Question for zn/zooey about your students’ writing assignments
My wife was playing around with an AI app. She let me read some of the stuff it wrote. Amazing (frighteningly so) how coherently it could formulate sentences. My wife is a physician and she asked the app to generate a hand-out targeted to Spanish-speaking people about a specific medical issue and it was really well done. She said she couldn’t have written it better.
My question is how can you tell if your students are using AI to write their assignments? I suppose a sudden and dramatic improvement in their writing skills would be a clue, but if you’re seeing a student’s writing for the first time, that’s no help. I know there are computer programs designed to spot plagiarism, but what can you do for this?
