NERamParticipant
Btw, this has been hard, trying to ignore the NFL the past few weeks. The NFL Playoffs was always my favorite sporting event, even with the Rams rarely in it. But, I have to try. I haven’t missed a Super Bowl since I can remember. It will be really weird not having it on in my house. It’s SUPER weird not watching the playoffs. I actually turned on an old episode of Columbo during the Arizona-Green Bay game.
This bothers me.
Back in 1995, I was not even aware that there was such a thing as an internet board, where you could read and write about the Rams, and share ideas, discussions, and emotional highs and lows regarding the wins & losses.
Perhaps if I was involved with one back then, I would have had stronger feelings for the fans of LA and their sense of loss than I did.
Rooting for the Rams, from CT, I really don’t care where the stadium is. I will still follow them, from my nomadic perch.
But seeing how much this has affected the people from St Louis, has affected me. And I am also getting a taste of what LA fans went through way back when, even though I didn’t have the vehicle to make me aware of it.
Again. Sorry, Dak. Sorry, St Louis.
NERamParticipantI can’t root for the Cards as long as Arians is HC.
Yes.
Can’t root for New England until the temperature in Hell drops below 0 degrees C.
Yes, yes, and more yes.
Manning? Gag.
I’m ok with Manning, and Denver in general. No ill wishes.I guess it’s the Panthers by default.
That would work. I was ticked off at the time, but I guess I got over the Bradford injury.
Just no Patriots. If you sell your soul to the devil, isn’t there some sort of time limit on the payoff? How long can these guys keep enjoying successful seasons?
NERamParticipantLet them eat cake.
NERamParticipantI can’t even imagine what a complex like that would bring in on a yearly basis.
Anyone?
Kinda hoping for a minimum of 9 wins… 😉
How’s that for a start?
NERamParticipantI really enjoyed your reviews, always a good read.
You consistently came up with a humorous comment, week after week, that made me chuckle, such as this line from the final 49ers game this year – “Also, they weirdly commented after halftime that they thought there would be more offense. These were the worst two offenses in the league! 16-10 at halftime is a shootout for these two!”
Being a Rams fan hasn’t been rosy for a long time, but that little bit of humor made it a little easier.
Thanks.
NERamParticipantWell, I’m in favor of having another
Brain involved in the passing game.
I dont care if its a brain in a jar,
or spocks brain, or a giant squid brain.w
vI thought they already had tried the squid brain. Didn’t work out so well.
NERamParticipantOpen mailbox?
Yes, open mailbox.
From 7 yards away.
With the little red flag sticking up.
NERamParticipantExcept the only consequence of Massey dragging his knuckles across the turf would be deep gouges in the stadium floor.
And so that’s why the Rams needed a new stadium? It wasn’t really greed after all, just a damaged playing field? Wow, you have restored my faith in humanity, and also NFL owners… Thank you for that.
I shall go outside now, in 25 degree weather, and practice long snapping empty milk containers at the mailbox, in contrite obeisance.
NERamParticipantI think I’d like to understand this whole issue of turf toe a lil better.
I mean, is grass better or worse for turf toe? I think you can get it on turf or grass. I think. Maybe.
I’ve seen games lost, seasons ruined and careers shattered by this horrid injury.
Is the new stadium gonna have grass or turf?? Could our fearless warriors be taken from turf and made to play on grass for a spell, and then rudely yanked off that and sent back to turf again?
Makes ya think, don’t it? Lots to consider.
I have a conspiracy theory that that’s what happened to Massey, BTW. He got injured on turf, only it wasn’t his toe, it was his knuckle, draggin along the turf like that every snap. And then, because turf knuckle wasn’t a commonly accepted ailment, they couldn’t legally put him on IR. And that was it. Pffffft. Gone.
NERamParticipantMan, that sucks.
Really look forward to his commentary, every week.
Hope its only temporary…
NERamParticipantSorry for St. Louis, and anybody, really, who is feeling kicked in the mouth over this.
I’ve been rooting for this team since 1967, always from CT, so I’ve never had the opportunity to call them my home team. Just my team. So, I don’t have any real emotional stake in this. I watch the games on the internet, I don’t spend money for seats, food, drinks, or trinkets. No real investment, other than 3 hours a week of my time. And to be honest, with some of the play of the past decade, I’ve wondered if even that wasn’t too much of an investment.
In my earlier years, the big business aspect didn’t seem as prevalent, it was just the players who seemed to play out their careers on the same team, a lot more than they do now. The greedy bastard owners were always there, but it just didn’t seem to manifest itself so much.
Right or wrong, I look at this as just another greedy bastard making another greedy bastard move. And this will happen again, somewhere, to another team, another city. And, next year, there will be players playing for another team, because of a more lucrative contract.
I will continue, I’m sure, to watch the games on the internet, broadcast from LA instead of St. Louis. And somehow, try to enjoy the small facet of “the game” that is now intertwined with big business. Run by greedy bastards.
NERamParticipantWell the Burfict hit was just
one of those bang-bang plays. They happen,
when yer flyin around out there.I disagree about the Burfict hit. He was head-hunting.
I agree with this. It really looked to me as if Burfict had an opportunity to pull up, but chose not to. The hit on Bridgewater when he slid looked more to me like the DB had already started the move to hit when the QB went into the slide. Plus, the Minny QB was a ball carrier, the Steeler receiver had missed the catch. Another opportunity for Burfict to pull up from delivering an unnessecary hit. The guy was not a ball carrier.
But that hit wasn’t all of it, it was a combined meltdown of the Bengals that I was referring to. Fumble, very bad. Agree with you WV, you just can’t lose the ball there. Hold it, and you win. Geeze.
So then, you fumble, then you get the stupid Burfict hit, and THEN, you have Pacman Jones pushing a ref. Instead of leaving the Steelers with 22 seconds and no timeouts from a very long FG distance, you move them into a chip shot FG. That to me is the stupid part.
NERamParticipantHoly Meltdown, Batman.
That was ugly, stupid, dumb, embarrassing, foolish and uncalled for.
IF, the Rams of the future lose a game by stupid penalties, I’m probly not gonna get too too mad at them anymore. Cause I have tonight’s game to look back on, and understand that no matter how bad things are, there’s always someone else worse off.
Bengals set a new standard of ineptitude tonight, and in grabbing a loss out of the jaws of victory.

January 8, 2016 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Nick Foles & Case Keenum: 86 Passer Rating The Key To Rams Victories #36855NERamParticipantYes, I HATE passive constructions.
Just for general info, in case anyone is interested…passive constructions are when you have the object of the verb being acted upon instead of the subject acting through the verb.
So, passive = the ball was thrown
active = I threw the ballIt’s a phoney way of trying to sound all “official.”
So instead of saying “I used a cut-off of 86” you instead go “a cut-off of 86 was used.” (Sniff, harumph.)
It’s like listening to lazy royalty. “The soup has been found to be less than satisfactory” v. “hey…I didn’t like the soup.”
The Rams were told to go make love with themselves often during their last game this year.
NERamParticipantI remember his rookie year. I had visions of the offense having to get just past midfield to get within his range…
Yes, certainly there should be competition for him.
NERamParticipantI will probably go to my grave without understanding how a blocker on a FG attempt can see an opponent on his outside shoulder, and let the guy run straight toward the kicker, without making any attempt to slow the guy down.
I know, I know, I played defense, so I have no understanding of the complexities of offensive blocking, but man, even a chip to slow the guy down for a step, would have been enough.
Absolutely cannot understand leaving someone untouched know like that.
NERamParticipantThree games ain’t enough to make an educated assessment. Win on Sunday, though, and wellllll… 😉
I do, however, like the idea of continuity. Would hate to have these guys go through another learning curve…
Keep him.
NERamParticipantEnd of the year, nothing to play for, no one wants to get hurt in a meaningless game… Yeah, yeah and yeah.
I would like to think, and hope, that in preparation for a SF game, every Rams coach since 1995 dusts off the old tape of Ken Norton Jr punching the goal post, and then plays it, alternating it along with Norton or Dana Stubblefield issuing the infamous “Same Old Sorry Ass Rams” quote.
That should be standard 9er gameday prep for the next 100 years…
Rams 28
9ers 12NERamParticipantNot sure why, but I found this one particularly amusing.
“This will be a 2-0 game in O/T
I can almost see how this game will play out… Neither team is an offensive powerhouse, so the game ends 0-0 in regulation. In overtime, we win the coin toss, take the kick off in the endzone for a touchback, then Tomsula attempts to challenge the spot at the 20 yard line but is told he can’t. Gabbert gets sacked 3 times for a loss of 21 yards and a Rams safety. End of game.”NERamParticipantI suppose i will root for Arizona
Unlike you, I won’t be rooting for anyone, Mr. Cardinals fan. But I will be rooting against some teams less than others.
In the NFC, the team I’ll be rooting against the least is Carolina.
The teams I’ll be rooting against the most are the Cardinals and Seahawks, because I’m a Rams fan and as a Rams fan I would never want something good to happen to a division rival. As a matter of fact, I would murder my first born to keep anything good from happening to either of those teams.
But that’s just how I roll because I’m a Rams fan, unlike you – an admitted Cardinals fan.
In the AFC the team I’ll be rooting against the least is the Jets, assuming they make the playoffs. The team I’ll be rooting against the most is, of course, the Pats. Because again, I’m a Rams fan. I would love to stick it to the Pats twice by having them lose in the playoffs while their hated rivals the Jets win it all.
I’ll have what he’s havin…
I like the sound of this, and agree for the most part.
Not sure about the firstborn thing, but your obvious hatred of the Patriots “warms the cockles of me ‘eart”.

NERamParticipantMan, reading some of these comments is almost as much fun as watching the “W”…
NERamParticipantBarnes is the new Massey… Clutch.
Sacrilege.
I know. Sorry. It seems that the longer they play losing seasons, the quicker I am at latching onto any perceived savior. Today it was Barnes and his 2 fumble recoveries…
IN Seattle? Are you kidding me?
w
vBarnes is the new Massey… Clutch.
Well if Barnes is the New-Massey
then who is William Hayes ?w
vI guess, seeing as how he turned CenturyLink Field into a quiet, churchlike arena, perhaps Parson Hayes? Or Pastor Hayes? Or Deac…
no no no, Parson or Pastor. Take yer pick.
NERamParticipantIN Seattle? Are you kidding me?
w
vBarnes is the new Massey… Clutch.
Seattle D???
Pfft. I twerk in their general direction.
NERamParticipantMerry Christmas, Herdsmen.
NERamParticipant“Analytics aren’t useful” said Belichick. He went on to add “What is useful, is knowing your opponents practice schedule and having access to their practice facility. That’s how you win football games. Shit, did I just say that out loud?”
🙂
December 22, 2015 at 9:28 am in reply to: is Seattle facing the most demoralizing loss in its history? #35904NERamParticipantKind of thinking that Harri(ed) Keenum lives up to his name.
NERamParticipantWell….what about QB ?
Ya know.
What about that.
w
vI have already sent Foles off to the Russian Front, and am happily digging my spurs into the haunches of the new horse called”Keenum”
“Keenum finished up with just 17 passes, completing 14 for 234 yards. With those two TDs and no interceptions, Keenum’s passer rating was 158.0, just short of a perfect rating of 158.3.”
The man was.3 away from perfection. How can you possibly question that report card???
😉
I dunno, man. I’m thinkin our troubles are over. Finally. The Rams are definitely playoff bound now.
Unfortunately, now = next year.
<Sigh>
NERamParticipantIf more ‘power’ means better run blocking and opening bigger holes for Gurley, then I guess I could see where that might be a good thing.
IE less zone.
Power blocking, for one thing, plays to GR’s strengths.
Given some of the issues that seem to have plagued GR up until this point, that’s a double win.
Boost GRs confidence level (if there is an issue there), and get Gurley past the LOS and into the secondary.
NERamParticipantSnead said Boras wanted to use more ‘power’
in the running game.w
vIf more ‘power’ means better run blocking and opening bigger holes for Gurley, then I guess I could see where that might be a good thing.
I like this new way of thinking. Vive Boras.
