TE was a big part of McVay’s O in Washington. I think it is interesting that no passes went to a TE. No targets to a TE. Maybe he went away from them because he knew Gruden would expect him to go to them, or do our TE’s just suck?

    There are tax ramifications, no?

If you were going to make $1M a year for the next 5 years, but suddenly get $4M this year, you’re going to owe a lot more taxes this year, especially if it pushes you into a higher tax bracket.

I know, nice problem to have, but it is a consideration and the player should be given some props for agreeing to it.

I’d love to see that, but it has to be done right. BTW, what’s with the cartoons? Was there an Amber cartoon series back in the day?

    Yep. That’s the place.

Nice city you live in, Zack.

Cape Elizabeth, holy crap! I thought I was in Westchester County, NY or Stamford, CT.

For all these years, we’ve been going to Popham Beach. Never knew there were areas of Maine that looked just like Fairfield County / Westchester County.

    Hey, Ag.

Just got home from vacation. I re-read Zelazny’s “Lord of Light” on the beach. What a great novel…

He was always up there in my pantheon, just not as high as Phil Dick; a must read, especially NOW.

One correction: The oyster bar on Washington Ave wasn’t “The Spot”, it was “The Shop”. $1.50 per oyster, which, by Boston and Connecticut standards is very reasonable. We ordered a dozen, and they put caviar on 4, a cucumber – cilantro sorbet or 4 and left the last 4 as is (no charge for the extra toppings). The savory sorbet was interesting. The caviar was salty, but I also added cocktail sauce and horseradish. My favorite was still the plain oyster with cocktail sauce and horseradish. Nice appetizer while tooling around town.

“Good enough to win the NFC” is a tough thing to predict when we haven’t even seen our one’s on the field of play this season…
Personally, I think the NFC is the tougher division and the Vikings, Eagles, Saints and Falcons are all pretty damn good.
I travel a lot in the Boston area. This time of year last year, all the talk on Sports Radio was, “Can the Patriots go undefeated?” Well, they got beaten in Week 1.

I’m goin g to take these games one week at a time. It’s Raiders week. Go Rams!

That was a strange looking crow to me. Looked like it had some white feathers. All the crows I have ever seen in the Northeast have been pure black. I’m sure my Northeastern crows would have kicked ass on that ski boarding task…

The wife and I just got back from seeing Bill live at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT. About 1.25 hrs of stand-up. We purposely didn’t watch his stand up special, because we figured that was going to be the show. Will watch it now to see how closely they aligned.
    Good time; funny man.

    Wow.

Almost every one of my quotes is actually a misquote (except “Kahn!” hard to mess that one up).
“These go to 11” vs “This one goes to 11”, “Heineken, fuck that shit” vs “Heineken, fuck Heineken” (Blue Velvet) etc.
Just hammers home that the brain isn’t just a storage unit, it is also editor in chief.

    Well played, ZN, well played.

Strange we play the Raiders in preseason and then they are our first real opponent.
The Giants play the Jets every year in preseason.
Why aren’t we playing the Chargers?

Am watching it now. Pretty awesome first car chase scene.

I remember a friend telling me they saw it in the theater and it was very good.

I watched a movie on some strange cable channel last night called “Roger Waters’ The Wall”. It was a combination of concert footage and some deeply personal Roger Waters stuff. I admire him more than before I saw it (and he was pretty high up there to begin with).

Not only did his dad die in WW2 when he was very young, his grandfather died in WW1 when his dad was 2. He went and visited the memorials in between the tour.

Funny, I don’t remember ever hearing this one as a Sunday Gospel:

The Bible, a rich and sprawling book, offers another angle on these matters. At one point in the New Testament, Jesus calls a child over and says, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

I’m struggling to redefine my moral compass as my mother lays on her death bed.

I was raised Catholic, and grew up in the fear of that vengeful god. Now I’m old and unafraid it is time for re-assessment:

Is the above quote really from the Bible? Doesn’t sound like something “my” Jesus would say.

Why does my 94 year old mother have to go through her life’s savings just to die a slow motion, almost scripted death (get me on the last train to Amsterdam when my time is near…).

    Name that song:

We live for just these twenty years
Do we have to die for the fifty more?

OK, it is Young Americans by David Bowie, who knew a thing or two about dying, and, in my opinion, did it well.

I have to go pick up a sister at the airport, and my daughter is taking the train from Boston. Hopefully they both get here in time.

I don’t know what to believe any more (and haven’t for a while). Definitely not the Catholic god; but is it just life and not life? Is there anything of us that makes it past the divide?

I can’t believe in the Catholic god. I’m hopeful there is a hereafter, but the scientist in me says that when you’re gone, you’re gone.

AB was the cat’s meow… Kitchen Confidential was so True to Life. I was in that sub-culture as a bartender for over 10 years of my life (probably took another 15 or 20 off my life expectancy…).

Loved the book, watched him when it aligned with whatever I was doing, sad to see him go but glad he was here.

Have there been clear connections between head trauma and ALS? If there haven’t been, I think there should be because of how many athletes end up dying from this condition.
