The Philadelphia Eagles made a trade on Wednesday to move up to Cleveland’s #2 overall selection in next weekend’s draft. The Eagles also get a 4th rounder in the 2017 draft in exchange for their #8 pick this year, a 3rd and 4th-rounder this year, next year’s 1st-round pick, and a 2nd-rounder in 2018.

The Eagles clearly made the move to get one of the top QB’s in this draft. We don’t think they would make this deal unless they liked both QB’s. But if they have a specific player in mind, they will have to make a deal with the Rams, who have the #1 pick.

For the Browns, this is the embodiment of the Moneyball philosophy, trading down to acquire more picks. It will be interesting to see what they now do with the #8 pick. Will they take a player like Ezekiel Elliott? We might applaud that move. Could they trade down to #15 with Tennessee, who might want to package picks to get back into the top ten?

The interesting thing here is that you have two franchises with QB needs making big commitments to move into position to select one, while the Browns, who need a QB as badly as any team, doesn’t seem to care. Do they have a deal for a veteran brewing? Do they like another QB in this draft class? Do they think the answer lies in Josh McCown or RGIII?

It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. The early opinions on next year’s QB class are not extremely positive.
