ParticipantThey waived him to make room for Barron if memory serves. It’s a weird that the Rams are trading for a guy they released, but when you look at the whole picture including the Rams current status at QB it’s not as ridiculous at Rotopat suggests. Of course, my view is a tad biased.

ParticipantI’m very pleased with his news. Jack-of-all-trades type of TE.

ParticipantLike many here I am a Bradford fan and see him as a QB capable of taking a team to the playoffs. His redzone play has been solid, he’s not prone to turnovers and he’s got a great arm. If he stays healthy he will be a good player wherever he ends up. Having said that, I am ambivalent about this trade. Foles has shown that he can play well in the NFL too. He played wounded last year, the guy is tough.

Not many Rams fans agree, but I see Trae Waynes as a worthy pick at 10 & meeting a need for the Rams. Your thoughts?
@nwagoner: As I’ve mentioned in this space before, cornerback is more of a need than some believe, but it’s not a pressing one. It’s one that will come into focus after next season, though. Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson are free agents after the 2015 season. The Rams have high hopes for E.J. Gaines to be one of their starters long-term, which would allow Lamarcus Joyner to slide into the nickel. The question becomes who is the other outside cornerback. My sense is that Jenkins is more likely to stick around long term than Johnson, but that remains to be seen. Trae Waynes would be a great fit from a skills standpoint, and again, I don’t think we can rule out anything in terms of the Rams’ approach to the draft. They aren’t afraid to do things that go against conventional wisdom. If all things are equal, they need to spend that pick on offense, but if things break a certain way and there is no obvious offensive player or trade-down option there, perhaps Waynes is one to watch.I like Waymes a lot and would have no problem with the Rams taking him at ten. I felt that way before he ran his blazing 40 at the Combine. For having such a solid front seven the Rams secondary gave up too many big plays las year.

ParticipantI’ve seen some internet whining regarding the potential re-signing of Hill. I’ve no idea what available options might be better. I do think that the Rams could do much worse than Hill as far as veteran back ups go.

ParticipantIt’s ok. It’s the FO’s new strategy. The Rams will wait for him to agree to terms with another team, and then the that team will get cold feet and make up an excuse about Barksdale’s health and back out of the deal. Barksdale will then return to the Rams. That’s how these things always go.
canadaram
ParticipantCan’t really argue with his main point, but given the success of spread offenses in the NCAA I doubt this problem will go away anytime soon.

ParticipantBOOOOOOO!!!!
While watching the mud bowl as a young lad, t’was the horns that drew me in to this labyrinth filled misery of Rams fandom.
canadaram
ParticipantI didn’t think the super bowl play was exactly like the SD game either. Still, it totally took me back to that moment in San Diego. Or to that moment in when I watched it in my mancave.

ParticipantI like the Van Pelt bloodlines. Intelligence combined with a ruthless desire for success, even if it means humiliating a few people along the way.

ParticipantMy first thought was that he’s freeing himself up to work for his father again.
canadaram
ParticipantI haven’t watched him lots, but in the Cotton Bowl he had a lot of wide open receivers to throw to in the first 3 quarters. He did a good job hitting those guys in stride. He won’t see guys running that free, that often in the NFL.
December 30, 2014 at 10:14 am in reply to: according to you what are the best & worst games of 2014 #15002canadaram
ParticipantBest: Denver, Oakland, Washington
Worst: Minnesota, San Francisico on MNF, first Arizona loss.

ParticipantJenkins makes me hold my breath unlike any other player. I wonder how coaches feel about him.
canadaram
ParticipantAs a Rams fan, I’d lov to see him out of the division. As a fan of all things Big Ten, I’d love to see him in Michigan.
canadaram
ParticipantJJ reminds me a bit of GW. There’s
something flashy and bold about him
but there’s also this…’unsoundness’
to his game. Can you win a Ring
with a guy like that? Can you count on
him through a playoff gauntlet? I dunno.Anyway, apparently he’s an alternate
for the ProBowl. So, go figure.w
vI’m not sure that I remember a Rams player who has provided me with such a roller coaster of emotions. Capable of a pick six one moment, and then giving up an 80 yard TD The next. Even when he’s not making INTs he can be pretty sticky in coverage, then he gets caught looking into the backfield, or bites on a double move. Frustrating. I wonder what kind of Patriot he’d be.
canadaram
ParticipantI’ve never seen a team
blow so many assignments that
resulted in game-breakers. I dunno.
Maybe it just ‘seems’ like they
blow a lot of assignments.w
vWell, it sure seems like Jenkins fits that description. He’s been blowing assignments since year one. This is his 3rd coordinator, and he’s still blowing assignments.

Participantwith the defense i think the key is that there are a bunch of young core players who have yet to reach their full potential and probably will get there within two years.
i think we’ve yet to see the best from quinn, donald, brockers, ogletree, mcdonald, gaines, joyner…
although the downside is that none of these players continue to progress. so far they’ve just been inconsistent.
but if this was a defense full of older veteran types, i’d be less optimistic.
Agree with all of this.
canadaram
ParticipantSeems pretty clear that Beckham has his hand on his face mask. Also pretty clear that Beckham kicked Ogletree as well. A couple of Giants jumped Ogletree and then all hell breaks loose. Lots of blame to go around. It’s been interesting to read the various reactions to this incident.
canadaram
ParticipantBTW, stopping a run away brawl is pretty difficult for one or two guys to do. From what I’ve seen of the video neither Long nor Laurinaitis escalated the brawl. It looked like both were in the middle trying to hold back some people. Not sure what other people are seeing, or expected of them.
canadaram
ParticipantSan Diego was effective in running at Donald as well. Draw plays seem to be an effective tool to deal with him.

Oh well. His first real playing time in over a month, coming right after the injury to Gaines. Rookie CBs and rookie QBs make the most costly types of errors.

ParticipantIn a ten point game, the Giants scored 10 points off of turnovers, and it could’ve been more if they didn’t take a knee after the last shotgun snap from Wells. Perhaps someone can point to evidence that suggests otherwise, but Benny is usually quite reliable with his ball control and has been quite solid as a KR this season. To me in Benny’s case it’s just one of those rare things that happens. Austin just screwed up letting the ball bounce off of his hands and into the hands of Wynn. Both of those plays were big in the outcome of the game. Me? I don’t see that as a coaching thing. Others porbably do, I guess.
The penalties and chippy stuff are mostly young players acting up. The coaches have got to do a better job reigning them in. Personally, I think that stuff dissipates as guys like McDonald and Ogletree get older.
Anyway, a disappointing loss for sure. The coverage breakdowns are mind numbing. There’s no way McDonald should’ve been left alone on Beckham on his first TD. I don’t know who screwed up on the second Beckham TD, Joyner or Johnson, but it looked like Joyner to me. A young secondary always has me holding my breath. Mistakes there are so costly, and young guys are good for a couple a game.
December 21, 2014 at 9:49 am in reply to: What's your "bet"? (feeling) (analysis)–Rams beat Giants? #14345canadaram
ParticipantNo idea really.
However, I expect JPP to be a problem for both Robinson and Barksdale, depending where the Giants line him up. Similarly, Hankins is good enough to cause some problems for the Rams shaky Wells/Joseph combo.
The Giants offense has actually looked pretty good lately, even if it has mostly been Eli-to-Beckham. I hope the Rams do a better job against the run his week than they did vs Arizona, cuz if the Giants get the run game going Beckham will produce some big plays as a result of Rams having to respect the run.
Anyway, I’m not confident that the Rams win this game, but I never am confident about the Rams winning.

ParticipantThat’s kinda cool. Had it come to fruition I know that I’d be feasting on Whatchamacallit chocolate bars and staying home to watch football on the the last Thursday of every November. Two things that make me jealous of every citizen of the U.S.

ParticipantFoles is China doll too, isn’t he hurt?
All QBs get hurt, look at Arizona, down to #3, their biggest success was based on Palmer and Warner who also had a histories of injury.
Bottom line, most QB’s get hurt …… while very very few rookies succeed.
Keep Bradford…. he is your best choice at this point.
For every Andrew Luck picked, there’s 10 Joey Harringtons or Gio Carmazzis.
QBs picks since 2000.
SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL TEAM
That is a depressing list. Some occasional gems, but overall pretty sad.

Participant(Bumrap —
quoting Arians – no link )“Everybody wanted to talk all that stuff about how great their defense is. I think they saw a good defense tonight, it was in red and white,” Arians said before talking about his 143 rushing yards. “We blocked them. I think they had been reading their press clippings way too much.”
Arizona’s D is good, no doubt. They’ve proven that for a few seasons now. Solving the mystery of the Wells, Joseph and Hill trinity isn’t exactly a revelation, however.
canadaram
ParticipantOn some runs I thought Arizona did a good job using Donald’s aggressive play against him. Good patience and then running where AD used to be.
No player frustrates me more than Jenkins right now.
I agree with zn, Arizona is a bad match up for this team.
canadaram
ParticipantI think the Rams defense can expect to see a steady diet of screen passes and intermediate passes over the middle. I’m not confident that the defense has figured out how to stop that stuff consistently vs strong skilled players. That said Drew Stanton hasn’t dominated on the road, so who knows?
