What makes Aaron Donald’s dominance extra amazing is the #Rams have done almost nothing schematically to help him get 1-on-1 blocking. They likely will this year.

    Well….why would that be true?

I think it makes sense looked at this way. Donald hasn’t been in camp to work with and scheme around. Plus of course not being there means he had to pick up new developments in the scheme on the fly after missing OTAs, camp, and the pre-season. I also think they were counting on Donald to draw attention, freeing up other things. I think now they are going to put more wrinkles in when it comes to all that.

I get the impression this year that Wade is doing all sorts of things schematically to take advantage of what he has. So much so that it could have a direct effect on the unit’s identity. For example both Wade and the players have talked about how the secondary will be using subpackages taking advantage of certain players’s strengths plus counting on the versatility of some of their DBs to disguise defensive looks…all more than they have in the past. I would imagine that would fit in with scheming edge rushers into advantageous positions and also it could mean scheming AD into more 1-on-1 match-ups. Weddle and Matthews help with all that because they’re both savvy vets plus can both line up in different spots all over the formation.

It’s the year of brainstorming on defense, apparently.

XFL will be keeping an eye on backup QB competitions, including Seattle’s

    Ryan Glasspiegel@sportsrapport
Another element to this, if XFL signs QBs who lose competitions right away, is that by midseason with injury attrition the always-thin QB scrap heap will be even thinner for the NFL.

This dynamic could cause some NFL teams to carry three quarterbacks instead of two in 2019.

Everett’s having his breakout season in 2019 would go a long way towards Rams quest to return to SB, especially with Kupp coming off knee surgery. It very well could be 2020 until we see Kupp returning to former self? Edelman struggled with Pats last season but came alive in playoffs as he recovered from knee surgery in 2018. Think best we can hope is Kupp is former self by midpoint of season?

Just fwiw. Non-Rams related but interesting IMO. No Ram in this top 10.
