McVay says that Young was green last year but this spring, it looks like he has come a long way. If that holds up, it’s a great development.

    that was an interesting conversation.

    From that conversation:

    Front 7:

“But I am really excited and encouraged about the opportunity for us to see what that looks like. I’m so grateful for everything that he did, but I think we’ve got some young guys that I think have a chance. I think Kobie Turner’s a really good player. We’ve got some other young guys. I think Bobby Brown made a really good jump last year and I’m expecting that much more from him. We drafted Braden Fiske and Tyler Davis. And then on the edges, I think Byron Young is going to take a major leap. I think Michael Hoecht is a really versatile player that we can do a better job utilizing his skill set to not put him in some of the harder downs that he was in last year. And I’m really excited about Jared Verse.”

espn recently named him as a surprise breakout player for the rams.

that guy has all the physical ability in the world. and he’s turning 24 this year. same age as verse and fiske. so yeah. another name to watch out for in camp.

if fiske can have a good rookie year. if brown can make a jump. if verse has a good rookie year. and if young and turner can build on early success, then maybe the rams won’t miss donald.

    the best news.

it looks like he did a lot of self reflection and has decided he really wants to continue coaching for a long time.

I always have two reactions to the ‘it was dark…etc’ stuff in those kinds of contexts.

On the one hand, I think to myself, ‘well thats insightful on his part, he’s being honest and working on himself, and it helps others for him to admit things, etc etc etc’.

On the other hand — the wv-raging-leftist-hand, i think to myself…’well, he’s a white, male, multi-millionaire, privileged mega-star, whining about first-world-problems, while people in other places are being bombed and starved and mutilated….so, maybe his problem is not really so ‘dark’.   Etc.   And so forth.    Buzzkill, i know.

haha. i hear you. his problems pale in comparison to most people on this planet. i sometimes even have to catch myself when i start getting a little too grumpy.

but in the context of multi-millionaire white male corporate executives it was dark. i think of dick vermeil when he left the eagles completely burned out. and i’m happy that mcvay has seemingly avoided that.

and also with mcvay this is the world he was born into. he was born into “football royalty”. this is probably the only world he really knows. he’s young. maybe his world view matures as he gets older. hopefully?
