ESPN networks. It also comes out of the Labor Day weekend as we slingshot into Week 1 of the regular season.

    As recently reported, the talks have seriously heated up from both the Rams and Donald’s side, as there is a reported urgency to get this deal done with the regular season creeping up in days.

    For a saga that seemed like it was never ending, this suggests it’s finally coming to a bright end for both sides. Though it took long, one thing was for certain: neither side was ready for a divorce.

    Rams GM Les Snead, on McVay’s massive Aaron Donald optimism: “Sean definitely is not speaking out of turn. He is well aware of updates, but nothing has agreed upon.” Snead said he would avoid going into details about negotiations or their recent progress.

    Let’s put this Rams/Aaron Donald stuff in its proper place. The coach says he thinks it could get done soon. The GM says the coach didn’t talk out of turn. Put the pieces together, and clearly it’s Donald Watch time.

    Sean McVay is usually so cool, calm and collected. But his giddiness over the Aaron Donald contract situation can’t be contained.

    Update: Demoff did step out of the room for a few minutes following his speech for a phone call.

    Over the last 12 months, the top of the QB market has gone from $27M per year (Matthew Stafford) to $33.5M (Aaron Rodgers). That’s a 24.1% increase. If Khalil Mack or Aaron Donald could do the same for non-QBs, they would get deals averaging approximately $23.675M per year.
