December 20, 2023 at 5:30 am #147678znModeratorThe NFL Management Council informed clubs that it won’t provide a salary cap projection this week. But "business is booming" and the cap could exceed $240 million when set.

December 20, 2023 at 5:39 am #147679znModerator“business is booming” and the cap could exceed $240 million when set.
If the cap is 240 M (and the message says it could exceed that) then next year, the Rams would have this much in space: 43 M or so. Strangely, while that’s good, it’s actually not that much. They can maybe get 2-3 FAs out of that, including their own, and they have to think about guys like Dotson and Witherspoon.
Though depending on how they use the June 1 designations, they could get up to another 20 M by releasing Noteboom and Allen.
The estimated league cap number was higher previously, but analysts have been sobering up on that.
This for example is from Over.The.Cap:
My expectation was that the salary cap has continued to be deflated due to the Covid impacts (without Covid, for example, the cap should have been $228-$229M this year without any new TV money) but that there would be a catch up period that would start in 2024, which would also coincide with the new TV money kicking in and push the cap significantly up. Per multiple sources within the NFL that does not appear to be the case and many are working with a salary cap limit for next year of about $242 million and so I will be adjusting the numbers accordingly on OTC.

On the other end of it no team had a better offseason than the Rams. They shaved off $58M in 24 cap charges during that timeframe and are in the playoffs. pic.twitter.com/fYsJNJ7s2q

He has been a valuable 6th guy. A very valuable 6th guy.
But they are paying him starter money, and so cap variables are going to decide his fate.

Yeah. You put it more diplomatically. I also think that some guys that looked like keepers previously are not as much anymore under Ryan Wendell. That includes someone like Anchrum.
January 22, 2024 at 4:57 pm #148974znModeratorRamsoholic@ShayTweetedThatRams are at number 10 for salary cap in 2024. Now look at how many guys we have signed. 51, compare to NFC teams here that ARE contending in the BUCS and LIONS who both are 38 and 40 players signed with the Goff deal coming in SOON. Rams have their core intact.…February 20, 2024 at 7:38 pm #149458znModeratorfrom https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2024/2/20/24078430/rams-salary-cap-space-2024-free-agents
Rumors emerged on Monday that the salary cap could be $243 million, but PFT’s Mike Florio reported that a source said the number will be much higher and could be $250 million. That would mean that L.A. doesn’t have roughly $28 million in cap space; they have more like $36 million.

With the increase, according to OverTheCap, the Rams are set to have $41.3M in effective cap space heading into free agency. This is before any contract restructures or other potential cap casualties. Los Angeles should have plenty of money to spend during free agency and replenish talent on their roster.
February 24, 2024 at 1:44 am #149526znModeratorMike Garafolo@MikeGarafoloMentioned the effect of the salary cap bump on free agency but it extends beyond that to extensions this offseason for the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, etc. Their agents’ expectations surely just went up, oh I don’t know, about 13%.…Me: in other words, when the cap goes up, so do free agency contract numbers.February 26, 2024 at 4:03 am #149556znModerator[quote quote=149504]The NFL informed teams today that the 2024 salary cap will be $255.4M, per @jjones9. Or more like 46 M.
FEB 23 CAP RISING According to a release from the NFL, the league salary cap is set to see an unprecedented increase for the 2024 season. The change will increase the cap to $255.4 million and give teams $30 million more this offseason.
“The unprecedented $30 million increase per club in this year’s salary cap is the result of the full repayment of all amounts advanced by the clubs and deferred by the players during the Covid pandemic, as well as an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season,” the NFL said in the statement.
As a result of the increase, the Rams will have approximately $46 million in total cap space.
In other words, the Rams will have more flexibility to bring back an impact player they otherwise could have lost like Kevin Dotson, or sign an impact free agent like Brian Burns or Danielle Hunter.
March 4, 2024 at 3:42 am #149634znModeratorover.the.cap.com still has Rams at just over 40 M in cap space…this is in disparity with sportsrac, which has them at 46 M. Over.the.cap link: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space

March 9, 2024 at 2:41 am #149708InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if it’s possible but i’d really like to see the rams go big on a fa pass rusher. and then use the draft to get some defensive backs. pass rushers usually take longer to develop and they need one to make an immediate impact.
March 9, 2024 at 2:44 am #149709InvaderRamModeratorand also get one or two bargain free agents on top of that.

The Rams need an Edge, but I think CB is a bigger need. And part of that is just what you say: pass rushers take longer to develop.
Now, last year, the Rams got good production in the pass rush out of Kobie Turner and Byron Young. They may well improve this year. I expect them to. Add to that, and the Rams are in business.
But the CB dept. is weaker. I would like Witherspoon to be the second-best CB on the field.

i like cooper dejean. he’s the closest thing to jalen ramsey in this draft. and he could be available at 19. he’s athletic. he’s versatile. he’s physical.
this off-season has me excited. i have no clue what this team will do, but i’m sure it’s going to completely catch me off guard.

March 26, 2024 at 8:27 am #150098znModeratorBlaine Grisak@bgrisakTSTWith the Kam Curl contract, the Rams have about $13.5M in effective cap space. Again, that effective cap space number accounts for the rookie class. Just need Jimmy G’s official contract numbers. Should put Rams around $10M which is where they like to be.March 26, 2024 at 5:42 pm #150103znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueA couple notes from Tony Pastoors with more coming @TheAthletic. Aaron Donald’s option was not exercised (this is different from restructure to bonus). A “fake year” in 2026 was prorated back into 2024. Donald’s cap number will be for approximately $24M, $9M in 2025..Jimmy G’s cap number is appx. $2.85/$2.9M. It has a lot of play time, starts, snaps, wins and playoffs incentives. Not restructuring big contracts now gives Rams levers to pull if space is needed ahead of the trade deadline. Unlikely. They like to carry a cushion into the season.
Maybe a bargain “ronin” type like Robinson and Witherspoon were last year.
