Ugly for sure but those two or three bust outs a game are certainly entertaining and ultimately deadly.

The Gurley run was eerily reminiscent of AD’s 70+ plus run a couple of years ago ago at home. Almost like an entire defensive strategy breakdown in which once the first wall was passed a single safety was unfairly left to watch him hit the roadrunner dust right by him.

Of course Niner fans saying “we held him to 19-61 otherwise” miss the point. You get a guy like this in a run based offense and you have the typical 3-4 yd, then wait for the big one. Eventually, a single mistake brings about the death strike.

the Philly/Bradford side of the trade story

    Wanna know the truth?

I don’t care. Sam is not a Ram any more. I really don’t care what happens to him on a team I have never cared about 1 way or another. It didn’t work out here. That’s sad looking back. I won’t pay much attention looking forward.

I’m actually fairly ruthless about players who go elsewhere. I just don’t care any more. Some fans continue to follow the player. I never have.

I’m particularly interested in a lot of players who are not Rams for one reason or another. I’m very interest in Sam Bradford. I was not one who wanted to draft him #1 – never questioned arm but questioned ability to be decisive and accurate throwing in small windows – but have become more intrigued as his injury ridden career has gone on. Will be watching him closely in the Kelly system and hoping for an injury free year.

    Happy Birthday, ZN!

(BTW – love that cake Zooey got for ya. It follows my thinking that hash marks should be eliminated entirely from the NFL grid. It’s a man’s league; who needs these silly perpendicular lines? Give me none! I want a true weak-side and strong-side. 45….etc.)

Have ya had enough snow yet?

Hill is pretty decent at QB. Problem is he’s backed up Stafford and everyone forgot his effectiveness at SF (once playing under another defensive HC – Singletary).

I’m very comfortable beginning with SB and Hill at back-up. Outside of Winston I see no real good QB next year and don’t think anyone FA-wise is better than the two we have next year. Hill is the perfect back-up for a fragile QB like SB, imo.

No way Seattle 9-7. Again, they are in the groove as the best team in the NFC. Rams could match up in Seattle but would be awfully surprise considering Wilson vs Hill.

    …. It wasnt
the fact they beat bad teams
that was salient — it was the “way”
    they beat them.

This team has beaten two awful teams
in an intriguing way. (with a backup QB)

I’ll add that no teams with professional NFL player are “awful” in themselves. Look, Washington beat the Cowboys in Dallas and Oakland beat the Niners today.

Just winning, period, is tough in this league. The worst NFL team roster is filled with the best 100 football players of any college draft. To go 76-0 over two games is almost unheard of.

If this tells us anything it’s that it’s not the players but the ownership.

The SF (Niner) Bay Area has been in meltdown mode for weeks. Now this. It should be interesting around here the next few days.

I remember the Cardinals getting 3 shutouts in a row in 1970. But these seem more dominating on the defensive, opposition weakness withstanding.

Bobby Douglas never figured it out, or was never allowed to.

Yeah, he was a safety throughout his career. As a Mizzou guy he drove me crazy running out at QB.

Rivers was masterful in that game. He got it out quickly in 3-step drops and looked ten times better than the slower Manning the previous week. He’s just an underrated QB, imo.

I really respect those great sideline catches. This catch by Maclin a few years ago was my favorite because of the concentration required not only to catch and hold on but to also keep his feet inbounds.

I can’t believe the St.Louis PD PR machine chose to wade in this thing as raw and sensitive things are in that area right now. Who the hell are they to try to muzzle the free expressions of five black players who have some real feelings about this issue? Are they serious? Let’s say the African American players who’d dared to make a public display are “disciplined” as the police (who in addition to keeping the peace suddenly seem to think they can command how businesses outside themselves conduct themselves in terms of free expression) request. Then what? That will just calm things down?

    Unbelievable.

5th or 6th for RGIII. How deliciously ironic. So we end up getting Brockers, Jenkins, Ogletree, Bailey, Stacy, Robinson, and RGIII for a 5th or 6th pick?

Without a 1st String QB there is no real chance, esp. in the West. So I guess I’m pissed off at that damn anterior cruciate ligament screwed up more than anyone.

The way the second half went I was shocked the Rams were still in this to the last minute.

Two decent defenses but look….Hill vs Rivers? Rivers is incredible. Can’t believe GW ran all those blitzes. Rivers ain’t Manning at this point in his career…he loves the challenge and blitz and the potential hit with weird timing. I didn’t get some of those D calls.

Hill stock down. I get that and all. But Hill is….Hill. He’s a back up just like Davis but with more experience for a reason. Who was he supposed to be? He was what he was and I appreciate the fact that Hill kept the Rams in the game. If it was Davis I seriously doubt it would have gotten that far, even close.

He got laid out. I understand the feeling. Living out here I still remember the Stockley/Tatum like yesterday. The league has become much softer since then for a reason. And so it’s not the same. I liked the hit but was also very concerned.

At 3 and 6, in last place
    there are 7 games left.

    With an error-prone-QB,
    and no No.1 WR, and a non-gelled
    reshuffled OLine, and a Defense
    that specializes in bonehead-mistakes,
how many wins do you see?

I’d be surprised if they beat
Denver or the Seahawks in Seattle.

They are such a weird team, i could
see them beating SD and Arizona and
    losing to Oakland and Wash.

    They could do anything. Lose
them all, win them all — they
    are a spectacle.

One thing i know is they will
    look promising in their losses
    and goofy in their wins.

    ————————
    Denver
    At SD
    Oakland
    At Wash
    Ariz

    At Seattle

    So
    Oakland
    At Wash
    Ariz
    NYG

We win those and get to 8-8. In this division without the QB, WR, DE, LT that’s quite the accomplishment. The inconsistency is still very bothersome and Fisher is not that bad of a coach and Snead is a just ok GM imo but they are competent..in the NFC south they might be in first despite it all.

Hill wasn’t bad in SF – he competed with A. Smith and a named guy O’Sullivan (who Martz clearly loved at one point and put ahead of both to start 2007. Singletary got tired of the Martz/O’Sullivan affair and started Hill. He wasn’t flashy but I though he could read the field and manage that team pretty well.

His arm seems a bit better than I remember. I kind of wish they would’ve start him a couple weeks earlier but I understand the whole riding the wave thing with Davis.

    Laram – on Ogletree

but what AO did today goes beyond a “bad game” to me.

Alec Ogletree was a perfect example of a “coach killer” in today’s game.

I will disregard the missed tackles for this illustration, those happen far to frequently in the NFL.

But the misplays he had on Russell Wilson were totally inexcusable.

The Rams had AO spying Wilson in this game and Wilson ended up getting his career high in rush yards.

When you have contain, you learn in Pee Wee ball that you don’t give up the outside, you turn everything inside to your pursuit.

WTH was AO dipping inside and giving up the corner???

First its poor technique, and if given the choice, what do you think a qb is going to choose, inside or outside??

Russell Wilson is smart, he knows the sidelines is his friend, TURN HIM INSIDE!!! banghead

Ogletree made three off the charts physical/mental errors.

Missed a tackle on Baldwin on the first possession which cost his team 3 pts. and twice lost contain on Russell Wilson leading to huge gains.

Yup, very bad plays by Ogletree. He’s been horrible much of this year.

True but Wilson has been doing that against just about everyone in every close game they were behind since mid-2012. That ain’t specific to the Rams. I was expecting it. But I didn’t think the Rams would come out ahead in the end. That was special.

Makes total sense. It’s not like we are deciding between Montana and Young here. These are two lifetime backups. Davis has the hot hand, has proven himself, and shows those intangibles you don’t get through practice alone. No one really sees the Rams winning this division without SB now anyway. Lets run with the good feelings as long as we can.

They will get better as the year goes on. The run D has improved each game. Can’t see pass rush being so weak for much longer.

    Anyone? Buehler?

I have no words for the disgusting, gutless, ill disciplined, rabble that blew a 21 point lead and a 30+ point performance by the offense.

I am, however, wondering what people will muster in defense of this bunch.

Call them what they are, guys. Utter losers.

And, yes, a lot of it is coaching.

Disappointed so far, will but not much into “disgusting”, “gutless” or “utter losers”. I rarely agree with that at this level and I don’t see it with this team. I don’t consider most play at the NFL level to be either horrible or wonderful. It’s often a matter of a few plays over time on a consistent basis based on talent, experience, coaching and playing intelligence.

With the Rams I’m getting concerned about playing intelligence with all the penalties (albeit some horrible calls along with it). I also don’t believe they have an elite coaching staff – it’s more of a throwback coaching staff, imo. But I see no Chip Kelly on the immediate horizon and this is still much better than elevating an OC or DC so I’m okay with that.

Pass rushing is easily biggest disappointment. The run D is looking better (as I expected) but still getting gashed a couple of big plays.

And I think they will continue to get better. I’m a glass full guy by nature so whatever.
