2014 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Should Trade Up For Johnny Manziel
Peter Aiken- USA TODAY Sports
It is no secret that this year’s NFL draft class is stacked with talent, especially when it comes to the quarterback position. It is also no secret that the Minnesota Vikings are in desperate need of a quarterback that can lead them to the playoffs.
This may seem like a small stretch, but why not trade up so you can select one of the better available quarterbacks? This is in no way a shot against Derek Carr, who is currently projected to be selected by the Vikings with the No. 8 overall pick. The Vikings currently have three different options at the quarterback position in Christian Ponder, Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman. Each one of these players has talent, but in no way is any one of them capable of leading a team to a division championship or even the playoffs, especially in a hotly contested division like the NFC North.
So what are the Vikings to do? Should the team stick with the players currently on the roster or should they make a move for a player in the draft like Derek Carr? No, Minnesota should trade up and make a move for the most electrifying player in college football, Johnny Manziel.
Think about Manziel on the same field with players like Adrian Peterson, Cordarrelle Patterson, Kyle Rudolph and Greg Jennings; that is a lot of firepower right there. Obviously, the first thing for the Vikings to do is find a new head coach. Once that is settled, there should be some serious thought put into trading up a spot or two in order to select Johnny Football.
Manziel is the best option for the Vikings, and if the organization is willing to make a move for him then the face of the NFC North would change completely. Imagine a game between Aaron Rodgers and Manziel; dang, that would be one hot ticket.
