Dak Prescott arrested for DUI in Starkville
Michael Bonner and Sarah Fowler, The Clarion-Ledger 9:44 p.m. CST March 12, 2016
NFL: CombineSTARKVILLE — Former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with driving under the influence, Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols told The Clarion-Ledger.
The arrest occurred near the Cotton District in Starkville between 1-1:30 a.m. Police pulled over Prescott in a white 2016 Cadillac Escalade. No further details were immediately available.
Prescott’s representation, Pro Sports Management, refused comment on the situation when asked multiple times Saturday.
Prescott spent Saturday morning hosting a camp that more than 200 children attended at Starkville High School. He was in Starkville for the school’s pro day on Thursday, throwing in front of scouts from 30 of the 32 NFL teams. He met with all of them at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, and the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are all believed to have interest in Prescott. He was expected to visit with the Buffalo Bill next week.
The arrest comes about two months from the NFL draft at the end of April. The quarterback is projected as a second- or third-round pick after winning the Senior Bowl MVP and working out at the NFL combine last month.
It’s unclear at this point how much this arrest will affect Prescott’s NFL draft stock, though certainly one of his positive traits for the image-conscious NFL was his image as a good character athlete.
Never good. Prescott has been climbing up my board lately. https://t.co/zORbOx1nPi

Prescott holds every passing record at Mississippi State and graduated as one of the program’s most beloved all-time players. He guided the team to a No. 1 ranking in 2014 and followed it up with a nine-win season in 2015. It was the first time in program history that MSU won back-to-back nine-win seasons.March 12, 2016 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Zach Miller scheduled to visit the Rams…but (3/14) re-signs with Chicago #40523
AgamemnonParticipantTight end Zach Miller scheduled to visit Rams
10:36 PM ETJeff DickersonESPN Staff Writer
Bears free-agent tight end Zach Miller is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Rams, per a league source.
Miller caught five passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns in a memorable performance against the Rams last November in the Edward Jones Dome.
Miller has familiarity with several members of the Rams’ coaching staff. Los Angeles hired former Bears wide receivers coach Mike Groh to be its passing game coordinator/receivers coach, while Rams offensive coordinator Rob Boras, used to coach tight ends in Jacksonville.
Prior to his arrival in Chicago, Miller saw game action with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2009 to 2011.
Healthy for virtually the first time since 2010, Miller emerged as a key playmaker on offense last year with 34 receptions for 439 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (14 starts).
All five of Miller’s touchdowns occurred in the final eight games he played. His 87-yard touchdown reception in Game 9 at St. Louis is the second-longest reception ever by a Bears tight end and tied for the seventh-longest overall in franchise history.
Miller also made one of the top plays of the season when he hauled in a game-winning, 25-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter at San Diego.
The Bears find themselves thin at tight end, with the club reportedly attempting to trade starter Martellus Bennett, who boycotted the entire voluntary portion of last year’s offseason program over a contract dispute. Chicago hosted veteran free agent Jermaine Gresham on a visit to Halas Hall earlier in the week, but Gresham left without signing a contract.

Why dont they want to sell as many tickets as they can?

There is probably a number, less than 90k that maximizes profit. This does ticket price not number of tickets, but they can both be variables in maximizing profit. Ask Demoff. 😉Or, can they make more money by selling more tickets or by raising the ticket price?

AgamemnonParticipantI dunno. I wasn’t impressed by Sims last year. Once he entered the regular rotation to replace Quinn, IMO he got exposed. He can make plays, it seems to me, when he is a rotational guy who can play with some energy because he doesn’t have to pace himself. Once he was out there for multiple snaps, he was lacking. JF even referred to him as “improving”…which is a bad sign for a 5 year vet (which he was last year). 1.5 sacks in 9 starts? I think if he had that much to offer, he would have gotten snapped up in free agency.
He might just be insurance, in case somebody gets hurt. His contract might only be for minimum.

Player Overview
A Florida native, Brissett sat out the 2013 season as a transfer from Gainesville and earned the starting job in ’14, opening eyes with his performance against Florida State as N.C. State almost pulled the upset. He finished the 2014 season with 26 total touchdowns (23 passing, three rushing), 2,606 passing yards and only five interceptions.Brissett set career-bests in 2015 with 237 completions and 2,662 passing yards, earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors and a spot on the Senior Bowl roster.
Strengths Weaknesses
STRENGTHS: Built for the NFL with a filled-out frame. Has some Houdini to him with his mobility and physicality to brush off contact and keep plays alive. Natural body power in short-yardage situations (902 career rushing yards). Functional movement in the pocket and squares to his target to deliver on the run.Strong arm to spin spirals and throw the entire route tree. Understands touch, controlling his ball speed to add juice or use trajectory. Experienced making NFL-style decisions, anticipating windows and reading different coverages. Vision to see the entire field as a passer and scrambler, knowing where the sticks are. Tough, durable and bounces back after physical collisions, standing tall in the pocket and finishing as a runner. Takes care of the ball with a career 46-to-15 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Senior captain with natural leadership qualities – sent his offensive teammates hand-written notes before every game and baked desserts for his offensive line. What other QB does that? 😉 Self-motivated with insatiable work ethic.
WEAKNESSES: Not a confident downfield thrower with inconsistent deep accuracy – appears gun shy and often relies on check downs. Too comfortable throwing on the run or delivering with his momentum going backwards. Shaky platform and needs to set his base when given the time. Inconsistent footwork leads to inaccurate ball placement (59.5% career completion percentage). Low career interception numbers because he is too careful, not consistently pushing the ball downfield or fitting throws into tight windows.
Not an explosive athlete and tends to be indecisive on non-designed runs. Doesn’t understand how to use his eyes, leading defenders with late throws. Pressure disrupts his tempo and late to climb the pocket.
IN OUR VIEW: Brissett is well-built with physical traits for the next level with his size, mobility and arm talent. He can make NFL throws, but is also slow to read and showed gun shy tendencies as a downfield thrower – was the king of dink and dunk and check downs inflated his completion percentage.
Brissett should improve with NFL coaching and has the intangibles and enough talent to carve out a back-up role, but tough to see him becoming a starter down the road due to his inconsistencies as a downfield passer.

Ranking top available quarterbacks via draft, free agency, tradeBy Gil Brandt
NFL Media senior analyst
Published: March 11, 2016 at 04:03 p.m.
Updated: March 11, 2016 at 05:59 p.m.So you say you need a quarterback? Welcome to the club.
By my count, there were 11 teams that entered the offseason with a need at the quarterback position, each landing in one of four categories: 1) Desperation mode, 2) in need of an upgrade, 3) protection in case of defection, or 4) looking toward the future. A month after the end of Super Bowl 50 and three days into free agency, that number has decreased by only one.
Houston shored up its biggest need by signing Brock Osweiler on Wednesday, leaving 10 teams with a lot of work to do before the season kicks off in six months.
There are two distinct camps for QB-needy teams: Those that are championship-caliber and need a capable veteran (Broncos) and everyone else. The latter group consists of rebuilding teams like the Browns and 49ers, re-tooling teams like the Bears and Eagles, and clubs like the Saints taking a peek beyond 2016.
Don’t be fooled by the Broncos’ acquisition of Mark Sanchez on Friday. If there was any question about whether he’s a starter or backup, check out the compensation in that deal. This trade changes practically nothing for Denver.
With no Andrew Luck in this year’s draft and no proven starter on the open market or seemingly available in trade, this isn’t a great year to be in need of a quarterback, but there are options. Here is a ranking of how I see the top quarterbacks available via the draft, free agency and trade, based solely on talent level:
1. Carson Wentz and 1a. Jared Goff (draft)
Before free agency, I would have had Osweiler in the top spot. But it now belongs to the the top two quarterbacks in the draft, and there’s very little separation, in my mind, between the two. Similar to how I saw Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota last year, Goff is the prospect who can help a team immediately, but I believe Wentz has the higher long-range upside. If you’re the Broncos, you have no interest in these two quarterbacks, not that they have a shot at drafting either of them from slot No. 31. But if you’re the Browns (No. 2) or 49ers (No. 7) or Eagles (No. 8), taking one of these quarterbacks makes a lot of sense. I’m not sure if he’s going to still be there at No. 11, but I think a Bears-Wentz marriage is almost perfect. He could sit behind Jay Cutler, and be ready in a year or two to take over in Chicago.
3. Ryan Fitzpatrick (free agency)Fitzpatrick, an unrestricted free agent, has never gotten the respect he deserves. Almost every place he’s gone, he’s added a spark and elevated the offense. Problem is, he’s never gotten a shot with a title-contending club. If I were the Broncos, this is where my attention would be right now, and not on offering compensation for a player like Colin Kaepernick. Fitzpatrick has a good arm and athleticism. I understand the concerns with him, but I also know he’s had success in this league, and what he did with the Jets last year, securing must-win games down the stretch with his play, is nothing short of remarkable. I think if Denver signed him, he could do the same thing Peyton Manning did last season. He might be the only quarterback available whom I’d trust with a Super Bowl-ready team like the Broncos.
4. Robert Griffin III (free agency)The caveat with RGIII is that you have to be sure the medicals check out, and if they do, he’s a guy young enough for a rebuilding team and experienced enough for a playoff-hopeful team. He has a ton of talent that just needs to be harnassed. I’ve known him personally since his days at Baylor, and I’ve read all the criticism from his days in Washington. That’s not the guy I know. One thing I do know is that two very accomplished coaches and men I admire greatly — Art Briles and Mike Shanahan — were able to get the most out of Griffin and enjoy success with him under center. If you want to call this potential signing a gamble, I think it could pay off big for some team.
5. Colin Kaepernick (trade)
Speaking of gambles, I think trading for Kaepernick is a big one. At least with RGIII, you wouldn’t have to give up compensation or be saddled with a sizable contract. While I think Fitzpatrick would be a better fit in Denver, I see why John Elway is kicking the tires here. Under Gary Kubiak, Kaepernick wouldn’t be asked to pass as much, and with his accuracy issues, that’s a good thing. My biggest concern with him is his work ethic. Would he be willing to put in the work required by a disciplined organization like the Broncos? I would worry about him a little going to a team like the Browns, but I could see them trading for him and then taking a quarterback like Wentz with the No. 2 pick.
6. Paxton Lynch (draft)Lynch is the consensus third-best quarterback in the draft, but he’s not in the same category as Wentz and Goff. He has good size, a strong arm and a lot of tools, but he’s inconsistent, lacks experience and will need some time to adjust to the pro game. He could be around at the end of the first round for the Broncos, who could groom him behind whatever veteran they bring in to be their starter.
7. Connor Cook (draft)I think the thing that separates Cook from Lynch is arm strength and the type of offense best suited for each. While Lynch can play in any type of offense, Cook will be limited to a West Coast-style scheme. He reminds me a lot of Teddy Bridgewater this way. He’ll benefit from going to a team that plays most of its games inside a dome, away from weather.
8. Johnny Manziel (free agency)Let me get this out of the way: I overrated Manziel coming out of Texas A&M, not as a player but as a person. I didn’t factor in his work habits and I should have. If you could ever find a way for him to rid his off-field demons, Manziel could help a team. He throws well enough to find success in this league, and he moves around well enough to make up for his size. I think a guy like Adam Gase, the new head coach in Miami, could handle him.

AgamemnonParticipantReport: Browns to cut Manziel on Friday
Posted by Mike Florio on March 11, 2016, 9:34 AM ESTReport: Browns to cut Manziel on Friday
If 49ers coach Chip Kelly wants quarterback Johnny Manziel, Kelly apparently won’t have to trade for him.
Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns are expected to cut Manziel by the close of business on Friday.
The Browns had created the impression that they would have cut Manziel in late January after his latest brush with the law, if they had the cap space to do it. But they didn’t cut him when the new league year began, which created the impression that they were hoping to trade him or waiting for an opportunity to void his remaining $2.1 million in guaranteed money.
If it’s the former, it means they’ve possibly called every other team and learned that no one will give up anything of value to get him. The next question is whether anyone will touch him until his legal situation in Texas is resolved (he’s facing possibly domestic violence charges) and/or until he addresses lifestyle choices that have resulted in his agent firing him and his own father expressing concern for Manziel’s life.
Why not? No risk, we can cut him in a minute without any cost. I don’t want Manziel to be our starter, but this is a free roll. imo

AgamemnonParticipantOne clear destination emerging for RG3
Charles Robinson By Charles Robinson
Yahoo Sportshttp://sports.yahoo.com/news/one-clear-nfl-destination-emerging-for-rg3-054815437.html
Robert Griffin III’s future in the NFL has been an offseason journey defined by someone else. The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams haven’t shown serious interest. The Houston Texans chose Brock Osweiler. The New York Jets have been focused on Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Denver Broncos have made Colin Kaepernick a priority. All of this has left Griffin where he is now – spending his days working out in Texas, waiting for a phone call and a chance to compete.
Maybe for the first time this offseason, a real opportunity is coming into focus. But the team that could provide it – the San Francisco 49ers – must first part ways with Kaepernick. And that has left Griffin in an already familiar offseason holding pattern, surrounded by a swirl of speculation.
With that in mind, here is what is real, according to multiple league sources:
• After giving Case Keenum a first-round tender, the Los Angeles Rams are sitting tight with their current group of quarterbacks. Despite reports, they have not made a serious overture this week toward Griffin.
• The Jets have been focused on letting the Fitzpatrick situation play out, confident his market will dry up and temper his salary demands. Despite some reports, they have not made a serious run at Griffin.
• A few teams that had potential for attractive backup slots (the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles) went elsewhere with their plans.
• The Broncos have made Kaepernick their top priority. And even if Kaepernick doesn’t land in Denver, the prospect of Griffin going there would be dicey. Why? Head coach Gary Kubiak has a close relationship with Mike Shanahan, Griffin’s former coach. Shanahan has been highly critical of his former quarterback at various times. There’s little doubt Kubiak would lean on Shanahan’s scouting report before any recruitment took place.
None of this is to say that circumstances can’t change with these teams. But the road that’s currently illuminated for Griffin is going in one direction and that path leads to the 49ers and Chip Kelly. Make no mistake, Kelly is a huge factor in where the pursuit goes. The reality is that Griffin suits Kelly’s offensive scheme better than any quarterback he has had in the NFL. And that alone makes Griffin a viable and attractive option. Especially considering that Griffin is likely to seek only a short-term “show-me” deal, which is expected to be relatively cheap and incentive-laden.
Lest anyone forget, Kelly is very familiar with Griffin. He recruited him at Oregon with the intent of building an offense around him. And he continued to watch his growth and struggles from within the NFC East. That knowledge is key because it removes part of the free-agent equation of having to do the all-important work on scheme fit. Kelly knows Griffin can fit and run his offense. The question is whether he still has the ability to rebound and grow exponentially after his fast start and subsequent flameout in Washington.
Kelly isn’t going to make the same mistakes at quarterback that he made with Sam Bradford in Philadelphia. If he’s going to fail this time around, he’s going to do it with a stable of quarterbacks who have the skills to run his system correctly. Kelly believes Kaepernick can do that, but he’s not going to force a player to remain who doesn’t want to be part of the turnaround.
With Griffin, he doesn’t have to. Even in the worst-case scenario, the 49ers could bring Griffin in and draft a quarterback to groom. If Griffin isn’t the answer, he can play the role of a veteran bridge quarterback while showcasing himself for another team. Of course, that’s not what Griffin prefers. He wants a chance to be a starter in a system that suits his style, and with a coach who has confidence in his ability to run the offense. In a few days, a Kaepernick-less San Francisco could present opportunity. Griffin has sat and watched other quarterbacks receive theirs, while waiting patiently for his own. Out of the swirl of speculation, this is a fit that makes sense – for both sides.
Maybe nobody takes a QB. Cleveland gets Kaepernick. SF gets RG3. Wentz and Goff drop.
